Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My son Marcus is my Someting Beautiful today. He called me all the way from Portland, Oregon - just because. He's my first and I know we're not supposed to have favorites, but...he was the first and will always hold a special spot in my heart.

Oh, and for the "old heads" in here, Fred (US Navy Sailor) is still alive and well in Potland. Marcus was returning something to REI when the clerk said, "Do you have relatives in Philadelphia?" Marcus answered in the affirmative and the clerk asked if he had a relative who was a Great Big Sea fan. When Marcus answered yes again, Fred introduced himself and told about our meet and greet on the West Coast. Read about it here if you are curious.

You never know where you will meet a GBS fan, do you! Know I can ask Fred to keep an eye on him! LOL! Always a Mom.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My Something Beautiful* was my Outdoor Ed classes' camping trip.

On the second night we made a huge bonfire on a rock beside the lake. We all sat around it and talked and joked, and 2 guys had brought there guitars so they where playing them too. at one point one of the guys started taking requests on what to play, so i asked him if he knew any great big sea. to my surprise, he did. He played sea of no cares, and about 4 of us sang along to it. I was great....being out in the middle of nowhere, sitting around a fire with your friends, playing the guiatr and singing, listening to the water lap on the shore.

I was so happy I could have burst.

Wow...forgetmenot, that sounds just lovely! I am jealous, amd wish I were there!

However, I can not complain about my day.  I had a lesson plan for Kindergarten today.   It went incredibly well, so much learning going on while the kids and I were having so much fun - and everything that could happen in addition to supplement and support the lesson occured as if it were planned!  I was an incrediblly successful day!  I couldn't have planned it better!  The Karmic Wheel put everything in place at  just the right time.  The Universe Smiled On Me and my class!

Then tonight I took my family out to dinner at our favorite local Mexican resturaunt, and there were some Marriachi singers with guitars there.  They were delightful, and sang two songs at our table.  Joey was just smiling and loving it, so were John and I.  i don't care where the cultural roots of good music come from, I am a sucker for good guitar and rich harmony!

    What a Great Day!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Today is the first day of a 3 day weekend for me, so I get to come to the library and spend an hour catching up with all of you.  That's "Something Beautiful" for sure.

And tonight I'm going to see "music and dance of Ireland" with my 2 bestest buds.

My cat hugged me today.  She's 10years and truly a marvel as she survived horrible abuse before I found her in  a tree.  She was only 2 months old.  Every day with Maureen is Beautiful.

    Congratulations, Sarah!

We've had a warm wet Indian Summer.

I had a really rough day yesterday.

My kids picked a boquet of Spring Wildflowers - on the last day of Summer - to cheer me up!

looking on the bright side of Global Warming!

We had Chantey Sing at the USS Constitution Museum today.  It's a beautiful sunny day, and we had a great turnout.  I sang Money Alone and everybody liked it.  Old Ironsides is looking great - pray her namesake holds up as well!

I woke up feeling drab, the day was dull and lifeless,

    everything was gray and dreary

Then i looked up and saw a laughing face in the clouds, i smiled to myself and felt the wind on my skin

I ask you are you not gifted to be alive, even if you have had a crap and icky day!!!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

    Sarah, that's awesome!!!

My SB* today was crossing an item off my 'bucket list'.  I know this may sound strange, but  I have always wanted to fire a gun.  There is a long story behind it that I won't bore you with.

Thanks to a friend/co-worker, I got to today. He's a member of a skeet/trap shooting club and he took both Adam and I out there today. It was Cold, but the sun was shining and the grass was green.  Hubby opted to stay home and work in the yard. What a rush.  My arms hurt - strange position, muscles not used that way much, you know the drill.  I even hit 4 targets.

My friend made Adam's day too - he held the gun and let Adam pull the trigger.  I don't think Adam has stopped smiling.  It was a good lesson.  Adam realized just how dangerous and powerful a real gun is and that they should be treated with respect and caution.

    Friends are my SB* today.

    be safe,
    eb

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My SB* for today, actually this past weekend, is my wonderful husband, Dan.  On Friday night, Great Big Sea played at the Nokia Theater in NYC.  I have been looking forward to this show for months, because three of my friends from college, who had never seen GBS, were going, and also because it's a GBS show (duh!).

On Friday morning, Dan and his Mom made the heartbreaking decision to put his Dad into hospice care.  He had Alzheimer's and has been battling pneumonia since the middle of August.  He was past the point of medical treatment.

I told Dan many times during the course of the day that I didn't need to go to the show, and that I could definitely find people to take the tickets, but he insisted that we go.  The whole night he kept checking his phone to make sure he didn't miss any calls about Dad, but at the same time allowed me to have fun with friends, new and old, drink out of a flask, and behave in silly GBS concert fashion.  (This was the first concert that I ever noticed how many GBS songs refer to life and death...Process Man, Paddy Murphy, later Gideon Brown, STH...hope Dan wasn't paying as much attention to lyrics as I was!)

We had a great night, and on Sunday morning we got the call that Dan's Dad had passed away.  Jerry was a wonderful man, and he is certainly in a better place now.  I am thankful that I had the pleasure of knowing this true gentleman, and I am even more thankful that he raised such a considerate and loving son.
