    Our Walks on the Moon.

Our big move from Nova Scotia was more than "one small step" it was a huge leap of faith.  Not a day goes by that I'm not reassured that we made the right decision, that we did the right thing.  Even when things are going wrong, I know this is where we're meant to be.

Here are the pictures I sent in for the video.  It was really hard to narrow it down to 5, and to try to tell the story just in pictures, I did my best.  Enjoy!

I love the ones of your kids playing in the waves!  It has this carefree child-like innocence about it that fits the song.

I know what you mean about trying to pick a picture that tells the story of the moment--very hard to do.

Re: Our Walks on the Moon.

Great pictures Sharn & Lisa! Really love the one of the kids playing in the waves Sharn... cute shot!

Lisa - the jasper shots are fantastic... do you live out that way? (I grew up in Edmonton... so was out camping in Banff & Jasper multiple times a year growing up)

Here's a couple of my pics that we sent in...

First Kiss (my daughter and nephew)... They were not quite 3 years old at my sisters wedding... since their dress and tux replicated the bride and groom, they were convinced for months that they got married too and would break into tears if you tried to tell them differently.

    First soccer trophy (my son)

Learning the guitar w/ daddy (my daughter and hubby).

When my daughter was little, she crawled up on the bed, opened the blinds and said "everywhere's the sun!"... Brian commented that that would be the perfect name for an album... so years later (after doing the band thing) he's recording his first folk album and naming it after that moment with our wee girl (who obviously isn't so wee anymore).

My daughter saw a World Vision show on TV and was so upset by the hungry children that when she saw the Christmas catalogue come in, she wanted to buy the chickens and goats for the children in Africa. So she helped baked cookies and fudge to sell them to raise money...

Love the pic of your hubby and daughter...

Re: Our Walks on the Moon.

Here are the 3 photos I submitted:

This is my Mother at the end of a hike somewhere along the Irish Loop. This trip was a starting over point for both her and I (though I don't think we ever explicitly said so). I was about to resume my studies and she was about to leave a stressful job though she didn't know where she was going to end up. I never asked her what she was thinking, but I'd like to think that somewhere along that endless horizon that she found the answers and strength she was looking for.

This is my cousin Mel and her should-be-fiance John. It doesn't really need much of an explination, but this was taken the morning after another cousin's wedding. The fallow field we were walking through was uneven & Mel's shoes weren't suited to the hike. One of those picture perfect days that seldom happens... I was walking a bit behind the group and just thought that this was one of those precious moments that will some day make it into a family slideshow.

The two people on the right are my Grandma Betty and Grandpa Harold. I'm not quite sure where this was  taken... I think Halifax. Harold sailed with the N. Atlantic Convoy and this is the only photo I have of him, taken just as he had joined the navy... happy, hopefull and idealistic. Grandma was glad to support him. I'd like to think of this moment as his one small step. Sadly his heart and mind never came back from it. My mother won't speak of him because to her he was a bastard, but I know that he must have had something redeeming about him or my grandmother would not have put up with him. I know that war changes people, I've seen it. Maybe I romanticize the whole thing, but what else is there to cling to.

I have none of myself... it seems at those moments I'm always behind a camera. I have one photo of myself which I snapped on a low res webcam which was really my latest moment of catharsis, but I'm looking like hell after my 2nd abdominal surgery - greasy hair, pale as a ghost in my flannel cow pjs, smiling dopily while showing off my 3 new scars and 40+ staples & drain. That was the moment that I realized that I had my priorities completed mucked up and that everything that I valued (job, mobility, independence) was gone and what was left was a family I had treated poorly up until then. That was the first day of the rest of my life. Sadly the photo doesn't say that, so I held that one back.

Re: Our Walks on the Moon.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who sent in photos of family/ancestors!  Something about those types of pictures just really fits the song and the video concept beautifully and I hope the director uses that type of photo as well...

Re: Our Walks on the Moon.

I would love to see old photos incorporated with new. I find that old photos tell such wonderful stories. I've just started a vintage family photo set on Flickr

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/sew_luvli/sets/72157604496979128/detail/

One of the images that I kept out of my video submissions that is my absolute favorite of the set is this one:

Its my grandpa Tony on his first tractor... you can tell he's proud because he's wearing his Sunday suit!... sorta silly, but it just shows how big is was for him.

Re: Our Walks on the Moon.

    Hey -

I just tried to send my pictures to gbs@visionfilmco.com, and it came back with a message saying the address doesn't exist.  Does anyone know anything about this, or am I just screwing up?

Re: Our Walks on the Moon.

Unfortunately, the photo send-in is now closed, they actually had to close it early as they had so many submissions. I didn't get to send my photos in as I was too late, sad2 so thought I would post them here instead.

This is where my husband proposed to me, it was a grey, rainy day on the Isle of Skye. He went down on one knee and the first thing I said to him was "Don't be stupid, get up!" closely followed by "Yes".

A honeymoon picture, taken in the Italian Dolomites. In the background you can see the  Marmolada, highest peak in the Dolomites which we climbed on one of our first days, we went with a group and got the ski lift up the first part before being roped together to walk across the glacier. A fantastic day!

And finally... I'm not sure if this one really fits with the achievements theme, and it's a bit blurry but it goes along with the other two really well...

The first photo of our daughter! I'm sure I'll be posting some more in August- she's due on the 6th!

Re: Our Walks on the Moon.

Perhaps I should go ahead and send something in... I suppose I could wrangle up some pictures from graduation or of my nephew's first steps or my niece riding a bike.

Lisa (I know I've mentioned this before) you're boys are too cute to not be in the video!!!!

Does anyone know when they are making the final choices of photos for the video?
