Thankyou both!  *chinks glasses over the ocean*  Good to be here.

There was too much bustle getting Jarni down the slipway for tear-shedding, but I thought my chest would burst when they hauled up those red sails and glided out into the main channel and probably had wet eyes then.  Who ... me?

Now I'm off to order a new cd, there's a good bit of catching up to do Smile

Concord grapes!  Ginormous orange ball sunset!  Enough work over the weekend to get me out of immediate financial trouble, but not so much that I can't justify going to a cookout tomorrow!  And someone who wanted to seriously hurt me and a lot of people I care about made an awkward mistake and probably won't get the chance to do it.  So many blessings are about stuff that DOESN'T happen - I think of them as "safety blessings."

My SB* for the last week is Horatia.  She has been a most gracious and pleasant houseguest, and we are having a great time getting to know each other.  (And losing weight walking all over Halifax, as a bonus)  I will miss her when she's gone.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Whoa! Jaryd has grown into quite a handsome lad!!! The girls in my class would be all over him. LOL! He's gonna break some hearts. And Braydin looks quite the kindergartener. He's gonna do fine, Mom.

Almost forgot to type my SB*...my principal met with the 4th and 5th grade teachers today and told us that she was proud of the job we are doing and that she knows she can rely on us to do what's right for the kids even if it might not be what the school district is looking for.

And my second SB* - NO LAMAR IN MY CLASSROOM THIS YEAR! I was going to have him again,  but the principal took pity. I'll just have to deal with Sabre and Jalen from last year.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

My SB* is my new school and all my new co-workers. I was declared surplus from my former school and then landed a sweet job as the teacher librarian at one of the best schools in our board. After two days I can see why. I was asked to present at our staff meeting yesterday and the response has been wonderful. Got an email from the principal thanking me, two staff members came to see me to tell me how excited they are about my ideas. And the best part, we have an appreciation board in our staff room where people can write messages of thanks to each other. When I walked in today there was an anonymous message thanking me. They sure know how to make a girl feel welcome!

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

Congratulations on the new job Kristin- and what a great idea to have somewhere to write messages of thanks like that. And Anne- it's brilliant that your principal recognises how hard you work for the kids in your care. Yes

My SB is that although it is the start of september, I am not setting up my classroom, planning lessons or being lectured by a school management team that rarely remembers to say 'thank you'! Instead, I am sat here watching a DVD while my beautiful daughter is sleeping on my lap. Hopefully by the time I return to work next July I'll be a bit more motivated for teaching.

Re: Has 'Something Beautiful' happened to you today?

    mmmm Franks...!

Nina, welcome back.  What a wonderful experience that must have been!

Congrats Andi!  That is great news. (did that Karma thing actually work??!! lol)

I am finally getting into a good routine with my class after 4 weeks of school.  I have gotten to know the kids, their learning styles, their abilities, interests and needs.  At Open House last week, my class had the highest parent turn out in the school.

    At Grandparents' Day today, likewise!

The year hadn't started well.  Now it is starting to feel like a community.  The children are good kids, they have supportive famillies, and things are going well now.

And...my husband is over his most recent depressive episode - phew - The bi-polar roller coaster ride is over for the time being...he is being civil again.  He called me today at lunch to tell me he is "better" - unusual for him.

Thee aren't exactly beautiful things, but they are positives in a week that hasn't been exactly great.

    Helen
