My SB* actually happened on Sunday, but i'm still thinking about it.

I talked my BFF into going to see 'The Time Traveler's Wife' with me and she went, even though she'd seen it already. What a beautiful movie! I'm not a TV person, I can't sit through most movies, but this one was fabulous. If you've been thinking about going, I highly recommend it. Absolutley beautiful story, and the acting was amazing.

I made some progress with the class. We actually got thru the morning with no major meltdowns! Now if we could just do the same at lunch...the year would be fantastic. They worked hard today and seemed to enjoy it.

Meeting someone who seems so willing to help my daughter with her business. Beautiful indeed.

A fresh dusting of snow on the summit of Pike's Peak this morning - lit up by the sunrise.

And a new, very shy little girl in my class, not quite 5 yet, who told me "My baby (toy) dinosaur only lets nice people pet her, and she said you could pet her if you wanted to"

My beautiful* thing for today is Facebook messages from my friend Alyssa. She's away at university, and she's been telling me about her adventures. She's having loads of fun and enjoying everything she can. I haven't seen her since we graduated over a year ago, but she's the sweetest, most good-natured person I know. I wish the world had more people like her in it. heart

On the way back from the Garden Club plant sale, I stopped by a yard sale that offered, among other things, the bulb horn from a model T.  Being the person I am, of course I tried to honk it.  Being from a Model T, the rubber bulb disintegrated. Embarrassed  So I went to pay for it (she was only asking $25) and she only took $20 and insisted that I take something, and suggested that I consider one of her vintage cast iron trivets.  So now I have a pretty curly-roots-tree trivet.  I hope she finds a replacement bulb for the horn.  I invoke the Spirits of Honk to bring her a new rubber bulb for her Model T horn, so mote it be!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

After chantey singing at the USS Constitution Museum this afternoon, I finally got to River Sing this year!  It's a big social-singing event on the bank of the Charles.  They set up a stage and hand out lyric sheets, and sing songs mostly about rivers.  There was a really sweet one, new this year and written in honor of the Charles herself, as well as lots of old favorites like Down By the Riverside and a bunch I'd never heard before.  There were a few short readings of prose and poetry about rivers, a gorgeous sunset (and a perfectly-timed flight of geese to go with one of the readings), and then a boat with a big golden sun on the front and lots of lights came down the river, and a clarinetist onboard traded solos with the crowd singing on shore, then the boat turned around and left, showing us a big silver crescent moon.  I was with my new friend Rhys (Reese? Didn't ask her for the spelling) and her adorable Corgihuahua Lexi, and ran into a bunch of other friends too.  A few of us proceeded to a Chinese restaurant for a tasty dinner before heading home.

I am going to mention "Something Beautiful" that happened to me yesterday.  I am only going off-message this little bit, because I did not have access to a computer or this website to mention the occurence until today.

I went to my first ever Great Big Sea concert in Sault Sainte Maie, Ontario last night!!!

My somthing beautiful happened on Thursday, the first day of Choir for the new quarter. (We're butchering six languages this quarter, I'm dubious) Anyhow during our break a few friends an i broke into our rendition of Lewis Carrol's "Jabberwocky" sung to the tune of "Greensleeves". A freshman joined in and added a beautiful baseline to our mostly Alto/Tenor song. Twas Awesome. More awesome however was after class when I heard him singing "I Tell Me Ma" while walking out. Conversation ensued and it turns out the guy is an avid GBS fan and we belted "Ordinary Day" and "Old Black Rum" all the way to the bus stop. He also asked me to go to the Pogues show with him in Seattle on Friday. I have a date! Wish me luck Wink

    Peace, Love, and GBS,

    Loula

My something beautiful is that I have been quite poorly of late (had to have an emergency surgery) but I'm starting to feel better & am healing up!  Bounce

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Glad to hear you're healing up! My Something Beautiful is a young man in my class - JT. JT struggles mightily with reading but has an awesome listening ability, sings beautifully and always asks for help when he needs it. Reading at a first grade level to tough when you're in fifth grade and he goes to special class foir 2 hours a day. But I asked them all to go home and write at least 5 paragraphs the other night. The story he wrote was amazing! He spelled, of course, like a first grader, but I sat with him after class today and rewrote it correctly for him to copy on his good paper. What an exciting story, and he managed to use some of our fifth grade vocabulary words in his revision! Both of us were so proud! He is a treasure, this one. I hope at some point, reading comes together for him, because he surely has a lot to offer the world. JT is something beautiful.
