Re: Whats on your Thanksgiving Menu?

I've had Thanksgiving in a restaurant a couple of times, and while it seems deeply sacriligious to my highly traditional self, my mother absolutely loves it.  Other people cook, other people clean up, and it's usually all-you-can-eat.  Bonnie, if you decide to go out for Thanksgiving, I'd strongly suggest making reservations, because (here, at least) a lot more people go that route than you'd think and it may be hard to get a table.

When we did large family Thanksgivings at home, I always made dill cheese bread.  It's ridiculously easy.  You cut pilsbury biscuits in halves and arrange them in a bundt pan, spoon a mixture of melted butter, parmesan cheese, dill, garlic salt (or is it powder?) over the biscuits, add more biscuit halves, add more mixture, and bake it in the oven for 35 minutes.  Always a crowd pleaser.

This year my parents and I (and, with large amounts of luck, my aunt, uncle, and cousins who live in Arkansas) will be at Disneyland.  So I have no idea what will be on the menu, but to be honest, as long as I get to see the Christmas parade, I don't care.  Wink

My extended families schedules are dictating that we have our Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday. As I am working evenings Friday, days Saturday and Sunday and I have a wedding Saturday night to attend, I decided they could do all the cooking too! I will miss it though, perhaps I will have to have a replay next weekend for my family at home!  My sister is coming today with the Northern Spy apples (pie at long last) and pie pumpkins, dear lord I'm gaining weight just thinking about it , enough already. Leaving the food thread while I still fit into my clothes!

I made the butternut squash at my home for the first time... it was a huge hit... and super easy.. all I did was cut the squash in half, cleaned out the seeds put them face down (skin side up) on a pan in the oven on 350C oven for 30-40min then I took them out.. added butter and sprinkled with brown sugar... put back in oven skin side down... and baked for another 10 minutes... DELISH!!!!

    Mashed sweet potatoes.

Do not forget the secret ingredient, BOURBON! If you have never tasted them prepared that way you have little to be thankful for! Just a teaspoon for each sweet potato or yam, (or more to your  taste) the flavor is something else!
