My mom and I used to have a different spin on breakfast parfaits. Diced Strawberries and Blueberries covered with Greek yogurt and ground flax seeds. So good and so filling.

One of our favorite things for breakfast we just call "Breakfast Bake" . It consists of beaten eggs and cheese (staples)with what ever we have leftover!! I like it with ham and cheese/ /spinach,onion,and mushroom/ bacon, sausage and cheese/ even broccoli, onion, and cauliflower. The great thing is after you bake it and eat it for breakfast-the leftovers can be reheated in the microwave for a lunch or a snack!!

I used to date a guy who played the drums - he absolutely loved this one dish that his dad made him for breakfast - called  "Scrambled Dogs"

Hot dogs in scrambled eggs!!           Never tried it, though.

Stone ground grits with bacon drippings is awesome. But finding the stone ground grits is difficult. Again, being in the south, it's full of cholesterol, yet it's absolutely delicious.

Northern variant:  Oatmeal with fresh plum and Greek yogurt!  I do put some Sweet-n-Low in the oatmeal while it's cooking to offset the sour of the yogurt, and also some cinnamon.  You can use normal affordable yogurt too if you want, of course!

    Re: Breakfasts?

I discovered  musli and yogurt while in a Scotland youth hostel of all places. Served cold, it's easy, healthy, filling and budget friendly.

Again, I'm asking a dumb question, but that's how I learn.  I've heard about grits all my life, but I still don't know what they are.  Could someone please educate me?

    Re: Breakfasts?

I stayed at a B&B on Cape Cod last May and the lady served us baked grapefruit with brown sugar.  It was AWESOME.  Nothing I'd think to put together but when I tasted it, there was a party in my mouth!  I never got the official recipe, but I can't imagine it being too hard to recreate.

I'm also a big fan of the European-style breakfast.  Yogurt, granola, fruit.  And don't forget the Nutella and toast!

    Re: Breakfasts?

Black pudding's good, especially when it's spicy, and I'm definitely partial to tomatoes and mushrooms with my eggs.  But the best breakfast I had in England was in Alnwick.  My guidebook said that if I wanted the famous local kippers, I'd have to ask ahead, so I did, not knowing what they were.  The next morning I was presented with an entire, unbelievably delectable smoked fish!  Viking that I am, I enjoyed it immensely, and proceeded to climb castles and photograph everything that wasn't running away too fast until sundown.
