    GBS at Philadelphia Folk Festival

    Since GBS is scheduled to play at the Philadelphia Folk Festival which runs 8/15 - 8/17, and Akron, OH on 8/16 (Sat.); then they must be playing Philly either on 8/15 (Fri.) or 8/17 (Sun.) around the Akron show.  More information on the Philadelphia Folk Festival is available "In the Media."  Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers will also be playing at the Festival.  They opened for GBS in several gigs last year.

    I think they are scheduled to play in Philly on the 17th...

    We'll be camping in the Poconos area around then, so will probably make it over to the festival.

    Haven't heard of Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers... are they decent?

    They opened for GBS on several (all?) of their tour dates last summer - I caught them twice, and really liked them! Good tunes, good stage presence, funny, mellow, but with lots of energy. I think most of the audience really enjoyed them. (So did GBS, we spotted the boys watching/listening to them from off-stage, before it was their turn to go on.)

    Tell me about it. The folk festival website gives zero information. As far as I can tell it doesn't even explain what the difference is between getting seats and not getting seats, as in where are your situated in either case. At least not from what I've found.

    Re: GBS at Philadelphia Folk Festival

    Last time I saw someone at the Main Stage (it was Natalie Macmaster and the Boys From the Lough) There was a huge seated area right in front of the stage and back about a block. On either side of the stage (extreme stage Bob and extreme Stage Murray) in that area was a place to dance. The reserved seating area was fenced in and on either side of the reserved seating area, from the dancing section all the way back, was a place for eons to sit on the grass and enjoy the show. There is nowhere near the stage for those who like to be right in front of the b'ys except the reserved seats in front, which are about 10-20 feet back from stage front. Now, I haven't been to the Folk festival lately -  the info I just gave you is 5 years old.

    And no alcoholic beverages whatsoever are allowed or sold to the public. Unless they've changed the rules since the last time I was there.

    Just got some helpful information from an email I sent to Folk Fest folks.  If anyone is contemplating the up front reserved seating -- it is NOT assigned seating , rather it is first-come, first served, so you can buy individual tickets and meet up with friends there and sit together.  The schedule is supposed to be announced next week;

    My friends and I are looking to come down from NYC for this gig.  Hopefully that schedule will be posted soon so we know whether or not to take that following Monday off from work! :-D

    This is not offical to say the least but i belive they are planning on having Great Big Sea close the show Sunday nite.  So they would be on around 830 ish.  I highly recommend if you are going to come just make a weekend of it.  I have been going to fest since I was knee high in the mud.  If you like to stay up all nite and party and get to know some good people come for the weekend,  it is an experience not to miss.  But that is just my opinion.

    For anyone who hasn't noticed on the tour page, Alan is doing a songwriter's circle at the Philly Folk Festival.

    Thanks for the heads-up, Fran.  Guess I will be starting my day there a bit earlier than I'd originally planned!

    Anyone know how it works? I couldn't find any info off festival site. If you have an all-day ticket can you just show up or do you have to reserve for the Song writer's cirle?

    Re: GBS at Philadelphia Folk Festival

    If you get an all day ticket that includes everything.  The 4 side stages where they have workshops (singer/songwriter, political songs, etc) Dulcimer grove where they have anything and everything a kid would want to do.  and the evening concert on the main stage.  If you want to get close to the stage your best bet would be to get reserve seating tickets.  They are not assigned seats so you wanna get there early to get a good seat.  i enjoy sitting on the hill tho. You can see the full stage and there are video screens on either side.  You can dance and not worrying about knocking your chair into someone else.  Hope to see you all there.
