Mason jar and beer go together like bread and butter.  That's great, first I've ever heard that!

"Get up Jack, John sit down" is my favorite line in that song.

My 2 most common mistakes ..

"oh-oh-oh, Come on now".. I sang as "oh-oh-oh, Komono" you know from the Beach Boys.  It all makes sense in a wierd way because, both carefree songs, then I read the lyrics and laughed.  This is from hearing the song in concert before having the cd.

"We were picking berries at old Aunt Mary's, when I picked a blushing bride"  .. I always sang as "when I picked a blushing ripe"  Which again made sense to me, as the berry was verrrry ripe.

Sorry, double-post but I just remembered my worst ever. I challange you to top this. My husband still laughs at me over it.

One day in the car with my husband, we were listening to Tickle Cove Pond. My usual M.O. is to say "Ohhhhh...(long pause)..so that's what he says". Hubby: "What?" Me: "Olfords and Whites" H: "What did you think he said?" Me (very shyly): "Old virgin whites". He nearly drove off the road. Don't ask me what old virgin whites are, I just figured it was some sort of NL nickname for something that I was just too dense to understand.

I think John Barbour would be the perfect name for a cat.

I had a girl from NL explain that to me. I originally figured it was something like that too. Maybe Batise (sounds like Ba-Tease) coming from the french word Betise (bay-tease), but that would be insulting.

I too thought it was Batiste-given that batiste is a type of fabric,  I didn't think too much of it, I thought maybe it was a nickname for a regiment based on it's uniform or something.

No clue I understand very little in the song outside of the 1st verse, "Mari-mac's mother's makin' Mari-mac marry me, my mother's makin' me marry mari-mac" & the part where "people often wonder if it's Mari or her mother or both of them together I am courting". Lost for most of the rest. No clue what's going on in the knife & fork part or the rest of the chorus.

How about this one from Charlie-Horse: I started out singing it "2 stout dories and a few strong ropes" but after a while I began to doubt myself. There were times I could swear Alan was saying 2 stout doors. Didn't know how deep the pond was. Figured a couple of people jumped in and maneuvered Charlie onto the doors and then just dragged the doors out onto the beach. Made perfect sense to me.

There are times when I hear 2 syllabels (dories) and other times only one (doors).

Is it possible that these were the original lyrics that got changed right before recording? I'm still trying to figure out why Alan changed from Kevin to Billy for Charlie-Horse...While we're on the subject or Ordinary Day..."Jaded scenes on the corner" figured he was talking about a prostitute who refuses to let this rough world get her down.

I'm a wealth of mis-heard lyrics.

There's one line that I've always wondered what it actually was when sean first wrote it : " Death where is thy victory where is thy string " from Summer. That's the way I heard it and I checked this website and that's what it has there but it doesn't make any sense to me within the context of the song. Maybe it's some kind of Shakespeare thing...i dunno....what string is he referring too??

I just about drove everyone I know nuts making them listen to Time Brings, to try figure out the words I could only hear as "rose hipped tomatoes" what ever the heck that might be, and how did that line fit in the song. after sitting one night listening (might have had a wee dram of a special potion, I heared rose lipped maidens and jumped up shreeking with joy the lost words were found!

I have heard another rendition of Charlie Horse that had Calvin and Buck. Buck seems to have staying power but there is some confusion over who the other fella actualy was!

Off to listen to summer now!
