    Fritters

When you think of a fritter[sweet or savory] do you think of a globular fried food product or do you think of something more pancake shaped?  My mother is of the school that a fritter is a pancake.  I am of the deep fat fried ball school.

    example:

I am looking for a basic recipe that will get me a deep fat fried ball.  Anyone?

    Re: Fritters

Just off the top of my head, I would venture a guess that  the pancake style  fritter  would be made with a thin batter  and the  deep fat  fried  ball  would be  made with more of  a  dough. Here is a  link for soem fritters   http://southernfood.about.com/od/doughnutsandfritters/a/aa062699.htm  The  Corn  Fritters and the Banana  Fritters   both look like  the fried  balls.

    Re: Fritters

We've used the add water then shake and make pancake mixes to make banana and apple fritters, the guys have even used them to make deep fried mars bars.  They poured the batter into a bowl, dip coated the fruit (or Mars bar) pieces then deep fried.  Not exactly diet food, but yummy all the same.

Honey!  Oh my, I haven't thought of Chicken on the Way in AGES lol.  I used to live very close to ye' old COTW and the corn fritters were a staple.

Sadly, I think COTW is gone now but I'm not sure....

Oh no, COTW cannot be gone, I have to be able to go and have a fritter again!

Peter's Drive-In!!!!  I could never forget that place.  Mmmmm yeah... Strawberry-Banana milkshake was my fave.  With chunks of fruit...the best.  I love that you can mix flavors for the shakes.  Can't forget the huge burgers...yum yum!  When I was younger, friends and I would go and get a large fry which was sufficient in feeding several people for not very much money!!!!  I went to Crescent, so I lived in the area.

I've got a great story about Peter's.  I was sitting home one day, when I lived just off of Edmonton Trail and I was getting the munchies, so I hopped in my truck and drove to Peter's.  The linup was long and as I sat in line, I was listening to the radio.  I can't remember which station, when I heard the radio personality who I think was named kato(sp), announce that the first one to show up on location to 17th ave sw at some music store, with a Peter's burger and fries would win tickets to Green Day.   Well, I was probably 6 cars back, and when I got to the window I asked whether anybody had bought a burger for the radio station.  She had no idea what I was talking about.  I bought the loot and drove as fast as I could and even lucked out with a parking spot behind the van.  I ran in and I won!!!!!  A guy showed up just minutes behind me, but I was first.  Anyways, I was right excited, because I asked if these were floor tickets, seeing as the lineup outside the music store was waiting to get floor tickets once they went on sale.  He said, yes call him.  I waited till the very last to go pick up my tickets, and of course they weren't floor, but balcony, in their section with the railing in front, probably saved for the winners.  I didn't sit in my seats but found other seats.  I probably could have made it on to the floor, 2 others I was with did, but enjoyed the show regardless.

    Trip down memory lane!!!

Now, that we are totally off-topic! Big Smile
