Yeah, PG, I tried that during one of the first songs and it didn't work. But I stayed standing anyhow. Big Grin

Just so you all know, I'm away at a conference this weekend at my university, so I won't be around again until Sunday afternoon. I'm actually there now, but since I have an exam tomorrow I got permission to come to the library to study. But then I realized I neglected to tell all my OKP friends where I was, so I decided to rectify the situation.

Well, I'd better go study now. See you Sunday!

    Re: Stratford Review

Just a follow up to my earlier post. Between playoff hockey and everything else, it's been a busy week. And just think, pre-season soccer (indoor) starts in only 4 weeks!

My son was ecstatic with his drumsticks. You can bet they'll be in for show and tell next week. He also got a guitar pick from Bob and the setlist from Kris. His older brother kept saying "You are so lucky". And he's right.

At the same time though, I can't help but think what these thoughtful acts reveal about GBS. To take the time to notice a devoted little fan is very special. They were all smiling at him and he was thrilled. He loved the show in Fergus last summer(as did the whole family), but nothing will ever top Stratford for him.

You have to realize how much this kid loves the band. He looks at the hands on our kitchen clock and, depending on the time, will say "That looks like Alan Doyle's microphone"(particulary when it's ten thirty or two thirty). Occasionally, it looks like Trevor's microphone from The Arrogant Worms. His kindergarten report card arrived the afternoon of the concert. GBS even made it into his report card because he writes stories and paints pictures about the band.

I can't help but think that music, like great novels and special friends, can transport us. It's universal. For my son, it helped him start to talk. At age two, he said nothing, just smiled. He understood everything but said nothing. Since he was boy number four, I was concerned because the pattern was so different. Some thought that his brothers were doing all the talking for him; however, it ended up that his ears were drowning in fluid that wouldn't drain. Tubes and two years of speech therapy made such a difference. But it was music that gave him the confidence to start talking aloud. With his brothers, he'd happily chant all of the words to Go Boys Go. This song is full of consonants and consonant blends and he'd happily practice away. We'd be out working in the fields in the summer, and they'd all be singing go boys go. He went from no talking at all to belting out all the verses of Mari Mac in about 18 months. Today, you'd never know he was ever silent. As I type this, he's standing at his Tinkertoy microphone, playing his guitar, and singing along to Consequence Free. Kids are a blessing.

So to the boys in the band, a heartfelt thank you. You are gracious and charming. My only hope is that when I teach Hamlet this semester, I don't introduce the kids to Hamlet's best friend, Fellat- oops, I mean Horatio. Just a little joke for those of you at the concert.

    Re: Stratford Review

There was just so much to take in that night, that I keep remembering stuff I didn't remember when I was writing my review. I was thinking today about "come and I will sing you" and it seemed to me that when Bob stepped up to the mike and sang "come and I will sing you" that he was taken aback by what must have been a wall of sound as the crowd of what, 1800 people in a theatre known for its acoustics responded "What will you sing me?" He seemd to take half a step back and the expression on his face was like "WHOA!!""

It amuses me to think that that is why they decided to sing Old Brown's Daughter a cappella in the encore. (the amazing acoustics, I mean) I have noticed from reviews of other shows that they are doing this in other venues, maybe it's cause it worked so well in Stratford. I enjoy the thought that I was a witness to the start of, well, something beautiful*

Aruial & Sharn! What a fabulous experience you both had! Lucky you!

Isn't it wonderful to have such a memory to treasure?!

You truly cannot top a GBS concert experience!

    Cheers!

    Re: Stratford Review

There's only one problem with having such a wonderful time: becoming addicted. I have to resist the temptation to buy more tickets, since I already have tickets to two more shows (London and Montreal). But I recently realized that I could conceivable go to Hamilton on the 8th of March. I checked, and there are still seats available in row D. ROW D!!! But it's on a Wednesday, just like Stratford was and London will be, and I can't afford to miss any more wed. afternoon classes. The evening class isn't as vital, but I can't miss another 3:30 - 5:30 class on Wednesdays, and that wo7uld make it tight getting to Hamilton, even if I could convince my parents to let me use the car. But there's always the possiblity of going to the Kitchener show in May, after school is over...

No! I will resist! I will remain strong! Because I am short on cash! (But I did just start a new job...) No! Resisting! Argh!

Wow, these shows really are habit-forming...

    Re: Stratford Review

Thanks for posting the review. I would've loved to attend that show --what a venue!-- so it's nice to live vicariously through the reviews.

I think it's great how the guys in the band will go out of their way for kids in the audience: making faces, waving, giving them souveniers, etc. Glad to hear they're still at it.

And BeachGirl, welcome to the boards!

    Thanks again for the review!

    Re: Stratford Review

Aruial, I understand the desire to buy more concert tickets. I haven't seen any shows yet, but they hype from all the reviews is getting me a little antsy.

I'm making a road trip to Ann Arbor so I've taken a couple of days off. I have to drive through London to come home so I'm thinking.... well, you know! I still haven't decided yet, because I'm also going to the Kitchener and Mississauga shows so I should try and show a little restraint!

Strangely enough, I'm not going to the Hamilton show and The Hammer is my home town. But like you said, it's on a week night and that's more time off for me.

There are other things I want to do with my vacation days, believe it or not! Razz

I hear ya! (I also read about "post-show blues - didn't know there was actually a name for that!)I'm already lookiing forward to the next show - and I want to bring my girls! I saw them in Winnipeg for the second time and they rocked. Love the theatre venue - small and intimate. It really was like one, big kitchen party!

    Re: Stratford Review

Hello, my name is Laura/Aruial, and I have a GBS Problem. I just can't seem to get enough, and keep on ging back for more...

It's official; I'm addicted. I bought a ticket to Hamilton today. Row B (OMB!!!), seat 12, Stage Sean (I think). You all are a bad influence on me. devil After all, I'm easily led astray...

Now my only issue is transportation. Is there anyone out there who's going from London to Hamilton March 8th and would be willing to give me a ride? I am more than willing to pay fo both gas and dinner. As stated above, the class I can't afford to miss ends at 5:30, but if necessary I could leave as much as an hour before that. Anybody?
I would greatly appreciate it, and would love you forever... loveshower

Oh, and you're welcome Sharn. And this is all your fault. laugh Good luck convincing the DH.

    Hi,
I'm Dominka, fist time poster, long time 'lurker'.
Ok..here's the thing, I just need someone to tell me I'm not completely off my rocker...I read Aruial's post about buying a Hamilton show ticket, and I thought to myself, I REALLY want to be at that show...so what do I do, I go and buy myself a ticket.

The thing is tho, me being on a poor University student budget, I can't exactly afford even 1 ticket, (which I already had for the Mississauga show)...I don't know...I know I'll have a ball...but...

    Re: Stratford Review

By the way its Row D seat 38 (stage Bob-ish i think). Pretty darn good seat...

Oh and when I first went on I got a Row C seat 12, but wanted to see if I could get a closer seat, and ended up loosing it.. Mad

    Re: Stratford Review

So I just went online to Mapquest, and found that Hamilton Place is just one short bus ride away from school...It's strting to seem like fate wants me to go...or it's just me trying to justify spending money I shouldn't be spending...It's probably the later..

Oh and sorry to steal this thread for my own petty topic Razz

I feel so responsible! Red Face Sorry. oops At least now I know that I'm not the only student who is irresponsibly spending money to feed their GBS habit. Maybe we should start a support group. grouphug Wink
