    Re: Prayers for Liam

Miracles happen one step at a time.

    This was a big step.

I can't believe it's been almost 10 months since we heard about this little guy who was so close to not being here. Look how far he's come. Makes one look skyward with tear-filled eyes and just say Thanks.

What a gift this little boy is.

    be safe,

    Good Morning,
Yesterday I tried carrots!! I think I liked them best...I was feeding myself!
Forgot to mention that they weaned my ativan on wednesday...instead of getting it 5 times a day, I'm only getting it 4 times. So far so good with that. I'm also now completely on the Nutramigen.
Attached is a little video of me playing with my "Kick & Play" toy...Daddy and Pop McCormick are there and Mommy's filming. I also have a new website that is just pics and video clips. It's http://www.dropshots.com/liampatrickmcguire
Thank you for your prayers, as always. Have a good weekend!
    Love,
    Liam

    Good Morning,
Well, yesterday, I wasn't feeling so good. I'm teething (they haven't broke through yet)...and they weaned my ativan on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday!! So, I had a fever of 101.3...probably because of the teething but maybe also a little withdraw too. My nurses gave me tylenol, and I was feeling better by dinnertime. I was playing with my kick toy for an hour!! Mommy and Daddy says it looks like I'm doing the jig!
I tried Green Beans on Sunday...yesterday I didn't have any baby food. I'll try Green Beans again today...I didn't think they were so great.
I didn't gain much weight this past week, so they just went up on my volume. I'm now getting 5oz, 7 times a day. I weigh 17lbs 9oz...and I'm about 26in long.
Thank you very much for continuing to pray for me!! PLease say a little prayer for one of my NICUmates, Paige, who gets to go home today after 4months!! And also for a friend, Charlie, who is having surgery today.
    Have a good week!
    Love,
    Liam

    Good Morning,
Yesterday was a better day...I didn't have a fever. BUT, I did have to see the eye doctor, and had to get drops put in my eyes...that was NOT fun, for me or my nurse Heather!! The eye doc says he'd like to see me again in 4months. I'm a little far-sighted, so they just want to keep an "eye" on it.
Tried Green Beans again...definitely do NOT like them....so Mommy let me wash them down with a cherry candy cane.
Thank you for your prayers for my friends...Paige made it home safely and Charlie's surgery went well...he even got to go home the same day!! Another NICUmate, Alex is going home today! PLease pray that he transitions well also!! Oh, and I could always use the prayers...Thank you!!!
    Love,
    Liam

     Liam's Home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    January 23, 2008 at 09:58 AM EST

    GOOD MORNING!!!!
    SURPRISE! WE'RE HOME!!!
The walk to the ambulance and first few monutes of the ride were terrifying for mommy and me, but then I fell asleep.
It was very noisy and bright and cold outside, but it was wonderful coming inside the house.
I LOVE my room and am so happy to be here. It's where I'm meant to be.
Thank you to all my family and friends for helping to make my room beautiful!
Thank you to all my family at CHOP...we'll miss you so much!
We love you! Please keep up the prayers :)
As much as I look forward to meeting you all at some point, I'm going to need some time to get adjusted to my new surroundings. Also, it's still RSV/cold/flu season...so I kindly ask for no visitors for awhile. But, come springtime, I'll be looking forward to meeting my family and friends.
    Love,
    Liam

    Re: Prayers for Liam

I figured t would be soon. I didn't have a chance to post this one:

    January 22, 2008 at 10:43 AM EST

    Good Morning,
My weekend was pretty good...but I had a fever again on Saturday and Monday. So, they did blood and urine cultures on Saturday and a Respiratory culture yesterday. All negative so far, so it could have still been the combination of teething and weaning from the ativan. I've been doing pretty good off the ativan for the most part...but I have been a lot jumpier lately...things have been startling me a little more easily.
Oh, and on Sunday, Mommy had to do an emergency trach change! I couldn't breathe because my trach got pluggged, and Mommy fixed it!
Daddy's beard is really full now! I can really grab hold of it :)
My top right tooth is finally poking through, and my left one is almost there.
Well, have a good day, and thank you for your prayers.
    Love,
    Liam

I think it must have been Kate's ability to do the emergency trach that tipped the scales towards home. Gotta love the smile on her face, doncha?

Tears of joy are falling in Alaska...Liam, may God bless you and your family in this new adventure.  I sooooooooooo know that smile on your Mommy's face!!  I've seen lots of them, and even wore one once when my 3lb 7oz-er finally came home!!  (He's 17 years old now...)

Today is just the beginning of this new adventure, and it won't always be easy, but it WILL always be worth it all!!  And prayers from Alaska won't stop, I promise!!

    Good Morning!
Sorry a little later than usual. Well, I had a really nice day with Mommy and Daddy. I didn't nap much so when I fell asleep at 6pm, I slept until almost 3am! When I saw Mommy I decided to hang out and play til 4:30am. Then, when I woke again...Daddy was there!! It was so great!
I had my first spongebath at home...Mommy and Daddy said they'll give me a "real" bath tomorrow...looking forward to that.
I miss all my friends at CHOP, but having a good time at home.
    I've included some videos.
Thank you for your continued prayers...I will need them. Also, if you could please say a few for a distant relative...a Baby Brendan who is sick, and a NICU friend(Alex) who I saw coming back in as I was leaving. I'd really appreciate it!!
Thanks, I'll be in touch. And for the record...no, Daddy hasn't shaved yet...and Yes, we will keep up the carepage.
    Love,
    Liam

    Re: Prayers for Liam

Absolutely! My SIL, who used to be a NICU (Newborn Intensive Care) nurse was incredulous that he was still alive, considering all that has happened. I had to how her the CarePage and the photos and updates for her to believe it. Apparently he is one of a very small number of children who have lived past 3 months. May he continue to grow and thrive.

    Re: Prayers for Liam

    January 27, 2008 at 01:46 PM EST
    Good Afternoon!
Just wanted to give you a little update. Friday my sleep was disturbed by my night nurse so I woke in a bad mood, and then had a fever. My temp continued to rise, it spiked at 39.2C (102.5F)...and I was having trouble breathing. So, Mommy undressed me, I got some tylenol, and the nurse gave me respiratory treatments of albuterol (helps open up the lungs)...and by the evening I was feeling better. It was a little scary because when we called the doc, they asked if we wanted to come back to CHOP...NO!! We love you guys at CHOP but don't want to see you until our first appt in Februaury!!!
Anyhow, after that I've been back to myself. The doc said this happens alot when babies who've been in the hospital a long time first come home.
So, last night, our night nurse called out...it was just Mommy, Daddy and me...it was great! I slept from 8:30pm til 5:15am!! I don't think Mommy and Daddy slept too much, but it was ok by them...it was nice just being by ourselves.
Please keep up the prayers!! Happy Sunday :)
    Love,
    Liam
