Re: GBS at the Bowery Ballroom Tonight
Chiarascura: I got a shot of the setlist, and it's here, along with all the other pictures. (Not too many this time.)
You go girl. Great shots. I am asking Santa for a real camera this Christmas. I love that mine is so small (and takes great videos) but your pictures are amazing. It's a Canon, right? I have a Canon Rebel 35mm, do you think my zoom lenses would work on your camera? I need one. Badly. I was 2 feet away from Sean during "General Taylor" and didn't see him as well as I did in your pictures. Nicely done. Good to know rum doesn't hurt your ability to take great pix!

I agree with all, the boys were fabulous! Below is the link to my pics on photobucket. I was drooling over Murray at the far corner so I didnt get many or good shots of Sean and Bob.

My pleasure! I loved everyone else's. We did a pretty good job covering the show, I'd say. Frizzchik (you dirty pirate hooker, you ;), GREAT shots of Murray! One of my companions most insistently suggested that I diversify my ogling to include Murray. Your pictures may just push me in that direction ;)

Diversification is the key to success! And listen, I can be happy without a Halifax show. I can be happy for whole minutes at a time! I will likely be giddily happy for maybe even TWO minutes when I have the new CD in my hands. Buuuuuuuuut, then, the sad reality the scarcity of Halifax shows will drag me back down to the quagmire of despair. sigh.

Re: GBS at the Bowery Ballroom Tonight
oh so i forgot to mention that me and my boyfriend got into the city a 2;30....a little earlier than we should have been, but we have no sense of direction (despite the fact that we go to the city fairly often)so we figured we'd get lost, plus we knew we had to find a place to eat and we also like to walk around...well, we walked around china town for about 2 hours, aimlessly, unable to find a place to get dinner....but while we were waslking around, we were stopped at the corner waiting to cross, and i look up, and this man turns his head and i look at my boyfriend and i start poking him...and i whispered...,"thats sean mccan" and he was like huh? whos he? (he doesnt know names or anything else) but i was like the blonde guy from GBS and he was like OH YEA it is why dont u say hi...and i couldnt! i just couldnt do it. im such a sissy...he looked like he was looking at a map, and he was with some other guy and i just couldnt say anything because #1 im incredibly shy...and #2 i just feel bad bothering people....so we followed him for a block (not purposely, but we were just looking for a place to eat still) and then made a left or something. but ended up farther into china town than we wanted to be...turns out maybe we should have just followed because maybe they knew where they were going lol...so yea.....should i have just said hi? maybe have asked for a picture? any advice for next time i have a run in like that? lol btw....we realized around 4:30 that there was one block we didnt go down....and when we did, much to our suprise little italy was right there!!! so of course, we found some place good to eat :)

Wow, that's like a dream come true scenario! We were driving around looking for a parking garage (honestly, my husband was looking for a parking garage, I was looking at the pedestrians!) and I was hoping to see the b'ys out and about. No such luck on my part. I think if you had said hi, Sean might have been happy to be recognized on a NY city street, but I think you did the right thing in respecting his privacy. It's gotta get old having people come up to you all of the time. I don't know what I would have done if I were you. Wish I had had the same opportunity at any rate!

Re: GBS at the Bowery Ballroom Tonight
tell me about it! Here I am, about to see a band i've liked for so long for the first time ever, and before the show even starts im standing like 3 inches behind one of the band members! afterward i was like AHHH i should have just said hi, whats up, i love your music and im going to your show later and ended it at that, but like i said, i dont like bothering people, famous or not. I never get in situations lke that, must have just been a good week, because the wednesday before the gbs show, i was in the city because i was going to a show at the bitter end, so we were walkin around the village, and i came very close to literally walking into bill hader, from saturday night live...i just said im sorry and stared at him for a second, thinking....hey i know you and after we walked around him me and my boyfriend just looked at each other and were like...hey cool. lol but again, didnt say anything because of the reasons i gave before, plus he was on the phone...must have just been my lucky week! but i swear to myself, if there is ever a time i run into one of the boys like that again, im gonna open my mouth, even if just to say one simple sentence lol anyone who has ever met them, are they nice? i dont know what it is, but they just seem so genuine and nice, so i assume thats how they are.

Re: GBS at the Bowery Ballroom Tonight
As far as meeting them, I have not had the pleasure, but from what I've heard, they're very pleasant (love to hear from someone who's had a Bob encounter....) Where Murray's concerned, however, you might get a different perspective here: www.murraythebastard.com. But I don't believe any of that stuff... Just a quick, late note to say what a GREAT time I had on Sunday night!! Really nice people on this board: I enjoyed meeting and hanging out with GBSeaford, BetRx & spouse, nova, chiarascura, etc. We got a little crazy (well, some of us, maybe) - but NYC and GBS - how can you beat it??? And the weather was excellent for mid-January all weekend (I came in Saturday and loved walking all over town) - the six inches of snow they were predicting never materialized. Warm memories to hold onto through a cold Pittsburgh winter...thanks, everyone!

Re: GBS at the Bowery Ballroom Tonight
i realize this show has been done for a few weeks now, but i came across a fan on myspace who saw the bowery show, and her opinion was that they werent into it as much as other shows she's seen. she was disappointed that there was no intermission, she thought there wasnt enough on stage banter, and she said they seemed rush and didnt think it was a very good show at all. Everyone has their own opinion, and thats fine. But for me, the show was amazing, but it was only my first GBS show ever. So, i was just wondering what other people who were at the show, and have seen the band other times, think of that? Is an intermission something they usually do? They played almost two hours, i didnt think an intermission was necessary. I know a lot of people said it was a great show because it was much more old school GBS..... either way, i never had so much fun. SO opinions? if i see them again in the future, which i plan on doing, should i expect anything different? i was just confused by this opinion because i only heard great reviews from the show. either way....i think it was terrific!

Re: GBS at the Bowery Ballroom Tonight
Nicole, They are very nice guys to meet. But of course, they all have their good days and their bad days. I think the show at the Bowery was good, but it wasn't the best I've seen. It all depends on your point of view. I've seen 55 shows so I have a lot to compare to. If this was your first, I am sure it was good enough to blow you out of the ater. Their live show can't be beat as far as I'm concerned. It's not usual for them to play with an internmission. They only did that during the Courage, Patience and Grit tour so they could set up the drum kit for the second half. That being said, I really did enjoy it when they played seated venues and had an intermission because I have physical disablities which prevent me from standing for long periods of time. I brought my cane-chair to the Bowery so it wasn't a problem. I'm sure I'll do the same at Atlantic City. WIth this new album being a more rock-oriented one, I'd guess they'd play more GA shows without seating this time around. WHich probably means no intermission. S'okay, they still put on a darn good show. Anne

So true, Anne. Last year I saw back to back shows (come to think of it, Anne, you did too!) at the Scottish Rite Auditorium in Collingswood, NJ and the Hammerstein in NYC the following night. They were two entirely different shows, and I can't tell you which one was more enjoyable. "Berry Picking Time" in Collingswood vs. "Bad as I Am" in NYC....how can you even compare the two? Both NYC shows I've seen have had minimal banter, but non stop awesome music. I don't think that that is necessarily a bad thing, just different. Sounds like the MySpace person prefers the more laid back, chit chatty shows. They're great too, but really enjoyed this Bowery show. To each his own. I have never been disappointed by a GBS show!

Re: GBS at the Bowery Ballroom Tonight
Now that I've stopped to think about it, granted I haven't been to huge amounts of concerts for any band, is it really a normal thing to even have intermission? Outside of theatrical or classical shows, there isn't usually an intermission interupting a musical act, just in between acts. Why be shocked that there was none at The Bowery? I, myself, was rather surprised when they had an intermission in Lowell, it seemed odd to me. I imagine that the people that run the indoor venues would prefer an intermission if there's a bar for the audience to spend money at though. As for the banter, I like it, I could sit around listening to them talk all night (but, it being a concert, music would be in order). I kind of like the rhythm of 'sing a couple songs...yak a bit...sing some more', also gives them a breather. I certainly wouldn't be upset over lack of banter but would probably presume that they didn't feel up to it that night. But ya know what? They're HUMAN. No one feels like doing anything, every night. There are going to be nights where any one of them doesn't feel like being there for whatever reason. Alan always seems to be all smiles but that doesn't mean that he doesn't have bad days too. The apparent lackluster banter in Lowell made me think something was up then, but they still did a great show regardless.

Re: GBS at the Bowery Ballroom Tonight
thanks for your opinions. I was just curious about what other experience GBS concert goers thought....but everyones got their own oooopinions since it was my first, to me it seemed like there was a lot of banter. I've never been to a show with so much chatting in between songs, which was fine. I liked it. They're funny guys. Even my bf thats not a fan really thought so. except, he said he thought the guy with the fiddle was creepy...i was like well, no. he's not. hes mysterious and quieter than the rest from what i could tell. I like that about him. you can tell hes real smart, and talented....I personally, LOVE his perfect posture when he's playing whatever instrument he's playing at the time. He stands so perfectly, i think thats awesome....weird? maybe...but it reminds me of when i was in elementary and jr high and high school, in the school band when i played flute, and i used to get yelled at for have bad posture.......i'm admite of his obvious non- laziness lol anywa | | |
