    Bloomington IL -- Oct 2nd

Just thought I'd start a thread. Since I'm getting crazy excited about next week's show. Who's going out there? Where are you sitting? What are you most excited about?

We're up front in row BBB (second row from the stage!) in seats 112-114. Most exciting thing about this show is that it will be the first for my 5 year old. Who loves GBS. Obviously. Almost exactly 12 years after my first show in Vancouver, way back in 1997 with some of my original GBS loving pals. Its been an interesting journey from there to here, with lots of GBS shows along the way (in places as varied as LA and St Johns, Baltimore and Indianapolis). Can't wait to see them next week!!!

Thanks for starting the thread Nicola!  My family and I will be in row 2 as well, on the right, facing stage.  My sister and I discovered GBS only a couple of years ago but they have become our favorite band.  Saw them in Chicago at HOB in March, what a blast, my heel still hurts from stomping.  Our only disappointment at that gig is that they did not play Straight to Hell, and I fear that given our conservative nature here, they might withhold it from us again.  Sure hope not!  TAKE US TO HELL BOYS!

We can hardly wait, and plan to eat Newfie that day to get ready for the show: codcakes and cream, figgy duff, and maybe even fish and brewis!  Plain food to keep ourselves fit!

Re: Bloomington IL -- Oct 2nd

We couldn't do the Chicago show because of the age restrictions. Same with last year's Indy show. We didn't bother trying for Celtic Fest because of the insanity (and crappy weather), and the last time that they were in St Louis, we were out of town! So, finally, we're able to take our son to a GBS show. I actually took my husband to a GBS show in Baltimore on our second date. It was a test of his worthiness  ;-)

Are you bringing any young ones along for the ride? I wonder how many kiddos will be there. We're in the same row, so you'll know us by the bouncing 5 year old with the handsome blue ear muffs on his head. He keeps telling everybody that he's going to see GBS, but he won't "hear them too loud".

Excellent! Yay for Row BBB! I think that row AAA is actually a really short little row and then BBB kind of bends around. If I recall correctly from the diagram that I saw. So that actually we're in the "front row" where our seats are. I seriously cannot wait until Friday!

Hell yeah, bloomington show is gonna rock, this is my 3rd show and every one is more fun then the last, i beilive my seats are in the third or fourth row, but my friend has the tix. i want it to be friday, its going to be a fun show. also Nicola i hope your 5 year old enjoys the show, just keep an eye on the people around you, i know celtic fest and house of blues people were s-m-a-s-h-e-d,and several occasions i nearly got booze spilled on me. but any way i cant wait for this show, especially since my only gbs shirt got ripped and i need a new one

Re: Bloomington IL -- Oct 2nd

That reminds me, since I haven't been to a show in a number of years (and they didn't used to have much for sale), do they take credit cards for merchandise, or do I need to have plenty of cash on hand?

And thanks for the crowd warnings. I actually got pretty badly banged up at my first ever GBS show in Vancouver oh so many years ago. I'm hoping that since this is assigned seating and a theater venue (rather than a bar or club), we'll be good. We'd been waiting for just the right opportunity to take our son and this seemed to be it. Fingers crossed!

Yes, they can usually take credit cards.

I'm not worried about rowdiness in a reserved seating theatre - should be a good venue for you to bring the kids.

My son woke up this morning and rushed out of his bedroom, all sleepy eyed, to excitedly tell me, "You know what tomorrow is? Remember? Tomorrow is the Big Sea!!!". One more day, only one more day  :-)

Re: Bloomington IL -- Oct 2nd

There is a Row AAA and I have four tickets in that row. Awesome seats!!! Unfortunately, due to some total crap circumstances involving my in-laws (don't get me started), I won't be there to use them. Sad Major bummer, esp since I bought them in May. So my friend and GBS show-newbie will be enjoying the view from the front row without me, but I hope it will be an awesome show nonetheless. (and don't feel too sorry for me as I will be in the third row on Saturday night in Glen Ellyn! LOL)  Have fun everyone!

    Cheers!

    Cheers!

So, guys -- BEST CONCERT EVER! Right? I've seen them so many times, but that was by far the very best show I've attended. Hands down. And I LOVED the tiny crowd. Such a personal experience. The 5 year old fell asleep around 9:30pm, on the seats, literally right in front of the band. Goofy. I was so sad last night when we got home, happy and sad. I've got lots of photos. Will post in the show reviews section once I get them sorted and up on the web. Nice to meet some friendly faces last night!

Re: Bloomington IL -- Oct 2nd

This was my first GBS show (though I've been a fan for over ten years!  I've just always been thwarted from attending when they play anywhere near me!) and I had a great time! :)  I brought my mom, who is also a fan, and we were sitting pretty far back in the auditorium.  A lot of the people around us, sad to say, didn't seem to have known what to expect and were not pleased with being expected to stand so much--there was a lot of grumbling during the break, not about the music or the band but about the "rock atmosphere"... *rolls eyes*

BUT I really admired how great the band were at keeping the energy level up despite that, and those of us who were willing to get up and dance/clap really did have an amazing time.  I can't wait to see them again!  (And next time I'll buy my tickets early enough to be close to the stage with the more fun people... ;) )
