Cool!  I watched Ordinary Day and Sister Rosa Parks.  They take a long time to download, but they're great performances.  Those kids do indeed rock!

I finally had some to time to watch most of these.  It is absolutely amazing what you do for these kids, Anne.  They are fantastic!  To hear a GBS song performed by a group of inner city elementary kids is indeed something beautiful.  Thanks for sharing.

I was blessed with this group of kids this past year. They certainly rock in more ways than this. Thanks for watching and commenting.

My SB* today is news that my son Nick lowered his blood pressure down to 126/76 from 186/120 by diet alone. He had pulmonic stenosis when he was a kid and had a double angioplasty and stent at the age of 15. They thought it was because of that. But it wasn't. Then they tested for kidney problems, but it wasn't that either. He has been vegan since age 14 so too much meat was not the problem. Medicine doesn't act the way it's supposed to in his body so the doctors worked with him on tweaking his vegan diet to see what that would do. A year and a half has done wonders for his helath it would seem. I was surprised, as he's been jobless for a while and has all those medical bills now (no insurance) and that is stressing him a bit. But, go Nick!

Great news about Nick.  Having your health is such a blessing.  The no insurance sucks; we found a short option policy for Emma when she was kicked off of Tom's insurance when she dropped out of college.  It's only good for a year; I worry what will happen after that, and it doesn't cover her bipolar meds (no pre-existing).  She is working but no benefits.  One day at a time.......  Just the fact that she has held down this job for over 2 months now is something beautiful - and they have already given her a raise.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Didn't happen today, but this weekend I was given an extremely high honour and was gifted with a hand drum from the First Nations community I was visiting.  This is an extremely high honour in their culture, and especially when paired with the fact that they had paid for all my expenses that weekend too.

Now all I want to do is learn the beats to the GBS songs in which Sean plays his hand drum, and play along.

    Wow!  That is extremely cool.

It reminds me a little of Something Cute that happened to me a couple weeks ago.  We were out for dinner at an Ethiopian place for a friend's birthday.  Somebody clued the staff in, and they brought her a piece of baklava with a candle, and sang Happy Birthday accompanied by hand drum and rattles.

Today's SB* for me was actually going to work - I'd been 4 days without paid work and was starting to wig out!  I did enjoy my visits to the zoo and to George's Island, but today was just the right day to get back into the air conditioning and the orthopedic surgery jargon.

I haven't posted much in a while. Been popping in and out to kinda keep up with stuff. But now, I have to post my something beautiful for Aug. 2, 2009. We welcomed Logan Brian John into this world. He surprised us a little by coming 3 weeks early. We are now at home getting some much needed rest after a pretty tiring week. Life's a little more exciting at our house now. Just still a little stiff and sore from the c-section, but Logan is so worth all of the discomfort.

Not as deep as a bunch of what gets posted in here but hey it was beautiful to me:

Found a place that sells sorbet in hollowed out fruit and had a pina coloda one and it was well.... beautiful

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

DOuble post - so shoot me!

My Something Beautiful is the hour-long phone conversation with my first born, about whether I thought he was ready to be a father or not. He's been ready for so long! When I saw how he dealt with his girlfriend's 5 year old this summer, my heart just melted. He will be an excellent father! I'd like him to be married first, but that's icing on the cake at this point. I hope they get pregnant soon. My only granddaughter is 10. I think I'm ready for another.

who knows she's not supposed to have favorites, but he's my first and will always be my favorite.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Hi folks, been lurking but not talking.  Andi is my SB* today, for inviting me on an adventure to go see (and meet, apparently) the Barras in New Hampshire on December 4th, 3 days before my birthday!  What a wonderful way to spend one's birthday weekend!  Really gives me something to look forward to, other than GBS in Tarrytown on October 10th!

Cheers to all, and thanks Andi!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

I just sent off a job application via e-mail. Literally 5mins later the company calls and now I have a job interview tomorrow.

Okay it's a part-time job as a nurse. I didn't really want to work as a nurse anymore but well, I'd rather have €350 extra per month and work in a hospital than not have that money. :D

Wish me luck that I get the job. If I do I can start working on the weekend already. :)
