    Re: NEW Soundtrack 9/20

    Bob's posted a new Soundtrack.

His own story of Courage and Patience and Grit, of sorts; the first time they played in Germany and a song by the Verve.

An inspiring and very funny tale.

    Re: NEW Soundtrack 9/20

They say that the sense of smell is the strongest sense you have, the most likely to bring back the memories but I think hearing, when it's combined with music is much more potent. Hear the snippet of a song and you can be overcome by the flood it brings back, often painful ones. Bob's lucky that in the end, though it forces him to recall a group of rather nasty memories, it also serves to remind him that if they got through that they can get through anything. (At times like these, I wish there were some sort of a movie camera playing continously in our lives so that we can play back such moment and laugh histerically. Can you just picture them flying down German roads?)

I'm trying to get through "Reels, Rocks, & Roseries" by Marjorie Doyle (she rambles on just a touch), Bob may very well already have read it, and she talks of the memories that a few simple notes can bring back, even if it's just a long forgotten music box.

Can I come out of my corner yet? No? Well, tough, cause I gotta say this - Bob's writing gets more brilliant with every column. I love how lately, he is getting into the old stories; I love his use of details and his sense of atmosphere. If the band ever gets any off-time, I wish very, very much that he'd consider writing a book of some sort. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

    Bob is the man.

That was the greatest soundtrack yet.  I love getting to hear stories about the band, especially the early days.  Thank heavens this awful trip didn't stop them!

That's happened to me often, a song becoming inextricably interwined with a particular time/event/feeling.  And always when I hear those songs I'm instantly back at that time.  I can feel how I felt then, what things looked like, everything.

Fran I read that book last year and loved it. I guess it helps if you know some of the places ahe's talking about. Get thee to NFLD!

It's not really that, I'm not that far into it. I love her stories of the music that reminds her of the neighbour she actually never met or of the time she spent in Spain. I just find she takes a little longer than necessary to get to the point. I guess it's just not light reading if you have a headache. I do like it, it's just going to take me longer than normal to get through it.

    New Soundtrack 10/30

New soundtrack up.  He's coming at it from a different direction this time.  Smile I can't help but giggle at imagining a teenage Bob writing tormented poems in highschool. (Sorry Bob!  It's just that I can remember doing that! *LOL*)

I LOVE Jethro Tull!  I think it is so cool that Bob wrote about something that was so important to me in High School....besides writing really bad poetry!Angel

Soundtrack 12/22: Learning How To Do This

"But mostly, we learned how to do this. We learned how to stand on a stage and be unafraid, no matter who was in front of you. We learned how to keep going, even if everything broke, we forgot all the words, or we suddenly acquired a world-class case of hiccups. We learned how to play when we were exhausted, enraged, loaded, when we could not hear a thing, when there was no room, when all the strings were gone, when we had no monitors, when someone was leaning on you, shouting the wrong words in your ear, or when you were trying not to spew after an unwisely accepted triple shot of Black Sambuca."

I am curious to see where the next album, the next phase takes them as a band and as musicians...and where that will take all of us!

    New Soundtrack Jan 23

Another Soundtrack by Bob went up on Wednesday.

    Sad, Sadder, Saddest songs....

....and a particularly poignant paragraph that hit a little too close to home for me....

What do you think GBS's most SAD song is?

Helen it says Wednesday, but I checked Wednesday and Thursday, figuring we werfe due for one. I don't think it went up till Firday. mMaybe he posted it on Wednesday but for some reason it didn't appear then.

Hope they are thinking happier thoughts on board the cruise ship.

    Re: New Soundtrack Jan 23

    Anne,

I didn't see it till Friday, and thought I'd missed it on Wed and Thurs....I'd had such busy days that I never made it here!  I guess I saw it right on schedule then?  Written Wed, but posted Friday?  Sounds like a plausible explanation!

I heard Penelope on my way into school this a.m. and thought about them aboard the cruise - and hoped they were enjoying themselves - good times, good bands, good friends, and good music....how Sad can you get in those circumstances?

    Re: New Soundtrack Jan 23

Bob has a new soundtrack up (from 2-25-08).  All about a glimpse back into the past of the 1990's.  AHHHHHH!  Didn't see a notice here about it and it is always so tought to see, since he never makes in on the front page header (poor bob) and I never scroll down to see those posts at the bottom.

Everyone likes to have something to do, can you find the spelling errors in my post?

Would you believe another new Soundtrack dated March 7, 2008? Looking at St Patrick's Day "through a pint darkly."
