    Re: Atlantic City HOB Show

Quick comment, I'm still not home. Had an amazing time.

Kaesye fell asleep during John Barbour (what do you expect, it's her bedtime music) but that's ok, Bob got her going again with Helmethead.

HUGE thanks to Alan for running up to her at the end of the show and giving her his pick.

1-2-3-4 definitiely is not on the new CD.

Rocks of Marasheen was a last second change to the set. Sean decided he was tired of General Taylor and decided to throw it in. He really couldn't remember all the words and made a few changes along the way. I thought he had amazing eyesight if he could read his cue sheet from where he was, but he said he actually couldn't. He was concerned we wouldn't like it the song compared with the usual General Taylor.

And Sharn, I hate to be the barer of bad news, but Murray said it doesn't look like Halifax is in the near future. We tried, honest we did!

I haven't been to a GBS concert in a long time.

All I can say is WOW!  It was incredible...

    Re: Atlantic City HOB Show

It was a great show!  I sat in the "walking and standing challenged" seating next to the sound boad during the opening act, and then assumed a place hanging on to the stage during GBS.  What a great show.

Kim has a set list which I'm sure she will post when she gets back to Chi-town.l

All I can say is I'm feeling sorry for myself at the moment...

Didn't realize the boys were going back to the VIP lounge after... and totally missed out!

Not that I would have remembered anyways... I think I was barely standing at that point! lol.

And after my last drunken encounter with Alan on the cruise... I'd prefer to leave a better impression - lol.

    Ahh well... next time.

Anyone get any pix of the after party???

    Sharn,

I can't imagine why they don't already have a Halifax date. Did they have trouble with the venue last time they were there? Or maybe they were banned like at the Philly Folk Festival. Was Louden Wainwright there at the same time? Confused

I hope they change their minds about it soon.

    Fran,

I wish I had known that was you! Did anyone tell me? Maybe I just didn't hear.

    Carol,

Argh!!!!! Why didn't you tackle me? Glad you were there! I was considering the standing-challenged section, myself. But I brought the cane chair.

    Re: Atlantic City HOB Show

Checking in late here, but I wanted to say what a great time I had Friday night!  I discovered GBS not long before getting pregnant with my daughter (after many years of trying).  While I am among the very lucky fans who live here in the US Northeast, where GBS plays a lot, my entire life as a GBS fan has revolved around trying to figure out how many area shows I can see and still arrange for child care.  When the hubby decided to stay home with our daughter and Anne graciously offered me a ride down to AC, I knew I was in for a worry free (if not quite consequence free) evening.  Had a lovely ride down to AC with Anne and Vic, and took advantage of Mutha’s hospitality in the truly trippy party suite.  My apologies for arriving empty-handed, Mutha—next time I will bring some beer!  The next bit of good hospitality we encountered was from ChiTownKim, who had a spare pass for the “VIP” line up to get in.  It was nice to see Lynda in line, as also to meet Howard and his wife.

The show itself was wonderful—I wasn’t sure what to expect given that the venue was a new one for the boys and I didn’t know what the audience make-up would be.  But the boys seemed to respond to the intimate audience size and the many, many familiar faces.  I have never been disappointed by a GBS show, but somehow this one felt like one of “warmest” shows I have been at.  That’s not quite the right word, but I have failed to come up with a better one in the day and a half since the show.  They seemed relaxed and very comfortable playing the new stuff and mixing up the set list.  Sean seemed delighted to be there and looked extremely yummy on Friday night.  I am usually stage Alan but decided to stay to Sean and Bob’s side on Friday and was rewarded with lovely views of two guys who seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves.  I loved the new stuff they played—“Straight to Hell” had been cut from the Collingswood show last spring, so this was the first time I heard it.  Anne and I had talked about “Oh Yeah” on the ride down—I realized right away what it was based on that conversation, and I must say, I really loved it (sorry, Anne!).  I can’t wait for the new CD—it will be interesting to see how they tie all the songs together, as there are many different things going on there.  “End of the World” was a nice surprise—Alan really did nail all the lyrics—I was impressed!

It was also great to meet some other OKPers—Horatia, lyndz, Chiarascurra (we’d met briefly before), JennyB, Fran and her family (my girl was very jealous when she heard about Kaesye) and especially Seaworthy—I had a blast sharing sarcastic comments!  Saw Nova across the room, but never got to say hello.

And final note to self:  next time they play AC, remember to wear nicer clothes so as to meet the VIP dress code—sounds like you all had a blast there, and I truly wish I could have been there, too!

Did you need something special to get into the VIP lounge? My husband and I ran into Alan a few hours after the show downstairs which was awesome. I can never get over how nice and conversational he is!

    Re: Atlantic City HOB Show

I believe it was Bob who said they're not really in charge of where they play. They have "people" who do that for them. Murray basically said the same thing. By the way am I the only one who's personal messages are not going through? It's driving me nuts!

    flyersgl:

Fran and her family (my girl was very jealous when she heard about Kaesye)

She had a wonderful time when she finally calmed down. I was worried what people around me were thinking because she was crying before the show started. For those who were wondering, The SUPER nice security guy got permission to let Kaesye stand on the other side of the barrier (it had a bench attached to the other side she could stand on) because he was concerned about her. He was a  large BALD man and him picking her up and pulling her over comepletely freaked her out. Combine that with the fact she would be out in front where the guys could obviously take notice of her and it was worse. Once Pat McGee started, she started again being mesmerized by the lighting (she's going to be a theatre technician, I think) and when GBS took to the stage all was fine. She spent Saturday and SUnday talking about them. We were listening to River Driver in the car and I hear "Remember when Alan forgot the words and sang the same words over again? He's so silly! I remembered the words, but he didn't." One highlight had to be after falling asleep to JB and I tried to wake her up. Bob always gets her going so I kept trying to get 'through' and tell her Helmethead was starting. We hit the first chorus and I look at her, eyes still rolling around in her head and a weak little fist coming up. She was wide awake again by the end of the song and apparently my husband couldn't get her to go to sleep until 1:30 after her power nap.

It was great meeting people and putting faces to names, or even discovering people like Seaworthy actually had real names, imagine that. (BTW: I was having some PM problems before too, my messages were being sent but I couldn't access the replies without a whole bunch or problems because the system kept signing me out).

Anne, sorry we didn't get to talk. I presumed you knew it was me because of Kaesye (who else would be insane enough to bring a little kid to a GA concert?) I'm shy about stuff like that, never presume people are looking to talk to me unless they actually approach me. If I had known, I would have said something.

Sharn, again, we tried, really we did, short of telling Murray you were going to come after them with axes if they didn't.
