I'm more of a mead drinker but since very few liquor stores or bars even know what mead is, I default to Black & Tans (mixing Guinness with Bass Ale)

I'm sure that when I used to work in a bar (many years ago now) we used to make B&T with half Guinness &then something off the bottle shelf (we weren't a Bass pub, but it had to be some kind of bitter) I have a recfollection of someone mixing it with Whitbread's Gold Label, a barley wine,10.9% That would blow your head off! shocked 2

Mead is the reason I'm off drinking this year - last summer I went camping and after a day which started with a brewery tour (&a free bar after), drinking til closing time in the pub by the campsite &then an impromptu tent party where there was only mead... you can imagine the rest. Ick! I had no recollection of events after entering the tent, tho my friends took great joy in relating the evening's activities. To be honest, I was shocked I could get into such a (dangerous) state and decided to call it a day. (or a year)

Cheek!  I'll have you know I'm older than you. Actually the Ziwiec is a real treat, my Dad was born in the next village

Funny, you look much younger in your profile! Angel Will forgive you your lager predilection, especially as I just found out the Zywiec is 5.7% Well Done!

    Bottoms Up! tounge

I fancy myself a label peeler.......Keith's for me (any Keith's fans will recall this commercial)!!

Question for anyone that might be able to answer:  I went to NS a few years ago and that is where I got introduced to Keiths for the first time.  While I was there, I helped the brewery out by enjoying a few of them (a few too many some might say!).  I also enjoyed a Labatt or two just to keep true to my London roots (there is a Labatts brewery in my hometown of London).  When I purchased my Labatt producted at a pub, I was charged the normal price of any domestic beer, including Keiths.  However, when I order a Keiths here in London (or anywhere else in the province of Ontario for that matter), it is more money because it is considered an "Import" beer.  How the heck can a Canadian made beer be considered an "Import"....it's coming a few provinces across for goodness sake!!  And, why is Labatt products not considered an "Import" product in NS when it is coming from Ontario (and yes I read the Labatt label while I was there to see if it came from London and it did).  Beer

Things that make me go hmmmmmmmmmmm

    Kymbrr Smile

I drank 16 doubles for the price of one!

Perhaps they are calling it "Import" because they don't have their registers programmed for "Premium."  If one were to go to my local hangouts, they could purchase a Domestic (ie:  Blue), Premium (ie:  Keith's) or Import (ie:  Tetley).

Of course my favourite beer is when someone else is buying. Wink

Just to confuse you more Kymbrr, Keith's IPA (India Pale Ale) is brewed by the Oland Brewery in Halifax which is partly owned by Labatt. I guess because Keith's is a regional beer brewed only in NS, the import cost relates to transport costs...? Who knows! The lines between companies are blurring these days beermug ...hic!... Labatt even brews Guinness in Canada, under license.

And, doesn't beer giant Anheuser-Busch own practically everything now...?

Beer with fruit.  shocked 2  Seriously -- wheat beers such as Blue Moon & Leinenkugel's Honeyweiss (Leinie's is a popular Wisconsin beer around the Midwest) because they aren't hops bitter. And they come with fruit.

My husband feels left out. He wants to take part in the favourite beers discussion, from light to dark here we go:

    Stella Artois

    Kronenberg

    Becks

    Pillsner Urquell

    Killkenny

    Cafferty's

(I forgot about the Irish cream ales. I like those too.)

    Boddington's

(Husband interjects: "People are gonna be impressed...trust me." big smiles Wife responds: "People are gonna think you're an alchie...trust me." Smiles)

    New Castle

    Smithwicks

    Guinness

    McEwans

(Husband interjects: "Honey, now you know what to get me for father's day." Then asks: "Are those green bars under your name your 'charisma' levels."  Angel)

When I can find it - Maudite, hands down favorite. However living in Fl., it's rare and you normally have to pay out the wazoo for it.

    Re: What's your favourite beer?

I don't really like Maudite.  I've tried it a few times though because the label depicts an old voyageur tale about a brigade being carried off by the Devil but - try as I might - I just couldn't develop a taste for the beer.  I'm pretty boring when it comes to beer.  My favourite is probably Newcastle Brown Ale.

Truth be told though, my first choice would be wine.  Oh hey!  Is there a favourite wine thread?
