Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

    Here ya go, RamblinRover...

    John Barbour capo on 3
G What ails you my daughter dear // G your eyes are so dim
G have you had any sore sickness // G or yet been sleeping with a man
G I have not had any sore sickness // G but I know what's ailing me
G I thinking of my C own true love
G he plows the C raging sea
G he plows the C raging sea
    G Am C D
be he a lord or a duke or a knight
    G D G
or a man of wealth of fame
    G C
or is he one of my sailor lads
    G C
come tell me now his name
    G Am C D
he is no lord or a duke or knight
    G D G
or a man of wealth and fame
    G C
he is one of your sailor lads
    G C
and john barbour is his name
    G Am C D
now if John Barbour is his name
    G D G
a lowly sailor man is he
    G C
and if John Barbor is his name
    G C
    then hangéd he will be
    G C
    than hanged he will be
    G Am C D
the king he calls his sailors all
    G D G
by one by two by three
    G C
John Barbour was the first he called
    G C
but the last came was he
    G Am C D
when he came a trippin down
    G D G
he was clothed in all in white
    G C
his hair were like the roses red
    G C
and his teeth were ivory brite
    G Am C D
he paid their wages with a smile
    G D G
when John Barbour he did see
    G C
if i was a woman if I were a man
    G C
    then bedfellows we would be
    G Am C D
will you marry my daughter Jane
    G D G
and take her by the hand
    G C
will you come and dine with me
    G C
take charge of all my land
    G Am C D
I will marry your daughter Jane
    G D G
and I'll take her by the hand
    G C
I will come and dine with you
    G C
but to hell with all your lands
    G Am C D
if you can give her one gold piece
    G D G
then I can give her three
    G C
for I am bold John Barbour
    G C
and I plow the raging sea
    G C
    I plow the raging sea
    G C
    I plow the raging sea

I didn't tab this, I had it saved somewhere on my puter...can't remember where I got it...I'm sure Fran probably tabbed it somewhere. Smile So credit to whoever put this together.

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

Here's the basic chord pattern for the song (each chord letter gets two beats except when two are hyphenated, they each get one beat). The chords for the verses are the same as the first half of the chorus, except you repeat them twice.

umm a little confused, when you say each chord letter gets two beats, what does that mean as opposed to one beat?? guitar wise...do i strum on the second beat? ahhh....so confused...gotta take lessons haha...if you can explain this to me anyone, thanks!

Have I missed anyone putting up fiddle tabs here? The only ones I have figured out so far are Fortune and Run Run Away....I could put those up if anyone needs them..

I totally agree with Island_girl! Being one of those people who learned how to read music at a really young age (started piano at 6) I find it really really hard to play by ear. I can finally play most of the chords on the guitar, but strumming is a whole new beast! I don't seem to be terribly coordinated at the whole strumming thing, so any help anyone could give me on any of the songs (especially John Barbour, Come and I Will Sing You, and Graceful and Charming) would be awesome!

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

    Intro for Everything Shines
    d d udu
    --7--7----777------8-------5-----10---------------8--8----888------8-------5-----10---------------7--7----777-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

d d udu This is the strumming pattern for the Intro. The first Two down strokes are not played right together but the up down up is played quicker. Play each set the same as 7
    8
    7

listen to the intro and it'll make it easier

Chords for the rest of the song are G,C,Am,D

    The strumming pattern is dduudu

    d means strum Down
    u means strum Up

I hope its not confusing or i just hope i'm making sense.
    Have a good one.

HAH, I should have gone through this thread before I posted my own separate request. Big Grin

Thanks to all of you who shared chords for "The Old Polina", "The Mermaid", "Tickle Cove Pond", and especially "John Barbour". I've fired these around to my jamming group and I look forward to playing with them!

Re: Chords for The Hard and The Easy

(Damn musicians. My momma told me to stay away from them, and she should know - she married one....) You've gone and done it: you have inspired me to brave the storm of carpal tunnel in my left hand, to drag my neglected guitar out of the guest room closet and plink out a few chords from my favorite GBS album. Curse you. Curse you all! Big Grin

    Thanks for the chords!
