Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

The venue has a minimum ticket charge regardless of who the act is. I imagine GBS could have decided they wanted to charge $200 if they wanted but I doubt the venue would have allowed ticket prices below a certain amount. That is what I mean by it not being the band's fault, they can't choose to charge only $40.

It's sad that because of it there were so many empty seats, but now they know not to get themselves booked in there again. You'll find more people in Toronto willing to pay that much than Edmonton.

Well friends of mine saw M.C. Hammer (yes you just read that lol) for 20 bucks... So I call BS on that one... :)

Tickets for Live are going on sale this week and I'll be interested to see what they charge for them...

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

My experience is that "One off shows" are always more expensive than multiple date shows (in the same country, with the same equipment).  The Casino will also have a set ticket price that is charged...there are appearances to keep up!  Ticket prices vary so much these days...here in Ottawa in the next month I could see The Foo Fighters, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Def Leppard-REO Speedwagon-Styx (triple bill), and the Police and pay anywhere from $55 - $255 for the exact same seat in the venue!  Much of the ticket cost is determined by the promoter and the venue.

All you can do is be happy to have seen them and had an enjoyable evening!

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

If I had the money, I'd pay whatever they were charging. I love them. I love their show. I hope to see as many as possible before I kick the bucket.

We paid a few thousand to see them last January and will do so again if they cruise with BNL. The boat was relaxing and nice but it wasn't the reason I was there.

I wouldn't pay $30 to see some of the other bands you named Labradorian. Some bands I don't feel the need to experience live.

Going to check out your pics now. Thanks for posting them!

Picture Nazi's for sure... lol... I didn't even bother to take my camera out of my purse... Nice pics...

Tix prices... well last Edmonton show was FREE... ya steep this time round... but heck I'll pay to see them...

I loved the show a usual... front row Murray is an excellent place to be... I mean Murray was RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!! you knew it was going to be a good show when the wine glasses and corona's came out before the boys even got on stage... lol... part of the set up!!!

They were in fine spirits that was for sure... Sean was really dancey... and seems he is every "Alberta" date... Bob well was in fine form... as always... Alan was very happy and a few times cuz he was laughing so hard had to restart verses... over and over and over again... We got Danny Boy... and as much as I don't care for that song... when it is just the Shanty man... up on stage belting and I mean belting it out .. it is amazing... then he comes down from the stage to go on the speakers and just sits there singing... very nice... very well done... We got Clearest Indication which surprised me a little... I have not heard that song in awhile... as part of the first encore... along with Murray coming on stage with the WHOLE bottle of wine... drinking it right out of the bottle... lol... I just have to say... TONIGHT is my fave song off the new album... I LOVE IT... and Walk on the Moon... They didn't do Straight from Hell and well that song I think is gonna take me some time to get use to... there is always some funny banter...  Mari Mac was one of the bes Mari Macs I have ever heard... We sang them Happy Birthday... had a sociable with that... it was great... really really great... The new CD is coming out in June and set for it to be the 24th... they will do summer festivals and start the tour in the Fall... Excellent news... and they said they will be EVERYWERE for the new tour... =) which is fab news... for everyone!!!

Chatted with Murray after the gig...

I loved the show a usual... front row Murray is an excellent place to be... I mean Murray was RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!!

Personally, I much prefer the view from "Bob-Side" and always sit there ;)

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

Yes I agree... anywere really front row is the place to be...

I forgot to mention... it all started with Alan saying something about dancing... and it was not the first time he was on the dance floor and Sean was like... you should be on Dancing with the Stars and Alan laughed of course and said... something along the lines while "showing us" the Kodiak Petty Harbour two step... fack that was funny... and Alan showed us indeed... it was a priceless moment really... funny indeed... there was indeed some arse wiggling from both Alan and Sean... was not the first time they were on the dance floor... another moment I think it was in Luckey's Boat... were Alan was laughing and didn't start singing the verse on time... cuz he was laughing and Sean was like Alan Doyle ladies and gentelmen... was a grand time... I must say... they are truly an amazing band live... the banter/funnies/laughing/muck ups... they do it well... they are a "real" band... not some made up persona... just real live... REAL music... it's all good... can't wait for summer... =)

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

Enjoyed the show as always.  I bought thru ticketmaster and was row 9, right in front of Alan.  When the show started and no-one showed up in row 8 we moved front and centre in that row and had no one in front of us for 2 more rows. It was a great way to see the show.  You caught everything that was happening on stage, plus we could see the screens and got lovely close-ups of all the boys.  I was disappointed to see so many empty seats, and a bit confused. I checked ticketmaster last Thurs. and they didn't have anymore assigned seatting left, just general admission. So I dont know why so many seats were left available - maybe promotions that didn't get used?

I wont complain about cost - b/c we essentially got our tickets paid for. Good thing about GBS at the casino - playing the slots before the show. My friend won $351 after putting in only $5, so our evening was paid for by the casino - drinks, diner, show and swag. It was a nice bonus.

The show was great fun - they were all in a festive mood.  with plenty of wine flowing, and dancing. I dont think I've ever seen Alan's hips wiggle that much.  He did a lot of silly guitar moves - apparently he spent a little too much time playing guitar hero the night before. On a few occasions he did have to stop/start parts of songs b/c of giggling, especially during Excursion - I think it took him 3 or 4 tries before he could get the words out.

No set list, but I recall: Donkey Riding, Tonight, When I'm up, Walk on the Moon, When I am King (not the smoothest of starts to this one), Charlie Horse, Excusion, Scolding Wife, Helmethead, Odinary Day, Run Runaway - Alan's intro was about how late Oiler games are on in NFLD (he noted it was currently 12:30 at home) but sometimes in the 1st period, or sometimes in the 2nd period, and sometimes in the 3rd period you will hear this song playing. Old Black Rum, Clearest Indication (a really nice surprise), Sea of No Cares - living room version, Danny Boy - Sean only sings it on St. Paddy's day, Paddy Murphy, Mari Mac, Fortune. Lots of discussion about Alan dancing - and going on Dancing w/ the stars. They somehow managed to reference a bunch of reality shows in that 1 discussion. Also much discussion about how they celebrated St. Paddy's day as the GBS birthday - and this year is 15 years. So of course we all sang them Happy Birthday.

Alan and Bob did a couple of interviews on CFRN and CityTV. My sister taped CFRN for me - Bob talked about it being 15th birthday and the celebration that would be happening that evening, and Alan made a comment about kissing, but I missed that. And Alan talked about how great Edmonton is to come play music in - how some cities aren't that way, how they have always gotten a great reception here.  The CityTV interview was I guess pretty much the same, my friend caught it and relayed the info to me.

Not the best GBS show I've seen, but not the worst either. I dont think the event tent is quite the right venue for them.  But I've always wanted to see them on St. Paddy's day, so that is now checked off my list. Next goal - to see them in NFLD.

    D:)

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

Well I myself had a wonderful time last night at the concert.  It was a wonderful time and a great atmosphere, I was even lucky enough to win my supper at the Casino.  Yea $50.00!!  Anyways.... back to the show, Mom and I saw Bob and Alan before the concert, shook their hands.  Alan said he loved all the Green I was wearing!!  Of course though it was a St. Paddy's party before they went of to Sound Check right after they did their interview for whatever.  CITY TV I believe.

My only concern was when I went to Will Call the tickets were not there for Fan Club members, lucky most of us had our confirmations so we were able to get the tickets assigned.  I was very happy with my tickets and my seats.  Row 1 seats 23 and 24 right infront of Alan.  It was great.  The music and preformance was great, I did find it a little short.  Kind of wanting more!!  And generally I am exhausted but I felt it was a little short.  As for me I don't care how much I pay.  I feel that they are excellant preformers and I will pay whatever it is to see them.  This is my fifth concerts since 2003.  And I have paid different amounts of money with one being Free, one a whole festival in Grande Praire, it doesn't matter.  They are that good.

I did find the sound was a little HARSH last night, I don't know if it was the speakers or what, not the band but the speakers.  The boys were funny and had me laughing.  Loved the Bottle of Wine Murray brought out during the encores that was great. Another hightlight were the two new songs, they were great.  My favourite song though would have been Sea of No Cares, I have heard it done a couple times that way, but it just sounds so pretty and simple!  I also enjoyed Danny Boy by Shawn it was wonderful.  I also love it when they start with Donkey Riding!!  I however, as usual got sad when I heard Ordinary day, one of my favourite songs, but then I know it's ending!  It was cool also for all of us to sing Happy Birthday to the Band as this is their fifteen anniversary.  I got some pictures, not sure how good they are before they came and gave me CRAP.... Opps... didn't know, it didn't say anything on the ticket or anywhere around, it did say no Video or Recorder.  I will post some pictures shortly by the Weekend.  I think I got maybe five or six.

Anyways it was a wonderful evening as usual!!  I don't care about the venue, the price, about the location whatever, I love to watch them, as long as I can drive...  I will definetly go.  I think we are very lucky in Alberta (Edmonton) area, The boys seem to come here quite a bit and it is great.

Lisa... I thought that was you but I wasn't sure, Im not really a snob!!!  Sorry for not coming over and saying hi

Have a great Day Everyone.... Hope to see everyone in the Fall/Winter....Also June 24 new Album.  I am so pumped

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

Sounds like a great night!  Was there an opening act?  I'm trying to figure out who has been opening lately, so that I can figure out who might open for them in Toronto.  Anyone have any guesses?  Thanks.

Re: St. Patty's Day show in Edmonton

I agree... I was shocked to pay 52$ to see them last year. And last week? SAME venue, Ron Hynes, Canadian LEGEND... 24.50$.

I think GBS pick their own prices. It's not a venue minimum.

$52 as opposed to $25 makes semse. GBS is a 5-piece group with lighting and sound guys as well as a stage manager. Gotta pay all those people.
