Ok I would've stood in line for tickets just to see THAT, Columbine!

But wouldn't it have been funny to see his reaction if he had been singing? *LOL* Man, I gotta try that trick on one of my buddies sometime...

LOL and that's all that counts right? This reminded me of a funny quote my friend had last night...I mentioned an attractive guy to her, and she said "Go forth and touch butt."Cracked me up for like an hour. *easily amused*

Hey everybody! I know I haven't been around for some time...but I've been busy....and I don't have internet at home right now.....long story... Anyhow, I've been reading over the thread and I've want to add my 2 cents! No surprise.... Anyhow, I'm one of those people who have a painted head on my drum. I bought it that way actually...and have done the odd touch up on it with acrylic paints. The original design was screen-printed onto the head and the ink used chips off easily, even after oiling it down. Acrylic paints tend to have a little more flexibility than most other paints...and can peel off the skin nicely. However, I generally don't recommend painting right across the playing head if you don't want the picture to be ruined or you don't mind touching up the pic. Trust me, after regular playing the picture/design gets rather obscured.... I didn't get my drum because of the picture on it....I got her because she sounded right to me. If she had've been a plain jane drum with the same sound I still would have bought her. As for humidity affecting my drum: My drum is non-tunable, so water and heat are both my friends and my bane. I live in apartment that has hot water heat and surprisingly enough my drum head is doing just fine. However, there are times when my drum skin is so loose that all I get is a horrible *FWUB* sound from it (I do live on the Wet Coast so excessive damp is inevitable!)...so I fire up the oven and hold my drum in front of the open door until she sounds sweet again. Yes, I do have a hair dryer but I'm a fan of applying heat to the entire skin all at the same time...must be a leftover from my SCA Bardic Fire days. I have played on synthetic-headed bodhrans before. The first was a non-tunable and it sucked....whoever installed the head didn't know what they were doing. But at the same drum circle somebody handed me tunable syth-head bodhran....*drool* I would get one if I was playing outside as much as I used to...even after I stopped doing the SCA thing it was quite common for a group of us to hit the local park on a nice day and jam. But none of us have time for that anymore, and we are scattered across the lower mainland now...bummer... My goal at this time is to get my hands on a tuneable natural-skinned bodhran...but that has to wait until after I take care of my more mundane things - concert tix, truck repairs, and bills.....

quote: I've never heard the terms double skin and single skin before, what does that mean?
Yeah, me neither, and I'm curious, too. I did some internet searching, and it seems like a double skin is how it sounds--it has an extra skin attached to the head. Another tip for heating up non-tuneable drums that I saw used in a pub, where no hair dryer was available--hold it up to the nearest, strongest light bulb.

And is the bodhran's name Angel or Spike, Mike? Weird about the double skin...I'll have to hunt one of these down to see what they sound like. Thanks for the reseach Jefe!
