Bob, so very grateful for your relatively speedy recovery, but PLEASE follow their advice and don't do that again!!  You, sir, are important to us and we need you to take better care of yourself so we can enjoy your talent for as long as you're willing and able to share it with us!!  flower

Bloomin' heck!  The things these guys put themselves through for us doesn't bear thinking about sometimes!    I second previous emotions when I say - Bob, if you ever feel that ill again, you're BANNED from the stage!

I continue to salute Bob's taste in music, as Capercaille are one of my favourite bands. They're totally wicked live!  I had the privelege of sitting in on a fiddle workshop by Charlie McKerron at the Cambridge Folk Festival a few years ago. Magical!

One small thing, though - the singer is actually Karen Matheson (close, but no banana!) and she has some wonderful solo stuff out too.  And ALL of their albums are still available at Amazon UK, with plenty of sound samples on offer Cool

Wow. Talk about courage and patience and grit!

Probably more grit than anything else got you onstage, Bob. Please take care of yourself. We'd like you to be sharing your music for many more years to come.

At least I know this band!~ I have two of their albums. I can thank my son, Nick for introducing me to their music.

Ah, Teddy caught it too. *L* Yes, the lead singer is Karen Matheson, and she's amazing. Such a voice!

Now...holy friggin' shite on toast! Meningitis is nothing to sneer at -- he's damn lucky it got caught in time. Stubborn man. Hope things continue to improve, though.

    Re: NEW FEATURE: Bob's Soundtrack

    Surprise  I am stunned.

I am so glad that Bob got himself to a hospital when he did. That could have been a terrible thing had he not.

I am amazed at his dedication, but concerned that he put "us" before his own health and safety.  Like everyone else said, I'd rather see a show cancelled than to loose a member.

Like Alan and Sean say in the DVD  "What do other bands do; the ones with out Bob?"

    "Those poor Bobless bands"

    "That would definitely SUCK"

And GBS without Bob...I shudder to think of it....just wouldn't be GBS.

Glad to know all is well.

    Re: NEW FEATURE: Bob's Soundtrack

Wow.  It's been six days since Bob's blog entry and this is the first time I've been here to read it!  It must be Christmas.  I've been consumed by the mad rush to get everything done at work and home in time for...  well, for today.  It's Christmas Eve; let the festivities begin!

Bob shouldn't perform sick.  On the other hand, I've been guilty of the same hubris - so have most of us, I bet.  I've never had meningitis before but I have a tendency to always think that I'm not 'that sick' or 'that hurt.'  I'm like that knight in "The Holy Grail" that keeps on insisting 'it's just a flesh wound.'  I don't know what it is that makes us downplay our illness - pride or humility?

I can't imagine being so sick that I can't read.  That's like the ultimate irony - finally having unlimited time to read, because you're in bed sick, but you can't read because you're too sick.  There's a Twilight Zone episode that's kind of like that.

I've never heard of this band but based on Bob's and OKPers recommendations, I'll add them to my 'buy if/when you find' list.

Any number of things - competitiveness, guilt, overpromising oneself so that any slacking off would initiate a cascade of dfficulties, actual pressure from other people (actually quite rare in proportion to the amount of it that's assumed or just feared), or just the cluelessness that comes from being sick or injured in the first place (old survival instincts - just keep going, the mountain lion only injured you!)  It's hard to make good decisions when you're sick enough or badly injured enough to need to change plans.  I know plenty of people who pride themselves on "never getting sick" (i.e. blaming their difficulties on allergies or lack of sleep) and cluck pityingly or even laugh openly at anyone who admits to having such a lousy constitution as to allow germs to break their stride (while, of course, sneezing their own germs all over everyone in the office).  Biology and culture gang up on us to keep us from taking a break when we should.

    Meningitis.  *shudder!*

Well...I feel like shite today, but I'm still at work. Why? Because I honestly don't feel bad enough to stay home, and I need the money. *sigh* Plus I want to use all my vacation days for going to the UK in the spring. *L* How's that for motivation?

When your job's a total waste of who you are as a person, it's hard to envision wasting that precious sick time when you might as well be making money while you feel lousy.  It's like, today's a lose anyway, might as well at least use it to make money, because I don't want to get docked (or lose my job!) if something serious happens and I need to stay home.  It's ridiculous.
