I didn't get to see it, Center Ice didn't come in with the Montreal feed until the puck dropped. It showed Bob Gainey's ceremony but switched off at 7.

Re: Great Big Hockey Night in Canada
Once again, it had slipped my mind that Toronto is the center of the universe and no one could possibly be interested in anything happening anywhere else. Thanks so much to CBC for reminding me.

Ah. See, I wouldn't have a clue about that.

Re: Great Big Hockey Night in Canada
I was meeting friends for supper. I set VCR for RDS at 6PM so I could catch Gainey's stuff. I ended up at CAge Aux Sports for supper, so I got to watch RDS from there. We finished at the same time as Gainey, so we left (my friends are rather clueless at to who GBS and don't like sports at all). I had decided to set the VCR to switch to CBC at 7PM in case RDS decided not to air the national anthems. SHREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIK!!!!!!!!!!!!! I should have realized there was a reason why the Gazette sports section said CBC was beginning their CANADIENS broadcast at 7:30. Did anyone catch it from any station?

Re: Great Big Hockey Night in Canada
Hockey Night in Canada aired Gainey's number retirement ceremony. His longtime friend gave a speech and said that she and him had danced to Great Big Sea at the 'Metropolis'. They didn't air the anthem. The ceremony was great and had me in tears. I should have listened to my son when he said that the Habs game wouldn't be aired! He thinks that the West gets to see Montreal while we get Toronto. West Coast.. did you get "Oh Canada"?

Re: Great Big Hockey Night in Canada
I was able to receive both the Toronto and Montreal CBC feeds and no O Canada. Maybe RDS was the only network that aired it?

Re: Great Big Hockey Night in Canada
No one got to see the anthems.... plus, CBC at 7:30 splitted in two, I got the Habs on CBC Montreal, and Toronto on the other CBC channels I have. RDS didn't show the B'ys either, plus I missed the Gainy thingy, I thought it was at 7 and I didn't see what was posted here earlier.... oh well....

HoneyintheSea: His longtime friend gave a speech and said that she and him had danced to Great Big Sea at the 'Metropolis'.
So that's what she said. At the bar there was too much yelling and goal sirens going off to hear everything said. I heard something about the Metropolis but couldn't figure out what she was talking about. At least we got a laugh...We told Kaesye about them being at the game and at the beginning of the ceremony, the announcer says he's introducing Bob's family and she started getting all excited "Mommy, Mommy, they're going to show Bob's family!" Wrong Bob, Kiddo! (She's rather disappointed at not seeing the anthems too.)

Re: Great Big Hockey Night in Canada
It is unfair that the anthem wasn't aired when we were all wanting to see the b'ys sing it!! It is too bad the Habs lost while the b'ýs were there. I am sure the anthem was awesome, of course!!

She said more.. something about him orchestrating it!? I didn't tape, so I'm not really sure whether she was saying this about the GBS show, anyways from what I gather he is a fan!

Re: Great Big Hockey Night in Canada
Re-watched what I did manage to tape. His friend was talking about how even after he moved away he still stayed connected to Montreal. He orchestrated getting 50 of his family and friends together at the Metropolis and they danced to 'the Great Big Sea' (must have been hilarious to see a usually reserved Bob Gainey bouncing around). I'm presuming the band was actually playing there at the time, GBS music wouldn't have been on the normal no-band-playing dance music list. Did get to hear a snippit this morning of the CJAD radio broadcast. The anthems ended with the broadcaster snickering "Leave it to Great Big Sea to make the anthems sound like a pub-crawl beer-drinking song".

Re: Great Big Hockey Night in Canada
No video at all on our feed. Had to content myself with logging on to the radio feed off the Hab's website and listening. They picked it up as (couldn't quite tell if it was McCann singing) the U.S. anthem was finishing with "the brave" and then went in to O Canada. C'est la guerre. At least Pascal LeClaire had a night that he'll never forget!
