    Re: Denver!

How odd..... I typed up my belated review and response last night, but it seems as if the post button didn't serve me properly ;^). Anyhow, here goes again. Yes, Helen were were there, seated center directly behind you and your family in rod D. Some may have spotted me in my blue and yellow tye dye Spam shirt. I wished I had more time to get to know y'all here prior to the concert, but life gets busy sometimes and I was happy to have made it to the concert. What an amazing night, the concert delivered everything I'd hoped for and more. My wife Lisa and I were THRILLED with our seats, having never been remotely close at a show before.

I definitely agree, the band seemed to be really in tune with the audience that night, and really enjoying being in Denver, everything just felt very well tied together. Felt almost like being at some small more intimate club venue than at a packed house at the Paramount. I really liked the two set format, was great to have a little break in the middle to cool down, get a drink, etc.

It was definitely a very full night of music, what a diverse selection of tunes, and very well put together! I'd have to say some of the highlights for me were "How did we get from saying I love you", Ordinary Day (the song we walked in to at our wedding reception), Consequence Free, River Driver, Gallows Pole and of course Straight to Hell. I have to admit, their recorded version of Gallows never grabbed me, but I was blown away by the live performance, definitely seemed like Sean overcame the altitude and found his lungs on that one! All in all a great night, I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to see the boys here in Denver!

Hey Mikey! I did see you - I remember seeing the Spam shirt!

It did have a sort of intimate, friendly, party atmosphere didn't it?  What a good time..I hope they don't wait another 2 years before they return.

    Re: Denver!

Anne, many thanks goes to you as well. It was such a special night for me. One that I will not ever forget. Thank you for the kindness, compassion and the humanity that you, Helen, and the boys all showered upon me and my mother. It re-confirms my faith in human kind. You are all very special people.

    Blessings to you,

    Jen

    Re: Denver!

Great reviews all around, so I'll only add on a few comments made by my GBS virgin cousin and his girlfriend throughout the evening.  They'd barely heard a note of music from the band before the show, so I guess a leap of blind faith, eh?

"Man, we pay hundreds of dollars to go see big-name acts and sit in the nosebleeds.  These seats are way better than anything I've had in years!"  (We were in Row 8)

After Process Man, which was song #2 on the hit parade, my cousin asked, "So, which album is this one on??"  I laughed!

"That quiet guy sure plays a lot of different stuff, huh?"

"The lead guy flips his hair--a lot!"

They really enjoyed the acapella songs and, of course, the covers that they recognized--RunRunaway and Gallows Pole.

Overall, I think we have a couple of new fans from Texas now!  He's already shopping around for CDs.

    Re: Denver!

I just had to write a quick note with this thought- my boyfriend and I (and I'm usually a lot more picky than he :) both agreed that not only was the music amazing in Denver with Great Big Sea but the crowd was so friendly, happy, and perfect! I've gone to so many shows where the crowd is just a bit too much, everyone was so wonderful, thanks to you all!

    Re: Denver!

Wlecome Meliss...glad you had such a good time!

It sounds like Alan felt the same way about the Denver crowd:

"Denver has been one of GBS’s biggest US audiences since day one.  Amazing that our progress there has been so quick.  A couple of nights ago we headlined the Paramount Theatre in Denver.  That’s the A Room for sure.  Next stop after that is the Hockey Rink.  Gotta like it.  Thanks to all the Denver folks for filling the more than 1400 seats"

and check out his news for us!

"Hope we can come back to the area in the New Year."

Read more in his latest FTR

Another Denver Show???  WAAAAAA HOOOO!!!!!  I'm still not over Thursday night and now I can aniticipate the possibility of another show coming soon?  I'd heard a rumour about some shows in the west/mid-west after the March 6th Chicago dtae...could it be???

Oh!  Good find, Brian!   I've been looking for local reviews and have come up empty so far.

I'll cross-post this over to the In the Media page so it doesn't get lost in this thread.

    Re: Denver!

Back in New Jersey and it's time to put in my two cents regarding the Denver show. WOW is a good start. The fun started when we joined Helen, her family, and the extended Great Big Sea family at Fado's prior to the concert. The Paramount is a fantastic venue, and a front row seat was an incredible experience. The place just rocked the whole evening long. The crowd was really into every song; there was very little "sitting time".  It would be impossible to hear all my favorite songs in one show (just too, too many) but the selection in Denver was great. I loved the "Tunes" opening to the second half, and while " How Did We Get From Saying I Love You"  always makes me weepy it was wonderful that was chosen as Alan's solo for the night. All the numbers from Fortune's Favour are just incredible live. I've heard a few of the songs at previous concerts and they, like  so many GBS songs, stay with you long after the concert ends. And, like some star struck teen I was thrilled to leave with a copy of the set list with the tape still stuck to it. There was even a fellow  Jerseyite who told me during intermission the Philles had won their Playoff game. Life as a GBS fan is sweet.

    Re: Denver!

I finally got around to posting the torrent of my recording of the Denver show. It is up on Dime here: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=220182 Dime requires an account to access the torrent. Dime limits the number of users, so if you don't have an account keep an eye on their homepage for an open slot. More info is in their FAQ: http://tinyurl.com/rr3ty Enjoy, Brian

    Re: Denver!

Hey all you Denver fans!  I just got Brian's recordings and OH MY GOSH!  They're great!  I am reliving the show this evening, banter and all - 34 tracks!

If you can get this torrent, it is well worth it!  The quality is really clear, low audience noise, clean sound.
