What a great way for the Lower Deck to celebrate its 35th anniversary with a performance by Great Big Sea! It was outside in the courtyard on a perfect September night:mild, dry and calm. We arrived about 9:15pm and got fairly close to the stage beers in hand. I heard that there were 800 tickets sold.
The crowd was mostly in their 20's but it ranged up to 50's. Not as wide a spectrum as usual given
a) a 10 pm start time
b) standing room only
c) outside
d) in a bar
Everyone was in good cheer and ready to sing (and drink!)
GBS came on at 10 pm and played until about 11:30 with two sets of encores. They clearly felt very much at home at the Lower Deck and did lots of reminiscing about earlier visits. Here's the setlist as I remember ( in random order)
Donkey Riding (they did start with this!)
Helmet Head
MariMac
Ferryland Sealer
General Taylor
England
John Barbour
Charlie Horse
Ordinary Day
Consequence Free
Old Black Rum(most requested song of the night!)
Excursion around the Bay
When I'm Up
When I am King
Captain Kidd
Straight to Hell
Love me Tonight
Fortune
Sea of no Cares(Living room version)
Scolding Wife
I'm a Rover
Let it Go
Rant N Roar(final song)
I may have forgotten one along the way.
So glad we got to experience this show!
