And even if you get an Eric Bogle 5-CD retrospective collection for an insanely good price, do NOT listen to more than 2 of his CDs in a row. And be grateful when it's the screwball song that sticks in your head!

True, I always figured Bob was a man of strong political opinions (well, I hoped he was - I don't trust "milquetoast" people without opinions), I just thought he didn't like them served up with music.

I'm pleasantly surprised about the Steve Earle entry, don't get me wrong. It's just not something I imagined in Bob's collection, that's all.

Music is such a big thing with me. Not to put it too plainly, but it's one of the ways that I judge people when I first meet them - what music do you like and why. LOL! When I find out that people don't have music collections... Well, there's no saving people like that. Razz

Bran - I knew that Erc Bogle wrtoe Waltzing Mathilda, but I still think of it as a Pogues classic - like Snowbird is an Anne Murray classic even though Gene MacLellan wrote it.

Ah, I'm sorry Sandra! Frown *adds ketchup to foot and sticks in mouth* You, I actually just recently started listening to The Pogues (yeah, I don't know how I missed out on them for so long either, I suck), an I was totally taken aback to find the Waltzing Matilda cover, I didn't know many people even knew of that song. It's a beautiful tune eh?

Waltzing Mathilda is a beautiful tune - so moving. I couldn't believe that they left it out on the 'Essential Pogues' CD. When my daughter was younger, I'd sing it to her as a lullaby. Thank goodness she wasn't plagued by nightmares!

She's probably the only kid in her class who knows that the Australians were slaughered at Galipoli. She knows about the Blue Puttees too - courtesy of Bob.

My son is like that. How old is your daughter? Wink

I think "Waltzing Mathilda" is a wrenchingly beautiful song, but I can only bear to listen to it every once in a while. The movie "Galipoli" is the same way for me.
