    Re: Favourite Wines...

How much I spend on wine depends on what time of year it is.  In the summer, we drink a lot of wine.  I think (actually, I know ) this is because we entertain out at our camp/cottage/cabin a lot in the summer.  Since we're serving a lot of wine, we tend to stick to bottles in the $10 - 15 range.  In the fall and winter, on the other hand, we're mostly just getting wine for ourselves which dramatically reduces how much wine we buy.  So, over the winter we'll start spending $20 - 25 a bottle.  Although I've shelled out for the occasional bottle of vintage that was $50+, as a general rule, I don't go over $30 for a bottle.

What I've discovered is that, with the exception of a few labels, there's little difference between the cheaper and more expensive wines.  Some cheap wines are absolutely terrible and some cheap wines are quite good.  Ditto with the expensive wines.

I couldn't agree more Sandra - you really can't assume that because you pay more for a bottle of wine, you are going to get a "better" wine.

We had Indian takeout lastnight - you know I watch way too much British TV when I want to call it 'take-away' - so I picked up a bottle of Pelee Island Winery Gewurztraminer.  It's a very nice, light and very fruity white wine that was a perfect match for rich, spicy and brilliant Indian food.  We were on the verge of getting Kingfisher beer but opted for the wine instead.

I picked up riesling lastnight too - The Bend in the River.  I haven't tried it yet but it's also good with Indian food, according to the terribly knowledgeable woman at the LCBO.
