Hmmm--my job also requires quite a bit of patrol. Are there a lot of people in the same profession on this board? Big Grin We should take a poll of professions. There's a thought for a new thread.

    aww, thank you Smile
I made the costume in about a month, during the summer of 2001. The unitard, wig, and original warmers were revamped the next year; I re-knitted yet another version of the warmers, touched up the painting and added a tonne more fluffy, frayed stuff to the shoulders last week.

You can cut it into wedges and steam it, then remove the skin AFTER it's cooked. The flesh is nice mashed or used however you like then. I also roast it, usually after steaming it in the Microwave until it's slighty soft, then like Angie, spray with olive oil and cook until Goldie with slightly crispy bits. If its a Pumpkin with the dark green and orange skin (which we call Kent) we eat the skin as well if it's roasted. I have a VERY yummy and quick recipe for Roast pumpkin soup if you are interested.

    Liz,

Pumpkin over here is like potatoes in the US. IT is always available unlike over there where it is only available this time of the year.

you can get different colours and shapes except the big orange ones that we are use to carving, the ones I miss the most. If I could get those over here I would be not be missing halloween so much. If you walk into to a supermarket you can find them cut for you like a watermelon gets cut.

Hi Mac! I'm an Environmental Patroller for the City of Montreal. Basically, I drive around and make sure the city is clean, garbage is picked up right, etc. I also take care of noise and odor complaints, and I inspect appartments for mold or bad tenants/landlords not cleaning or repairing. I also work with construction inspectors and the fire departement. It's a cool job, because I get to go outside, talk to people and take care of the environment.

Wrestling Preschoolers? LOL! I know what those are. I worked in a preschool for a year. Wink

Oh, it does rock! It was hilarious. Just before the movie started, they asked the "virgins" (first timers) to stand up. And someone went around putting "v" on our foreheads. With a permanent marker! Eek Let's just say I scrubbed my skin raw the next day, so it wouldn't show at work on Monday. Unfortunately, my pics are still in my camera. Old thing, you know, with film in it? Maybe I'll post them someday. They are a bit "risqué" though, with me showing some cleavage. Razz Btw, already thinking about next year's costume. Wink

That would impress. International patches are always a hit. We've got to figure out how to arrange this.... Wink
I'm in grad school at the moment...might lead to a change of profession--not sure. I always intended to be a HS English teacher. When push came to shove, I couldn't find a job doing it though. Thirteen years later, I'm thinking it might be a good thing to go back to. baffled

you can cut it into peices and put it in a casserole dish with butter and spices. or u can get it in a can. (my fave way) hope this helps for next year! (for a recipe , try Joy of Cooking. it has everything.

    Re: Happy halloween

Gosh! Thanks all for the pumpkin cooking ideas! Some of them I'll have to try next year, for sure! I've got 2 rather large pumpkins to cook, but I have to use some of it to try a recipe for Maple Pumpkin Cheese Cake that got sent to me by the local veggie producing co. "Peak of the Market".

My daughter LOVES both Pumpkin Pie and Cheese Cake, and who doesn't love maple flavour?! So I promised her we'd try it. Last time I cooked the pumpkin I froze it in 2 cup measurments in freezer ziplock baggies. Works quite well.

I'd love to try roasting some this time! Mmmmm...I'm hungry! *runs off to find something to eat*

    Re: Happy halloween

Forgot to mention my recipe for pumpkin ice cream. It's really easy to make and just sooooo yummy!

Just mix in 2 cups of pumpkin puree with a whole pint of vanilla ice cream. Add cinnamon and nutmeg to taste. The recipe calls for half a cup of sugar but you can always skip it. Depends on how sweet you want it. You can also add roasted nuts. (But beware of allergies when doing this for parties. I like to split it in two and skip the nuts on one half.) Then line the bottom of a dish with ginger snaps, scoop half of the ice cream on top, put another layer of cookies and fill in with the rest of the ice cream. Freeze overnight or at least for a few hours. Then enjoy!

I have demands for this treat months before pumpkin season. So I do the same as you Liz. I freeze the puree in ziploc bags. So convenient. Big Grin

I cut out a white paper star (without drawing it first, so it looked extra-lopsided), took a piece of clear packing tape and slapped it onto the front of the shirt, used three safety pins and more packing tape to get the red fabric around the brim of my ratty blue baseball cap, and then took the propeller part of one of my cats' toys (which is, naturally, all chewed up) and glued it to the top of the hat. That plus some white socks and a pair of sneakers that were (at some point three years ago) white rounded out the costume.

None of it mattered, though. My friend Vince showed up later on dressed as Cap'n Crunch. Wink

Happy Halloween, if a little late!

Awesome! Anything Strongbad related is automatically cool. I was Batman; can't believe I actually dressed up; not like me at all.
