I went to see Gaelic Storm last night. When they closed with Tell Me Ma, for a moment I felt like I was back aboard the Victory in the Adriatic Lounge on a Thursday night with 3 minutes left -- one of the most fun musical numbers of the whole trip!  At least last night I didn't nearly kill myself getting there or trying to balance myself on a chairBig Smile

It must have been a cruise deja vu weekend - I ran into Will Byington, the Sixthman photographer TWICE this weekend - once at Bernie's, post Cubs game on Friday and then tonite at the Stephen Kellogg show at the Beat Kitchen.  I suspect that we may run into each other quite a bit over the next few (i.e. summer-ish) months... seem to be moving in the same circles  Wink

Good times!  I'm eagerly awaiting new cruise news (say that fast! I dare you) 'cause the circles I'm traveling in involve dodging dinkys and mega blocks. Hahaha!!! Angel

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

I hear what you are saying, and yes, it's NOT cheap to cruise.  First figure that the Sixthman cruises are  a lot more expensive than normal cruises ( without the current live bands ).  Mom took a 2 week cruise about 4 months ago, ( not sure if it was 12 or 14 days )  and she paid about the same price as the cruise we were on, but she didn't have live bands ( however they had live shows which she really loved )

Even Ed of Barenaked Ladies, acknowledged, and appreciated how expensive it was  to cruise, saying he knows it is a LOT of money to come aboard with them, and then he thanked everyone for coming. ( This was on the last night of the cruise, and their last mega concert ) ( boy that was amazing I'll say... the show was so loud the floor of the auditorium was shaking ! )  He mentioned this, because this cruise wasn't even over and he then offically announced that Ships And Dip V, and knew that people would have to save up some nice $ to join them again.  I guess it just shows that he's grounded, and although rich and famous, knows the meaning of the dollar for regular folks.

I just wish the cruise was a few days longer, I felt I was just getting into it, and it was time to leave.  2 days more would have been great.  However, in the end I guess it's Barenaked Ladies and Carnival that decide this, and they don't want it too long, if too long, perhaps this would be less appetizing for some of the bands that were invited.  A shorter cruise ensures more bands will be able to come.

Start saving those pennies ! Big Smile

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

Just 'cause it's the weekend, I've uploadeded a new performance of Alan Doyle doing "Straight To Hell " during the songwriter's circle, aboard the Carnival Victory.  Feb. 2008

    Here it is: http://youtube.com/watch?v=h0rTxWBOi9U

I've also posted  a number of other non-related GBS vids, of me walking around the ship with my camcorder.  If you have never been on a cruise before it may be fun to see some of them.  It was my first time on a cruise ship, and believe me, the experience was very very overwhelming.

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

I hope they give the new single air time on some of the big stations here in Canada.  I hope people will post to the forum, if they hear the song being played in the States.

One of our stations here is Hot 89.9 and has blown away all the competition, and is by far the most popular station with the younger crowd, so I don't hold out any hope for it on that station.

Then we have other stations, that play more of the oldies, so I don't see it going there.  It will be interesting to see which stations pick it up.  I think Hot 89.9 should play it, 'cause I think it would be a hit with the kids, if they could ever get away from the boom-boom kind of music for 5 mins LOL tounge

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

I've mentioned before my problems with Montreal's biggest radio station only playing When I'm Up (shouldn't complain, at 3 times weekly during business hours, it's the most airplay of any song over a year old).

Maybe we should post links to our stations and we can request for each other's stations in an effort to get more airplay on Monday.

Here's mine if anyone else is interested: http://www.themix.com/requests/create
