How to make the best Mint Julep

Given Sean's apparent predeliction for the mint julep, I thought I would post my family's recipe here.

    What you need:

A tumbler or julep cup, preferably silver

    Lots of crushed ice

QUALITY Bourbon whiskey, like Makers Mark, Bulleit, Basil Hayden

    Fresh mint

Simple syrup (1 cup sugar to 2 cups water, simmered and chilled)

Straw cut to within 1 1/2 inches of lip of tumbler

Place straw and sprig of mint in tumbler, on opposite sides. Fill with crushed ice. Add 1 jigger of bourbon. Top with simple syrup.  DO NOT STIR. I repeat...DO NOT STIR.

Gently crush the mint, and when you sip from the straw, from the bottom of the tumbler, inhale the fresh mint aroma. Enjoy!!
