Anyone Keep Kosher that wouldn't mind answering a question?

We have a party coming up at work later this week and one of the guys that I know will be there keeps Kosher. I wanted to make sure that things like Toll House Cookies and Baked Ziti won't violate the rules for him.  If they will can you suggest something that I could make that he could eat?

    Thanks ever so much!

Baked Ziti is fine as long as there's no meat. Look for the Kashrut (kosher symbol) on things that you use. The kosher foods scetion of your grocery store is a good place to start. Matzo ball soup is amazing and everyone loves it, and it's super easy if you want a tradional Jewish dish.

Start with chicken soup (however you like making it)  and add matzo balls about fifteen mins before its done. To make the matzo balls: mix one egg and one tablespoon of oil to each cup of matzo meal. (each cup makes about three good sized balls) Cover the bowl and put in the fridge for 15-30 mins.  Then form into balls and add to the boiling soup. They will inflate and should be easy to cut with a spoon or fork when done. Keep an eye on them so they don't get overdone and fall apart.

Hope that answers your question Andi! If you or anyone else wants more info about Jewish food or cluture feel free to PM or email me!

Contrary to other answers on your question, I have to say that your guest would most probably be disappoint, but would commend you for your effort.

Any food prepared in a non-kosher utensil would make that food non-kosher.  Having said that, there are some guidelines you might follow:

The easiest way around your problem is to serve a cold salad, if possible on a glass dish or better yet, not being too fancy on paper plates with good quality plastic utensils.

Hard boiled eggs still in the shell are ok. served with a cold salad.  Cans of tuna fish or salmon, but NO Shell fish.

You might look for prepared products bearing labels that indicate the product is kosher, and better still, that the product is micro-wave able.

If you need more guidance, please repost and I will attempt to clarify any questions you  may have.

    Good luck.
