Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
My son, Joey is my Beautiful Thing today. He's 5 1/2 and has been having some behaviour problems at school. This particularly bothers me since i teach right across the hall. Its also a relfection on me as a mother and a teacher, even tho' Joey is responsible for his behaviour. It interferes with my job and my relationshiop with my coworkers and FRIENDS, his teachers. Its already been a tough week. I've been extemely frustrated with him. Today his school pictures came back. His expression was so sweet, so gentle, so happy and so pure. It brought a tear to my eye. That picture captured the Joey i know and love. I fell in love with him all over again, the way a Mom does with their new baby. He IS a Beautiful little soul. This picture helped me to see that beauty in him again, when i needed to see just that.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
This entire fall has been lacking beautiful things for me as far as work is concerned. I have a great home-life, but when I step out that door it's a whole different story. I've been having a lot of negative thoughts about the place and most of the people, however my faith in the people was restored the other day while in line at Tim's. I saw a man ahead of me looking in his rear view mirror and waving. It took a while (he wasn't driving his own car)but I finally recognized him as a guy I work with. I placed my order and pulled up to pick it up and the lady at the window told me there would be no charge because the gentleman ahead of me had paid for my coffee. What a sweetie, it made my day!
Cheers, Mom!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
A month ago I was involved in a pretty bad car accident (our small car versus a big tractor-trailer)....needless to say, the last few weeks have been a struggle. Have been off work, and my entire family (husband and 3 young boys) have been really impacted by mommy's injuries. For weeks now, all the focus has been on me, and despite my appreciation of everyones's concerns, one of the hardest things for me has been watching them get pushed aside during my recovery.
Today, my boss dropped over with a gift for me, but more importantly, she brought stuff for them. She gave them 3 sets of hockey tickets for 3 different hockey games for my husband to take each of the boys to (we are a hockey house to say the least). She also brought a grocery store's worth of kid food for them to feast on for the next little while - she's a saint. If that wasn't enough, a little while later, one of my employees brought over McDonald's and a chocolate cake for the boys for supper which totally made their day.
I got to see them really excited and for a while today, the whole world was not revolving around ME.
That was a beautiful thing.

Helen, hang in there baby! My wee b'y just turned 6 and you may not think that 6 months can make a difference, but they so so so can. As 5 1/2 we were giving serious thought to having him assessed for ADD. He's just grown up so much in the last little while. He's become so much more co-operative and pleasant. One thing that I think has made a big diffence is that he has started taking Karate. It teaches self discipline, and respect, and he has taken to it like a duck to water. HTH!!

Wow, Darci, I hope you continue to heal and get back to normal for your family soon. I heard someone say today "It occurs how good other people are to me" The unexpected kindess of others in a Beautiful Thing.

Helen. Take a deep breath a hold it as long as you can and let it out. I will let you know my opinion not that it counts for anything but it does come from some experience, with kids and schools and teachers and ADHD. I do not believe your son's behaviour is a reflection of you as a parent at all. I believe the personality of the child makes all the difference. I have the perfect example. I have three children I parent all of them the same. My oldest son is a wonderfully behaved child in school and is very disciplined and has been since I can remember, even as a baby ( but has gotten into his share of trouble outside of school). My two younger children are a little different they are very "naughty" for lack of a better word. My daughter (the youngest) was suspended from Kindergarten, yes that is correct KINDERGARTEN. Her behavior has improved somewhat but my middle son could care less about school. He was diagnosed with ADHD in 3rd grade. Together they would cause problems to get kicked off the bus cause they hated riding the bus, from the time my daughter was in Kindergarten. Don't worry it isn't you, it is the child. Dislike the behavior not the child Oh and mine are all beautiful and the most wonderful things in my life and I miss them every day. Angie

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
Well my something beautiful came from work again today. The BIG CHEESE is about to retire. Not that it's a good thing, I'm going to miss him. I've admired him for a long time because even though his daddy started the business, he didn't rush right into it after university, he followed his heart and played football instead. In fact he played for the Edmonton Eskimos, back in his day and has 5 Grey Cup rings to show for it. Anyhoo, the company is having a big send off for him, oh I guess he is having a big send off for himself! Hahaha. The invites are for the big wigs and then they invited employees with 25 years or more of service. My boss handed me the envelope and I tried to give it back reminding him I haven't worked there that long so it must be a mistake. Turns out there were a few "exceptions" to that and I was one of them. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to a company function! What should I wear???!!!!!

Nothing beautiful today (but it's still early), but I'm pretty sure there'll be something tomorrow when I order my tickets to the show at Town Hall, NYC. So help me, nothing is keeping me from going this time.

Ah TJ!
You gotta have the right addytood as we say here in Philly.
Do you have a place to sleep? Do you have food? Did someone hold a door for you? Let you in traffic? I can always find SOMETHING beautiful.
Today's SB* was getting my car fixed. The door's been not closing right all week. It does now.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
OK, just very quickly because it is waaaay late & the kids are not in bed yet. I don't know if there's a bad moon on the rise in the near future, but the kids were just bouncing off the friggin walls today! The 4yo is having the worst time, and is finding it hard not to just screetch and yell when things aren't going his way. Needless to say, the little darlin' was soon put in a time out. After the allotted time had passed, I went in to talk to him about it. We were having our talk, and he was explaining that he was "just sooo mad!", and it didn't matter what I said, he was "just sooo mad!". Finaly he couldn't think of what else to say, but he was obviously still really mad so he says "And don't ever talk to my monkey socks!" Well, I just about peed my pants I laughed so hard! He couldn't help but laugh as well, and we just sat there and laughed for a bit, then had a nice cuddle, and he was much better after that! And I'm still thinking "what the...?!" Liz

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
Liz- Your four year old and my three year (and eleven months) should get together....I nearly died when I read about the monkey socks. We don't have monkey socks, but we do have monkey pods around the house. I never know where they are, and often trespass where I'm not supposed to go. We too are in the frustrated, "I'm so mad," phase. I think her feelings are just too big for her vocabulary sometimes. Thanks for brightening my day! Sue

Well, as posted on the previous page, my Something Beautiful is that my sweetie is coming from Australia to spend Christmas here with me in cold Canada, eh! I can't wait for her to be here, it's the first time that I really want it to snow!

I have to post something because this was such a crappy day trying to get tickets.... I sang a really great harmony line with my worship group at rehearsal today. That was nice.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?
I took my 13 yr old son to his first concert tonight. It was Carbon Leaf. He likes Rap but he was willing to go for the sake of just wanting to go to a concert! We got there early to buy tickets at the door. It was windy and very cold. The wind blew the door open ~ the guy sorting shirts at the merch table looked up and motioned us inside. It was Barry Privett. True to form he didn't say much. "mumle...mumble....out of the wind?" "I'm waiting for the box office to open. Do you think its ok?" I asked (this cracked me up)Barry: "Ummm, I'm with the band, its up to the theater. But I don't mind." (of course you're with the band!!!!)So Chris and i hung out unobtrusively in the lobby. The others were doing sound check. Terry sees us and waves from the stage. A few minutes later he came out and we talked for a while. (Terry and I have met lots of times, he's like a friend sort-of!) He told us to "come on in" motioning to the theater area "we're gonna do some songs"...walks off "after I yell a Barry!" So anyway, my son and I were treated to our own private Carbon Leaf Show tonight! About 5 or 6 songs, and bits and pieces of stuff, and all the banter and stuff of sound checks. Then of course, when the doors opened, we were already there inside, hanging out! Tickets? Didn't need them. Sweet! Naturally, the show totally ROCKED! They did so much great material! Carter can just makes that guitar SOAR! i WISH they'd open for Great Big Sea again! My two favorite bands! OH, and Terry said he just downloaded The Hard and The Easy on his ipod yesterday, and he said "its different, but its catchy, I like it" (or something like that) Chris got to meet "ROCK STARS" at his first concert! How cool is that for a kid's first concert experience. So tonight, my Beautiful* Things are Baryy Privett, Terry Clark, Carter, Jordan, and Scott of Carbon Leaf, for making my son's first concert so memorable! Oh, another couple Beautiful* Things are my tickets to Portland and Seattle that I managed to get today!!!! SQUEEEEEEE! Its been a GOOD DAY
