Re: Create the new GBS T-Shirt Logo!
I figure if it was an OKPer, we'd've heard the joyous cries already. But yeah, I'd like to know whose designs they were. Just be grateful they're not using Hot Topic sizing. I'm medium in normal standards, large for these t-shirts, but at Hot Topic, I have to get a 2X large. Crazy-mad.

Re: Create the new GBS T-Shirt Logo!
The lack of communication on the whole T-shirt contest is bizarro. I think the shade of green is nice too, Columbine. But, I'll be making Ts for us using our own design and preferred T-shirt style, I think - much more age and gender neutral. It definitely suits us anyway.
Xany - Why don't you make a T using your own design? Cheers!

That was my first guess also. CafePress is pretty powerful isn't it. Hey, just think !, even if one doesn't win the contest, you could still upload your design to CafePress and potentially sell thousands of GBS shirts yourself LOL , just add in a "I love" on the shirt also to keep you out of trouble with GBS's lawyers.

Re: Create the new GBS T-Shirt Logo!
Glad you like it too! Nope, not CafePress. I've never heard of that. I'll have to check it out. My husband Adam is a graphic designer/creative director, so he created the submission layout. Basically, he took my design concept (pencil on paper) and whipped it up in Illustrator for submission. We submitted jointly. I think we misunderstood the intent of the contest. Because Adam works in branding, we understand the wording "ultimate GBS logo" differently than it was apparently intended. I think they merely wanted a new T-shirt design versus a GBS logo---ultimate or otherwise. A logo is typically used universally on any and all products and marketing materials as an easily recognizable representation of the brand---like Prince's symbol thingy or Nike's swoosh, etc. When talk of new merch/T-shirts came up a few months ago in one of the
topics...whenever that was...we were discussing making our own T-shirts
using iron-on transfers. That's what I'm considering doing. The bodhran
on the layout above was just a design concept for the submission.
Rock on baby! I was thinking I'd make a T for Adam this summer and one for myself once I am no longer pregnant. If we buy good quality blank Ts they should last years.

I'm gonna make mine too, but I think I'm going to embroider it-It's simple enough that I should be able to magane it with a satin stitch on my machine. (cause I coudn't hand embroider my way out of a wet paper bag with a knife)

Re: Create the new GBS T-Shirt Logo!
CafePress is a really neat site. You sign up for an account. You upload your graphic design. Then their automated graphic systems there, create for you a mockup of all their items they sell with your logo on it. This is done in a few minutes, as it's all computer generated. You then see all of your "virtual products" on your "storefront" on their website. Then, somebody sees your store, but sees what one of your logos would REALLY look like on a T-shirt if they ordered it..... So, in other words, when you go to see any items on their site ( any of their "vendors" ) the items don't actually exist in real life, but you can order any of those items and they are then created when an order is places. You can have a wide array of things, - your logo can appear on : - coffee cups, hats, shirts, etc etc etc..... They take a small percentage of all of your sales, and that's it. What's neat is that you can quickly see how a logo that YOU made will look on a shirt, or a baseball cap, or a coffee mug. You don't get dinged with a huge bill, because none of your stuff really exists, until somebody orders it. They only charge you a percentage of your total sale, once somebody has actually made an order with them. The basic concept is like having a huge printing store that sits there in frozen time until somebody orders something.... it's really a great concept. I have many friends who use this service and have made some nice $ with it.

Re: Create the new GBS T-Shirt Logo!
I don't think the "I GBS" idea would fly because I remember some legalities with using the name Great Big Sea. When the "Friends of Great Big Sea" (regulars on a former incarnation of the OKP) made T-shirts years ago---not-for-profit, just to wear to a show together---management didn't allow them to use the band's name on the shirts. They ended up saying: "Friends of the Large Ocean" or some such thing. Our design is the GBS acronym though...might be able to use that. Don't know. Otherwise, it would have to go black market, which, after submitting the exact design to an official contest with personal contact information included, isn't the world's brightest idea. Not that we ever got any kind of confirmation that it was received.
We'll make ours anyway and have cool one-of-a-kind swag.

Thanks Marie. If you feel brave post yours. I'd love to see it as I'm sure others would. I'm pretty sure you said you submitted a design, didn't you? Cheers!

Re: Create the new GBS T-Shirt Logo!
Ach! That is so the coolest design ever! I'd totally get that shirt. And the bodhran, lol. (Actually, no. Because I will refrain from buying a bodhran, however awesomely cool they may be. I will remember that I have no sense of rhythm and have no business owning a drum of any kind. I will I will I will!) But that design could easily be a fab universal logo for GBS. C'mon, they need one!
Xany - Why don't you make a T using your own design? Cheers! Planning to do just that, actually! I'm not a big fan of CafePress for T-shirts--they're kinda just iron-on quality (or were last I got one), and I can do that myself. But I'm gonna go one better, providing this works. I can't creat logos worth crap (too literal-minded, me. And no sense of design...bad thing for an art student). My "design" (and O! I use the word loosely) was more along the lines of the kind of shirts I tend to wear (usually with characters from whatever show/comic), and like most of my shirts, it's white on black. Iron-ons don't do that too well. So I found a cheap, relatively easy way to do screen printing, and as soon as I'm home for Spring break, my best friend and me are gonna make ourselves shirts for the up coming concert.
Not quite up to snuff with the other designs we've seen, but there it is. I was always wondering--with that GBS bumpersticker...why pink?

Xany - I like that. I don't want the boys (or people of any kind...not puppets either Sharon ) plastered across my bobbing boobarinos, but if that design was printed white on the shoulder of a black tee, I would be holding up the line to get one. Cool. Now YOUR design, minus the band's name, could be sold in CafePress I should think, without any legal difficulties. ...just an idea.

Re: Create the new GBS T-Shirt Logo!
*blush* thanks. I haven't seen that many other designs...I was just referring to Tina's and the three winning designs. Fonts...ah, I hate them so. Comes from having lousy handwriting...I've got no sense with Fonts.

I'm hesitant to post this, since everyone elses rock so much harder, but I mentioned that I thought I could embroider this, and then didn't post it.
