Thought maybe a thread for visual art works unrelated to GBS might be a great forum to display work! Paintings, drawings, photos, sculpture photos, photos of the many talented crafters' works here, like needlework, quilting, jewelry. Or maybe we could have another thread for crafters if they like? Up to them! I'm all for it, I could post photos of costumes I've made there. :) Maybe photograpers want their own thread? Who knows! Make this thread what you want and folks can branch out and create their own threads from here! :) An ooooooold piece, this must've been from when I was about...13? It's watercolor wash...you select a space and "paint" it with plain water, then pick up some watercolor paint on your brush and touch it to the wet paper... and in bleeds and spreads, really fun to do. The more controlled areas of color were done by waiting for the area to dry a little and then adding color. This was an art club projected in middle school...we went and collected leaves and created a stencil from them, then layered the stencil repeatedly on watercolor paper and used it as a guide to paint. Interesting I used a maple leaf so long before I knew how I'd fall in love with Canada... ;) watercolor, 1995 I had a cool pic of a painting/sculture piece I did a few years ago.
But I can't find it! Bugger! I'll take pics of more of my artwork and
post it later! Actually, I'ma run off and make more threads!!!

Some colored pencil drawings from when I was like, 10 or 11... No, I have no idea what the Chinese characters mean...I copied them off a box of tea. Hey, I was 10 years old, whaddya want?! Sorry they're dark and blurry...I don't have a scanner, so I just took photos of the drawings.

I just wanted to share the tattoo design I'm working on for my friend Alex. She told me yesterday she wants a tat of some swallows diving on her side, to remind her of all the barn swallows at the gospel sing at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, holding a banner that says "I'll fly away" or "Wave over wave" and she wants it to be very old school nautical sailor style artwork, but still original at the same time. (since everyone and their mother has a tat of a swallow). These images aren't so great, as they're just photos I took with my cell, but you get the idea. So this is the rough sketch I came up with: And here is a fleshed out color design for the lower swallow: The blue parts are actually going to be a deep indigo, but I just colored this with pencil, so I couldn't really get that depth of color. I'll do the final with paint. So, thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? (especially those on making it look more old school classic sailor tattoo art) I'll post more pics as the design progresses.

I like the colours too Manda. I'm not sure how big she want's this tat, but I would do an anchor with the swallows winding the ribbon around it. Just a suggestion. This is my wrist tattoo that I designed myself.

I'm working on my next one, which will be either a celtic cross with salamanders crawling on it and will be on my upper back between my shoulder blades or a celtic ankle band again with the salamanders. Long story on the salamanders. .

Thanks for your compliments, Teddy and Sandy! :)
Teddy, that sounds awesome! I vote for morning glories. I just like them, they grew wild EVERYWHERE over my little backyard in Brooklyn, when I lived in NYC...over the bushes, up the stalky weeds, up the fire escape, even up the walls sometimes. Mostly pink ones, occasionally blue ones, and once in a while, they'd cross and we'd get one brilliant violet one. Sandy, I love your wrist tat! Both the new ideas sound great, the Celtic cross one sounds especially gorgeous. I think you may have told me the salamander story...I vaguely remember an account of the "Salamander Sisters"? Cool idea with the anchor, I'll run it by Alex. Actually, you've given me another idea...she wants to somehow incorporate the Celtic shield knot that Alan wears into the design...I wonder if I could get the banner around that...actually no, I don't think that will work...She wants it to be a very vertical design, not broad across...I think that might be a bit to "busy" anyway...hmmm...any ideas about how to incorporate Alan's knot? Alex thought about having one of the sparrows holding it on a string, but that seems disjointed somehow. Thoughts?

Portrait of The Artist by a Young Man
Sharn's son drew this portrait of my husband last night. We all love it because it looks *exactly* like him!
Check out the avatar. See the resemblance between father and son?

Re: Portrait of The Artist by a Young Man
The Salamander Story... Once upon a long time ago, in a land not so far away, I met some people that I have now been friends with for some seventeen years and then some. About 15 years ago, one of the girls received a pair of salamander earrings for her birthday. We all thought the earrings were very cool so the person who just received the pair, bought the next birthday girl a pair of earrings as well. It kept on going like this until we all had a pair and since then we call ourselves the Salamander Sisters. We might not see each other every day, but we would all give the shirt off our backs for anyone in the group. Two of the girls already have Salamander tattoo's and that's why I'm getting mine in motion too. The End .
