    Nfld in December?!?!

So yeah I need your input... I got my yearly vacation just scheduled since I started at a new place. Got time off in August but that I need to attend the Tonder Festival and I got 2 weeks off Dec 1 - 14...

Now crazy old me is thinking about traveling to Nfld then. What do you think? I'd have to rent a car... can somebody not used to much snow drive oder is it too tricky? Is there stuff to do? Etc.

I'd really love to hear your input.

     Cheers

    Re: Nfld in December?!?!

Well, I visited in late December the last two years and plan on doing it again this year -- even spent New Years there in 2007.  December 2006, we only had a few inches of snow on the ground, while 2007 -- 3 blizzards!  You just never know.  I find there to be a ton of events going on in December and there is always great music and food year-round.  We were able to get around in taxis even in the worst of weather in St John's but you'll just have to use your judgement once you get there about driving throughout the province.   My feeling, you're on vacation so you'll have a great time no matter, right?

Thanks for your input nova. Sounds if I should go despite the time of year but I've been convincing myself more and more to just travel there and then to see what I can make of it. Guess I'm just a bit scared to end up all by myself for two weeks...

Honestly, just make sure to pack your boots and earmuffs! It shouldn't snow too much, it usually doesn't snow much until January. Make sure to hit up George Street( be sure to wear sensible shoes if your drinking in icy weather) If your looking for a good place for breakfast go to the Bagel Cafe, it has awesome food. Don Cherry's and the Delta are nice places to go for dinner and what not. Make sure to walk along the harbour and have TONS of fun!

    Thanks for your great suggestions!!

My travel plans have changed a wee bit. Taking a trip out to Deer Lake as well and will be hitting on some of the communities on the way out there. Won't be driving though - leaving that to my friend for Nfld. Going to spend most of the time in St. John's though. Already have lot of things to do lined up. First concerts are being planned as well. :)

    Cheers
