I'm glad you edited that post... I don't think I was mean to anybody and I'm not sure I deserved that...
    sigh...

I'm sure I have no idea which post edit you're referring to YS. I'm a writer; I edit. Here's what I can confirm to you about our exchange just now. When sneering is categorized after the fact as humor, it is still sneering.

Putting that last gratuitous comment out like that serves no purpose but to stir up the gick at the bottom of the pot.

I don't think you've been nice or mean. I think you've been either very subjective, very naive, or very hopeful in your perspective on GBS ticket pricing, that's all.

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

    I wasn't sneering.

I was laughing at the fact that I don't think GBS would ever be pompous enough to call themselves "awesome" or raise prices because they thought they were.

I never said they weren't "awesome". Just don't think they're that full of themselves.

    Thanks.

And at least I didn't post what the edited comment said when I read it.

I not getting any further into this because we're worlds apart and moving farther away from one another in this conversation. G'night.

What folks are not mentioning is that often the band/performer has little say in what the ticket prices are. They are paid by the venue and/or promoter. The Venue/Promoter has to make the money pay what ever price it is to hire GBS, PLUS pay their staff and other costs, and make a profit. This all gets factored into the ticket price.  If the folks putting on the show have to rent a venue that adds costs too..if they are renting a place like oh, Molson Stadium it's going to be a whole lot more expensive than it would be to rent a place like Lee's Palace in Toronto. And all of this goes up pretty much every year.

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

    Very good point Andi.

Another obvious reason for the increase in ticket prices is the skyrocketing cost of fuel, which takes a big bite of the profits when you consider that the tank must be filled numerous times to drive the tour bus & equipment trailer, and it also would affect their airline travel prices. Anyway, we are unfortunately paying more for everything these days, so it's just not realistic to expect GBS ticket prices to be the same as in previous years. They have to make a profit in order to keep on touring.

I haven't seen GBS in concert since July 2006, so at this point (in my concert drought mode) I would gladly pay $80 or even $100 to see GBS. I don't think of it as "just a concert", it's also a chance to reunite with other GBS fans & many good friends to enjoy a fantastic show and spend a day or two visiting with each other. I love the whole concert/socializing experience, so for me the ticket price and GBS entertainment is worth every hard-earned dollar. Smile

Lisa & everyone, I'm so glad you had a great time at the St.Patricks Day show, sounds like it was a blast ! Phooey on the venue's Camera Police !

The high ticket price is my fault... I asked the band for a cut of their box office and they graciously agreed... I'll tell them it's not necesary anymore... sorryEmbarrassed

Funny, I said that exact same thing AT THE BEGINNING of this thread and was told I was wrong...

I knew we could flush the true culprit out of the woodwork if we just persisted with our stubbornly inane head banging. A-HA!! It was you all along. Should have guessed! LOL. BTW, you should offer a course in my area: The Art of the Question: How to Make Your First Cool Million in Business Without Even Trying! ... I'm so there. I'll even pay the $70 pre-registration fee. :P

Tis was indeed a grand show... very much enjoyed it... phooey on the camera police indeed... ahh well not like I really take pictures anyway... I always forget to pull out the camera... =) next time... lol..

Ticket prices... ehhh... like a I said before... I'll pay to see them... I did this time... $90 the most I have ever paid... I guess it comes down to what you are willing to pay... you pay... you see them... you don't want to pay you don't see them.. pretty simple... does not make you less or more of a fan if you make it to their shows or not... Like Mel said.. prices of everything has gone up... so why would tix prices stay the same??? Shows are not a NEED (well okay they are lol...) but you know what I mean... they are something you WANT... and those, my friends, are luxuries... you pay for them regardless...

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

ok let's see , 80 or what 90 bucks at the casino.  It used to be that the on their way down the dosnslide is when bands used to play casinos, bands that can't fill stadiums anymore.  Not the case with GBS, they are still moving up.  I have no logistics as to why they seem to be doing casino gigs unless they are getting ready to sign their contract with vegas.  haha all said in jest or the avoidance of the Maritimes or damn the deals seem to be saying go to the States if you want to see Great Big Sea
