Re: Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach
Oh. My. God. I spent many, many regrettable evenings there, but I always had a blast. I think I was there every Sat night during the summers of '86, '87, '88. I took the hubby there in maybe 2001 (he wasn't in the picture in the '80s) and it was one of the rare places of my youth that he totally "got"--we got a big ol' load on and yelled and screamed to the Greaseband. Ironically, we were planning to be in Rehoboth that week, but made a recent decision to go to Italy this summer (earlier in Aug) and thus decided we couldn't afford both. BUT--my friends are still going to be there, and I assume (1) we can crash on their couch and (2) they will have a line on a babysitter. There's no way I can miss them there, I have to find a way to be there! For the faint of heart, it does promise to be a rowdy night, and a stark contrast to Wolf Trap.

Re: Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach
The Bottle and Cork!!!
Being out here in Colo you'd never guess that I too remember many a summer weekend at the beach and of course, sat night at the B&C!!! I lived in DE for eleven yeas. The Bottle and Cork is indeed "legendary" ! Flyersgal - I wouldn't be surprised if we were there on some of the same summer nights in the 80's! (never have taken my hubby there, however) I would love to see these guys there - but it is not in the budget, nor the schedule...beginning of a brand new school year - and hopefully in my new placement.... How cool is that. tho? Great Big Sea at the B&C ? ! ? Never would have guessed.....

Helen--seems likely you, me and Nova were there on some of the same nights! How funny. I am not sure how the blending of my past and present will feel, but I am looking forward to finding out. Wish you could be there!

Yay! I have an aunt and uncle in Wilmington I can crash with! Wahoooo....here comes summer! Maybe if they play B&C, they'll make it back to Toad's in New Haven. One can always hope.
Cheers all,
Kati

Re: Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach
It's funny...missing AC, Hugh's Room, skipping the Molson...none of that has fazed me. I thought I'd do Akron (hopefully) and Wolf Trap, and hope for something closer in the fall. But as soon as I saw this show listing - wow. I knew I had to find a way to do it. GBS on a hot August night at a notorious beach bar??!!?? This would be my version of heaven. Plus we always go to Cape May (the Jersey shore) every summer - except this year. I'm glad we're doing something different (probably a cruise to Nova Scotia - better check the travel thread!)...but i had some slight regret about not getting to the beach. So now - even more perfect. I'm getting a conditional "we'll try" from my husband - but I am determined. Bowery/NYC in January, the beach in August - the Daffodil Place benefit in December? Well, I aim high, and we'll see.

Re: Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach
Bottle and Cork - wow what a blur that place is to me. I've been there but I think only once. We saw George Thorogood and the Destoyers - late 70's. A friend of ours parent's had a beach house in Dewey and us hippies went there for a several day party. It's all a blur really..... Now if I can just talk the hubby into going on 8/21 and then heading home the next day for Wolf Trap. Maybe I'll remember more about being there this time. tee/hee! Thanks for the heads up Nova!!

Ha ha! Very funny guys. I say "go to the beach" and you pick the wrong one. It's SUNSET BEACH! SUNSET BEACH, NC! NOT DELWARE! NORTH CAROLINA! Much warmer down there! Just a smidge above South Carolina! Any vice can be met just an hour south in Myrtle Beach! Here I know a great rental company! http://www.sunsetbeachnc.com/
