I have heard another rendition of Charlie Horse that had Calvin and Buck. Buck seems to have staying power but there is some confusion over who the other fella actualy was!

The gang was so loaded, when all was said and done, they couldn't remember who was there.

    GBS80:
There's one line that I've always wondered what it actually was when sean first wrote it : " Death where is thy victory where is thy string " from Summer. That's the way I heard it and I checked this website and that's what it has there but it doesn't make any sense to me within the context of the song. Maybe it's some kind of Shakespeare thing...i dunno....what string is he referring too??

    In the Bible, 1Corinthians 15:55

"O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?"

I always assumed he was looking at Winter as Death - Everything is cold, trees are bare, grass is brown, flowers gone. But Winter does not have an eternal grip - Spring will arrive, and then Summer!

That's a typo!  It's "sting," and yes Séan swiped it from Shakespeare, who swiped it in turn from the Bible.

I once had a boyfriend who hated Sting's music, and would grumble, "O Sting, where is thy death?"

    Fran:

There are times when I hear 2 syllabels (dories) and other times only one (doors).

Is it possible that these were the original lyrics that got changed right before recording? I'm still trying to figure out why Alan changed from Kevin to Billy for Charlie-Horse...While we're on the subject or Ordinary Day..."Jaded scenes on the corner" figured he was talking about a prostitute who refuses to let this rough world get her down.

    I'm a wealth of mis-heard lyrics.

    Fran,

it's "Janey sings on the corner- it's what keeps her from dying"

BY' are the lyrics on this site ever wrong!!!

He's talking about another musician - who's name escapes me right now (not enough coffee, look at the time) who resorted to busking to make a living....

Alan explained that in a song writers circle last year or the year before...

I eventually figured it out but sometimes I sing it jaded scenes anyway, I kind of like it that way.

Excursion Around the Bay: For a while I figured the wife's problem was that she was a drunk and it eventually caught up to her because "She died, a load of brandys" Drinks until I was perusing a map of NL and figured it out.

    Re: Mis-Heard GBS Lyrics

On this same line from Jack Hinks -- I've always heard "like a ramblin' true blue, when the red queen comes due."  Don't ask me why.  I know this makes no sense, and I figured I wasn't hearing correctly, but those are the words in my head for that line.

Two others, which my 13 year old sisters firmly corrected me on:

In Consequence Free, I always thought it was "all the rules are made for livin'" -- made sense to me.  Sort of a "the law was made for man, not man for the law" idea.

And another one where I completely misheard -- in Everything Shines, I always heard "How could you be so long" instead of "How could you be so dumb."   Realized that my little sisters were right about this when I listened to Everything Shines on Road Rage and wondered how I could have misheard that for so long!

I always thought the line in "Pat Murphy" was "We stopped the hearse on George Street, outside some damn saloon."

It took Candace walking me down to the Sundance and pointing it out to me to learn any different.

That's what I've always thought.  What does it actually say?

It's apparently, "Outside Sundance Saloon." There is an actual Sundance Saloon.

    TheYoungSpaniard:
Come and I Will Sing You has some interesting potential screwups.

    "Five firemen under the bush"

    "Three limo drivers"

... the list just goes on. Poor Bob.

You mean it's not "five firemen under the bush?"  How sad, I think that's my favorite part of the song!  *dirty thoughts*  I may just have to keep singing it that way anyway.  Wink

Columbine, I also heard "UFO regulations" in Fisherman's Lament.  I guess I just thought Canada  had wierd names for things.  *L*

Anyone amused by misheard lyrics should check out kissthisguy.com.  Some of the stuff people hear is hilarious!  My favorite is from someone who was listening to "Give Peace a Chance" and hear "Oh, we are sailing!  Yes, give Jesus pants!"  Jester

I have 2 of his books. Even the preface is hilarious. "I led the pigeons to the flag..."

Chiara..I thought it was some damn saloon too for a while, another that I still sometimes sing wrong on purpose.

Wow.  I really thought I had those lyrics right.  I guess not.  It really sounds like "some damn saloon."

That's one I mis-heard too...didn't have a clue it was wrong until I was learning to play the song on the guitar.  I still like singing it "outside some damn saloon" when I play/perform...old habits die hard.  Smile
