You just can't lose... in Santa Cruz...

... as the boys sang in their "localized" little ditty!  What a great experience...  the always beautiful harmonies, the sing-alongs and shout-alongs, the jumping around... I got a kick out of Alan's ongoing fascination with those friggin' agile seals, and Séan's hilarious stories about Californians wanting to turn him on to medical marijuana birthday (this from a native Californian). And what can you say about Bob? He shines on every musical instrument ever invented on this planet (and probably several others). I have trouble keeping time  to a 4/4, so Kris' percussion skills boggle my mind. And Murray! That true, strong bass voice in songs like Old Brown's Daughter and Captain Kidd! I seriously hope they come back to Santa Cruz, the sooner the better... the word is out now, and next time folks'll be beatin' down the doors to get in.  BTW, I still miss the Professor, Darrell. nerd

I "discovered" GBS while channel-surfing after a job layoff several years ago, when I was very low... the very first song I heard was "Ordinary Day," and what an incredible lift the music gave me.  Now I've had another job layoff; my sister's family is also going through very hard times (as are so many people) in this friggin' economy. Well, she and I had been getting on each others' nerves from the strain... and we figured a good dose of GBS would help. By the time they got a few notes into Donkey Riding, we were already feeling better. Halfway into Ordinary Day we hugged and said, "We'll be alright, it's not so bad."  OK, that's kind of corny. But true, lest any of us forget the power of these guys' music! (mn)

Thank you, thank you, thank you Great Big Sea! flower

Great Review, though I'd have to remark on the boys' sheer punchiness on the 6th night of shows.  Much more talking and silliness than most GBS concerts I've been to.  Is Bob the 5th Beatle?  Followed nicely on Jeremy Fisher's engagement of the crowd with his rendition of "A Whole New World" from Alladin.  Only wish the Rio had been more than half-filled.  Thank goodness that venue didn't try to enforce a no standing rule, as Olympia, WA did.  I certainly hope some hardy souls were able to stand the boys to a few pints even though it was a school night.

Just a few pics from the Santa Cruz show - it was truly a great time and a lovely little theater.  The seal banter had me in stitches!  Anyhow, the link is *here*...  enjoy!

As a side note, MC - is the picture in your avatar your actual license plate number?  If so, I was the one that you pointed it out to outside of the theater - nice to meet you!!  Wink

Hi Kim!  Those are GREAT pictures!!! Yes  Thanks for being so nice when I hollered, "Look at my license plate!" Angel  Just had the urge to share it with the first unsuspecting person who walked by...  it was nice to meet you too...  all the way from Chicago?  Wow!

It was also nice talking with the gal in line about the "Back Stage" sign next door to the Rio, which looked like it said "Back Stove"... are you here on the OKP?
