Re: Fortune's Favour Music
Company of Fools
Chorus:
D G D
Bring on the clowns, the
jokers, and buffoons.
G D A D
I’ve had the time of my
life and the life of my times in the
Company of Fools.
D
G D
Many a truest word has
been spoken by the Jester.
G D A
Standing against the
tide is the noblest of gestures.
D
G Bm
It’s the little pearls
of wisdom that tumble from the light
G D A D
That make us laugh until
we cry because we know that they are right.
A
D
Within the strangest
people truth can find the strangest home.
E
A
So meet me in the
village where all we idiots go.
Chorus
D G Bm G
Na-Na-Natimeeutimee Na-Na-Natimeeutimee
D G Bm
A D
Na-Na-Natimeeutimee Natimeeutimee-Na
D
G D
I’m wading through the
quicksand, in the gardens of the gentry.
G D A
Blooming vacuity leaves
minds and pockets empty.
D G Bm
Now in the social order
I accept the bottom rung,
G D A D
Until the wine is
pouring and the Lord commands a song.
A
D
So meet me at the staff
door when the posers all go home.
E A
We’ll gather with the
other Fools and put on a proper show.
Chorus(x2)
D G Bm G
Na-Na-Natimeeutimee Na-Na-Natimeeutimee
D G Bm
A D
Na-Na-Natimeeutimee Natimeeutimee-Na
A
D
So here’s to the Poorest
Poet who always pens the truth,
G D A
And the Players,
Writers, and Gypsies, And The Minstrels and their tunes.
A
D
I’d rather live an
honest lifetime with those with nothing to lose.
G D
G D
Than waste a night, Knee
deep in shite
G D G D
That’s polished slick To
look just right
D A D
I’d rather live a
lifetime In the Company of Fools.
Instrumental break D
D/F# G A (x4
– 2 patterns)
A D
Within the strangest
people truth can find the strangest home.

So meet me in the
village where all we idiots go.

Re: Fortune's Favour Music
I'm still not too sure about the last set of "all I need"s, but this is what I came up with - corrections welcome!
Dream to Live
Capo on 3, play as if in
the key of C, all verse lines are same chord pattern: Eb – Bb – Cm - Ab
Bbsus(1) Ab/Eb9
Bb/D Cm/Eb Cm/F
--X-----------4--------6---------3--------3
---4-----------4--------3---------4--------4
---3-----------3--------3---------5--------5
---3-----------6--------3---------5--------3
---X----------6--------X--------6---------X
---6-----------X-------X--------X--------X
Eb Bb Cm Ab
Set off for America, far across the raging sea.
From the frozen coves of
my island home, to the land of liberty.
I had to leave my girl
behind, until I made my way.
Oh Molly dear, please
wait for me, I’ll come back for you some day.
We landed hard in Boston and I’d never seen the like,
A small boat boy from
around the bay in this sea of shining lights.
Two days in I got a job,
building towers of high steel.
I had to learn to not
look down, and I quickly learned to kneel.
Bbsus(1) Ab/Eb9
And I wonder if this
will ever end.
Bbsus(1) Ab/Eb9
Bb
And I wonder if I’ll
ever see your face again.
Chorus:
Eb Cm
All I need is one good
night’s sleep,
Abmaj7 Bbsus
Bb
In your loving arms to
mend.
Eb
Cm
Sleep to dream and we
Dream to Live.
Abmaj7 Bbsus
Bb
Will I live to love you
again?
I saved every cent I
could but the months turned into years.
Then a letter came from
Molly and confirmed my deepest fears.
She would no longer wait
for me, she’d found a better man.
I might’ve been in America but my heart was broken in Newfoundland.
Chorus
Bridge:
Eb Bb Cm Ab
Eb Bb Cm Ab
All I need, All I need.
Cm Bb/D C Bb/F Cm Bb/D
C Bb/F Cm Bb
All I need, All I need.
My working days are over
now and my children have all grown.
I did the best with what
I had but some days I feel alone.
I often wonder where you
are, do you still know my name?
And deep inside this old
man’s heart there’s a love that still remains.
Chorus(x2)
Cm Bb/D Cm/Eb Cm/F Cm Bb/D Cm/Eb Cm/F
All I need All I need
Cm Bb/D Cm/Eb Cm/F Cm Bb/D Cm/Eb Cm/F Eb
All I need All I need

Re: Fortune's Favour Music
Dance Dance
G C
Friday night, seventeen,
G
C D
Got my hands on the
wheel but my mind is on Jeen.
G C
Her silhouette, I can’t
forget,
F C G
But I’m gonna ask her
yet.
G C
My brother’s truck, my
Sunday slacks.
G
C D
I’ve been working all
week and I’ve got five bucks for gas.
G C
And just for luck, my
grandfather’s flask
F C G
It’s gonna take some
nerve to ask.
Chorus:
C D G
Won’t you dance, dance
with me one more time, one more time.
C G
Dance, dance with me one
more time.
C D G Em
Before the band is done,
before your daddy comes.
C D G
Dance, dance with me one
more time.
G C
She’s the apple of his
eye
G
C D
And there’s no way in
hell he’ll let her out of his sight.
G C
There’ll be trouble,
maybe a fight,
F C G
If he knew what I had in
mind.
Chorus
G G C
Em D (x2)
Oh one more time… (Instrumental)
G C
I see it now, as plain
as day.
G C D
A church and a chaplain
on our wedding day.
G C
Dressed in white she
looks so fine.
F C G
You never know, she just
might.
F C G
I’m gonna have to ask
her tonight.
Chorus(x2)
G
Oh one more time…

Re: Fortune's Favour Music
Wow - you all did a great job. I started at the beginning of this thread when someone couldn't figure out how to copy and paste the lyrics Anne mentioned from the FF link and ended up with everything I was looking for at the end.
Just for future reference (next CD?!?!), you can copy and paste those tiny lyrics and put them into a Word doc by right-clicking and then choosing "Select All." Copy/Paste then adjust to whatever size fits your eyes/age. ;-)
But you guys rock for doing all the typing!
I love this list...

You are correct about c&p-ing the picture file of lyrics, but I needed something I could space-out correctly to print and put the chords in! Thanks to those who did do for me!

Re: Fortune's Favour Music
Another way you can play England in standard tuning is to capo the 3rd fret and play in the key of D. So instead of F, Bb, C, and Gm7, you'd play D, G, A, and Em7. Hope this helps!
MikeB:
For those who don't want to go to Robbie's open tuning for this song, here it is with standard tuning. (Again if I missed anything, let me know - I missed the Gm7 in the instrumental part a few times, thinking it was Bb)
England
Capo on 5, play as if in the key of C
F Bb C
-5-----6----8
-6-----6----5
-5-----7----5
-7-----8----5
-8-----8----7
-X-----X--- 8
Chorus:
F Bb
C F Bb C
We were far from the
shores of England, far from our children and wives.
Bb C F Bb C
To play our hand in the Newfoundland, where the wind cuts like a knife.
Bb C F
We were far from the
shores of England.
F C F Bb C
We shipped on board the
Mary Ann to find a better life,
Bb C F Bb C
And we walked across the
water when she broke up on the ice.
F C F Bb C
We came ashore in
Carbonear with nothing but our rights,
Bb C F Bb C
And I wondered if I e’er
again would see my London
lights.
Chorus
F C F Bb C
We spend our days amid
the waves, working water, hook, and twine.
Bb
C F Bb C
We’d go for weeks with
blistered cheeks, waiting for the sun to shine.
F C F Bb
C
But as long as the sky
hold over us, we will not taste the brine.
Bb C F Bb C
And we’ll curse the cod
with the fear of God as we haul in every line.
Chorus 2:
Bb C F Bb C
We were far from the
shores of England, far from our children and wives.
Bb C F Bb C
To play our hand in the Newfoundland, where the wind cuts like a knife.
Bb C F
We were far from the
shores of England.
F Bb
C F Bb C
We were far from the
shores of England, far from our native soil.
Bb C F Bb C
To chase a wish and to
hunt the fish, and on the rocks to toil.
Bb C F
We were far from the
shores of England.
Instrumental Break F Gm7
C (x2)
F C F Bb C
Should we find Fortune’s
Favour, and be spared from the gale.
Bb C F Bb C
We will live off honest
labor with our hearts as big as sails.
F C F Bb C
If I should die don’t
bury me, or leave me to the sea.
Bb C F Bb C
Send my bones back to my
home where my spirit can be free.
Chorus 2

Re: Fortune's Favour Music
Of course, these are just guides. The best way to play music is with your heart in it, your own way, if you can!
