Fran:No clue I understand very little in the song outside of the 1st verse, "Mari-mac's mother's makin' Mari-mac marry me, my mother's makin' me marry mari-mac" & the part where "people often wonder if it's Mari or her mother or both of them together I am courting". Lost for most of the rest. No clue what's going on in the knife & fork part or the rest of the chorus.
Gonna ge a grand affair, grander than a fair Gonna be a fork and plate for every man that’s there And I’ll be a bugger if I don’t get my share If I don't I'll be very much mistaken’ Mari Mac’s mother’s making Mari Mac marry me (My mother’s making me marry Mari Mac) Gonna marry Mary ‘cause my Mary’s taking care of me We’ll all be feeling merry when I marry Mari Mac I typed it up in a word processor so it wouldn't space funny, but it did anyway. I figured out a lot of the lyrics on my own, and the ones I didn't know I got from the karaoke version ofthe Mari Mac video on GBDVD.
~Squeezy~ Bobby loves me, this I know, because my Seannie tells me so... "Alan's true calling [is] to be a whacko percussionist... to hit things with mallets." ~ Sean McCann

OK, since we have made a slight diversion from purely GBS lyrics, I will add this one to the mix. Everytime a friend of mine hears "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen, I get a phone call. See, this friend of mine, for the longest time, thought that that particular lyric was "Never walk by the ducks" rather than "Another one bites the dust". It's impossible for me to hear that song and not think of my pal, and then chuckle out loud! Makes me smile even as I type this... K.

What is rounder than a ring? And higher than the trees? What is worse than a woman's curse? And what is deeper than the sea? Which bird sing first, which one best? Where does the doofus fall?
In the social order, I accept the bottom rung, until the wine is pouring and the Lord commands a song!

I think "doofus" is a worthy challenge to my "Old-Virgin Whites". I originally thought in Old Black Rum they said "well, I'm here for another day". Chemical Workers Song: My husband says the line is "You look older than you should". I'm not doubting him but try as I may, I just cannot hear that, is it? Regardless, it's much better than mine: "You're the Corpsman and you should" should what?. (I tried Mari-Mac this morning. Even though I still remembered the correct words to the chorus, I cannot get through it. My tongue does not work that way even at it's slowest) Coming Soon (I'm sure you're waiting with bated breath). My Rant and Roar problems and a request for a definition of what I know are correct lyrics.

I used to work in a call center. I tend to have a bit of a "man voice" in the mornings until I've been up and speaking for a while. I live alone, so to counter-act this I made it my ritual to sing along with Mari-Mac every morning on the drive to work. Got my voice back to normal and gave my mouth a workout as well!

By now you must be thinking I need a hearing-aid. Help me out on Rant & Roar. This is what I hear: Farewell & Adieu to ye young maids of Ailin - Old Derrin & Bresk, Foxhole & Brunee - I'm bound for the westward to the wall with the hole in - I can't marry or, Lord, it's yokey I'll be. I must have a good chunk of that wrong! I'm guessing there are place names in there somewhere. Yokey? Maybe I do need a hearing aid. As for Harbour Lecou, I know what "hove" means. Can someone explain "Hove way me chew"?

I'm bound for the westward to the wall with the hole in I can't marry all, or in chokey I'll be Dunno what chokey is. Ah, here it is: Jail. As for Harbour Lecou, I know what "hove" means. Can someone explain "Hove way me chew"?

You're not the only one stumped on that verse of "Rant and Roar"...I have music from Avondale that has lyrics and, but they don't match the GBS version (several versus left out or were combined in the GBS version) even though I look at them, it still doesn't sound like what the b'ys are singing. According to Avondale, the lyrics go: Farewell and adieu to ye girls of St. Kyran's/Oderin and Presque, Crabbes Hole and Brule/I'm bound for the Westward, to the wall with the hole in, For I can't marry all or in the chokey I'd be. If I remember correctly, a "chokey" is a reference to prison? Listening to GBS version it does sound like they sing "Ailin" but I'm biased because my SCA name is "Ailinn" *lol* and they exchanged Crabbes Hole for Fox Hole.
