Ok, I gotta be the fly in the ointment! I do LOVE this song since the first time I heard it and I do love the single. That being said,  I feel the live performances had much more raw emotion to it that doesn't come across on the single. It's great though and I keep singing the chorus over n over ! Can't wait to see the video! I wasn't a fan when they released all their previous cd's so this is my first time anticipating it. So psyched!

I feel that way about all live performances, whether it's GBS or any other band.  Live music just has a special kind of, like you said, raw emotion and energy, from both performers and audience, that just adds so much to the music.  That being said, I still think there's plenty of emotion in this version, it just has a different feel to it that I can't quite place yet.

I love both versions.  I guess right now I'm just so used to hearing the live version that that's what in my head as how it should sound.  I loved the song from the first time I heard it live, so that's the version I'm attached to.  That still hasn't stopped me from listening to this one over and over and over...I guess I'm going in circles now, lol!  I love them both.  I'm just excited for the new album!Big Smile

Now, if I can just get ANY radio station at all in MN to actually play the new single, that would be amazing.  I guess I should start email bombardment now, lol!

    But for just one night
Wouldn't it be great, if the band just never ended?

Broken Heart OMB! I LOVE IT! The live version has some advantages over the recorded but it is still AMAZING! the live has a lot of the 'raw emotion' but the recording, to me, seems to have a sort of 'uplifting/soaring feel' I love the way it feels to listen to their music, thats why i love GBS big smiles

I am loving this song very much right now.  I am wondering if the picture that comes up when you play the song on MySpace is going to be the new album cover.  Time will tell.  Big Smile

Ooooh.  Sneaky thinking.  Thrilling thought.  I wonder if I'll have a chance to hear the new album before the show in August.  I know Kevin will have it the second (and I'm not kidding - the very second) it becomes available, but I may have to wait until the show to buy myself one!

Gotta go.  Need to check MySpace.  And practice my finagling skills.

Re: New Single: "Walk On The Moon"

    LOVE it!

When I first heard it I was struck by how emotional and passionate it sounds. Maybe not to the same extent of the live version - but I imagine it's much easier to reach that level of emotion in front of thousands of screaming fans than it is in a studio singing a song over and over again.

Looking forward to hearing the rest.

Hmmm.  Got to join those who prefer the live version.  Not so much because of the difference in levels of passion, because I like Alan's delivery on the single, but the sound is a bit too mixed for me or something.  I'm not sure how I feel about the bells and the "ooos" in the background and all.  A bit too typical pop or something.  I don't know.  That said, I love the essence of the song, and I like Alan's delivery on the single here.  It still sounds like it has that passion to me.  And I love the lyrics on this.  But I do prefer the live version.

Re: New Single: "Walk On The Moon"

Wonderful song ... that's for sure. Love it since the first time I heard it, standing about 2 meters away from Alan.

But I'm with the live-version-preferers here - as I probably always prefer the live versions. Alan is doing a great job singing on the recording, but I could well do without the acoustic decorations around his voice. Still a great song, and, like probably everybody here, I'm desperately awaiting the new album ...

    Cheers ... Christina

Yeah, it's a lily gilded for sure.  All those layers!  It's still a great song, but it's kind of hidden under all the pop accessibility trappings.  Alan sounds like he's pushing really hard - it's a straight-on anthem now.  I kind of preferred it as a ballad, a story about being uncertain, the balance between the nervousness and the resolution.  It's a bit too much of a sure thing for me now, in two different ways.  But it's the first single for the album, and that's kind of the single's job, isn't it?  And it's still a superb song!  I just don't think the production does it justice.

You said it better than I could, Columbine.  I agree.  Smile

Re: New Single: "Walk On The Moon"

Haven't had the pleasure of hearing this live yet, so I can't compare.  I can say that I did find myself wiping my eyes when it was over.  (OK, so I'm sappy, so sue me)

I gotta say it made me smile that Chiara mentioned Disney.  I have always had a recruiting "anthem" for my direct sales business.  Until 5 minutes ago, it was the theme from Aladdin "A whole new world."  Guess what my new recruiting theme song is?  G'wan guess.  "This is my one small step, this is my walk on the moon!"  LOVE it.  Can't wait for June.  Can't wait to hear this live.  In, um, yanno, Halifax.

ETA:  Is Stockwell Day campaigning for anything these days?  This would be a perfect song for a polititian to use for his (or her) campaign theme without the bands permission!  lol!

WOTM is AMAZING!  The song is so powerful sounding.  Gets better and better with each listen.  The intro was unexpected but not disappointing.  Looking forward to hearing the song on the radio tomorrow and seeing it rocket up the charts.  LOVE it!

Hey all you GBS fans in the New York tri-state region - what radio station do you think we'll hear or can request the song?  I'm thinking maybe 101.9 FM..they're pretty new and they seem to be playing everything? How do I know where the song is being distributed ?

Re: New Single: "Walk On The Moon"

I'm thinking the best that we GBS fans in the area can hope for is 90.7 WFUV.  RXP is a major rock station and doesn't appear to take requests.

Re: New Single: "Walk On The Moon"

I didn't think I was ever going to be able to hear this song!  My cursed dial up only gave me the hicup version - bells - pause - bells - pause - silence..... that was as far as I could get...until, after a day of fighting with my husband, and push coming to shove...I left the house for the night, and am now happily in a room with wirless highspeed, and my trusty laptop....so the first thing I did was put on WOTM.

It is a great song.  I fell in love with it a year ago this week exactly - when I was back east for Spring Break.  I love watching Alan sing it; he feels his lyrics so deeply - live, this song is an amazing ballad.

I have been looking forward to hearing it all polished and produced for the album, but as much as I adore WOTM, I am not as in love with this version as I am with it performed live.

All that said, I love it no matter what!
