    Re: Hi There :-)

Sorry about the extended absence.....Well where ever should we start eh?

Well I unfortunately currently live in Santa Fe, TX (hellishly hot around 9 months of the year) but am of Nova Scotia heritage and grew up in rural Alberta-All of my family (extended) live within a stones throw of each other (which seems like an oxymoron because they live in NS, where everything is a stones throw away. My parents moved to Alberta after they were married because there were no job opportunites in Nova Scotia.

I grew up with "east coast" music and have loved GBS since the first time I heard them-although my first GBS album purchase was Play which i bought after I moved to Texas (go figure eh?) on a visit home. Since then I have had to bribe all of my relatives to buy supsequent albums and send them to me in the mail-or in this new technological age buy them online, since they are virtually impossible to buy down here at any store.

I do admit though the Texans sure do look at you funny when you play GBS down here! It is very different than home-they just have no idea what good music is eh?

Well my board name is actually my nickname given to me by my parents. If anyone remembers the movie Drop dead Fred? Well I was a bit mischievious growing up and acted quite alot like fred-pants pie and all! So I though it fitting as my board name.

    Re: Hi There :-)

LOVE Drop Dead Fred! Hey, Freddie...got something for ya! LOL!! Big Grin

    Liz

EDIT - actually, on thinking about what I posted above, that's really pretty gross! I sure loved that movie when it came out, but I wonder how I'd feel about it now that I'm...um...more mature (hopefully)?

Also, if you were even a fraction as mischievious as Drop Dead Fred, then your folks must really have had their hands full!

My kids aren't too bad, really, but the 7yo has discovered that if he climbs the cedar trees in front of the house he can get up on the roof!! Eek Oy vey! Give me strength! Roll Eyes

    Re: Hi There :-)

What is it with boys and height??? Why do they need so badly to be UP?? Why do they want their poor long suffering mothers to have heart attacks?? Mine is 5, if there is a way he can be UP he'll get UP. climbs up on the kitchen table just to talk to me. likes to jump off the top bunk. I don't even want to discuss trees. The word "roof" makes my palms sweat. I keep telling him, look just WAIT, you're gonna be at LEAST 6'4" if genetics has anything to do with it, quit CLIMBING. EVERYTHING.

Lightbulb just went off-perhaps thats the inspiration behind a certain album title? a B'ys will be b'ys kind of thing? (and I think it's Bob's tongue BTW) (FWIW, tee hee)

And "when I'm up I can't get down" should be my son's bloody MANTRA. He's GREAT at getting UP, not so good at getting DOWN. (safely, I mean) sheesh!!

    Re: Hi There :-)

    Heloooo there Stitch.
One of my good friends loves Lilo and Stitch too. She has two stitch plushies, the movies and practically everything else movie related. She's in 2nd year uni (just goes to show that Disney movies are NOT just for kids...Silly Rabbit...) What other Disney movies do you like?

Anyway, as for gum, I'd have to say I've been an avid chewer since the age of 2 or so, so I can't say it's a disgusting habit... though I'm not too fond of chewing with your mouth open (gum or anything else).

And if I had a million dollars, I'd spend it on music gear (and I'd set up an home studio in my basement), travelling and I'd give some to my fam and friends.

Now some questions for you: What kind of things do you do in your spare time (besides post on OKP)? If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be? And what's your favourite kind of candy (gearing up for Halloween here:P)

Well I should be off so cheers!

    Re: Hi There :-)

    Hmmm... good questions.

I am a person of varied interests; I love music, drama, good books, and the like. I also like to paint, not pictures, but stuff. I was on a flower pot kick this summer, and this fall I've been doing furniture, including a desk and, my current project, a bookshelf. I like to write, too, and am working on several projects.

Travel... hm... I'd love to see more of Eastern Europe. I've been to Russia, but it would be great to see more of that area of the world. I've never been to Africa at all, so I'd really like to get there someday as well. I love to travel, so basically, I'd go anywhere. Smile

Favourite candy? Um... I like Smarties (the Canadian kind, the chocolate ones) and Aerobars. I'm also fond of anything Cadburys makes. I'm a huge fan of hot chocolate, even in the summer.

As for other Disney movies, I really like The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid. I've only seen The Hunchback of Notre Dame once, but I enjoyed it, especially the music. This isn't really Disney per se, but I also really like Anastasia (although I realize it has little basis in historical reality.)

    Re: Hi There :-)

Whoa-there are smarties that aren't chocolate? There is a difference between american and Canadian Smarties? Come to think of it, I've never seen smarties in the states! Could be there is this huge cross border cultural barrier I had no idea about?? Wow! Tell me, do you have Coffee Crisp in the states? What about butter tarts??

    Re: Hi There :-)

Yes, in the States they have Smarties that are... I don't really know how to describe them. They're like highly compressed artificial fruit-flavoured powder. They're a totally different thing, they just have the same name. I don't know why. All I know is that when I go for a visit, I stock my bags with Canadian Smarties for the poor Americans who are without them (and I think I'm going to start stocking up on shampoo for the return trip. Is it just me, or is shampoo really expensive all of a sudden? Did I somehow fail to notice how much I was paying before, or is The Rock experiencing a shampoo shortage? Somehow I blame this on Sean and Bob growing their hair longer... Wink)

I have no idea if they have the other things in the States. My international candy knowledge is limited. Sorry! Smile

    Re: Hi There :-)

Here's how I've heard the "Smarties in the States" thing described. You know that Smarties (at least the canadian kind) and regular M&Ms are pretty much the same thing, candy coated chocolate. Well, statistically, in the US they eat more M&Ms, anc Canadians prefer Smarties. Which means . . . Canadians are smart and Americans mumble. Big Grin

    Re: Hi There :-)

Awesome! I'm a major chocolate lover as well (and I am likewise surprised that there are smarties that aren't chocolate. What are they made of then?) My jaw nearly dropped as you listed your fave "disney movies" because those are all my faves as well. Especially the Little Mermaid, The Lion King and the non-disney Anastasia!!!! Good taste!!!! And the whole travel thing rings a bell too!!! I went to europe in May this year, but I want to go back. Travelling is absolutely wonderful.
I'm a big music fan, as well as being a musician, so I have to ask, who are your other favourite artists?

    Re: Hi There :-)

Hm... I can't answer that question simply, because my tastes are pretty diverse.

I really like the Newfoundland stuff like the Punters, Masterless Men, Navigators, Irish Descendants, and so on. I just saw Greeley's Reel for the first time this weekend, and they were really good too.

I'm also quite fond of Gaellic Storm, and I'd love to see them in concert one day. I almost got to go one time, but it didn't work out, I just couldn't schedule it.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of the more old school stuff, like Simon and Garfunkel, Beatles, Billy Joel, the Beatles, Don McClean, and so on. I also like U2, The Cranberries, The Corrs (if I'm in the mood; they're right on the border of being too pop sometimes.) Sarah Harmer is great too.

I also like Broadway stuff just a little bit too much. Smile

And this is off the top of my head, of course. I'm sure I'm leaving lots of people and groups out.

    Re: Hi There :-)

The smarties in the states are like Rockets-Those semi-sort of sweet tart things you get at halloween-or that is the kiddies get in their goodie bags

    Re: Hi There :-)

Hmmm...I'm a candy lover, for sure, and I do love Rockets, but I think I'll stick with the chocolate version of Smarties! They win hands down over M&Ms any day!! Smile

    mmmmsmartiesmmmm! Smile

    Re: Hi There :-)

My kiddies are trained to give Mommy some of the rockets they get in their hallowe'en goodie bags. And the caramels.

I agree that smarties beat M&M's but every once in a while the mini M&M's in the tube hit the spot. Was out shopping with my mom one day, and we chanced to espy "new" smarties, with nuts in them-Mom was outraged. She said You just can. not. mess. with smarties! But we bought them. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we ate them. aaaaaaaaaaaaand they were good.

    Re: Hi There :-)

Eclectic taste in music there! Awesome! So are you an American Pie fan? (Song, not movie) I have to say that and Vincent are my favourites by Don. You should hear Josh Groban do his cover of Vincent if you haven't already. It's gorgeous. I haven't heard of most of the other Newfoundland bands you've listed, but I'll keep an ear to the ground for stuff by them. Do you like Phantom of the Opera? That has to be my favourite musical. I saw it live on stage in London in May and it was fantastic! Evita's pretty good too.
