Re: King Alan: All About Alan Doyle

hmmm....my opinion on Alan's facial hairuh ....if he likes it then i have no objections. He's an amazing singer, and i hope he wont grow it so long that it muffles his voice, no, clearer is indubitably better.

this is the first major change he's done to his appearance so naturally i too am a bit iffy on how well it will suit him. o-well, we'll see.

Re: King Alan: All About Alan Doyle

I'm a bit iffy on the facial hair. I guess it's because I'm so used to seeing him without it. I'm undecided as to how I feel right now...but like I said, it's a bit odd to see.
If Great Big Sea had a soul, Its name would be Alan. Unfortunately, a degree in religious studies has evidently done little to prevent him from dealing with the devil... Either way, wherever he goes, I'll be right there behind him. -Sean McCann

so, as a new member here...i am deciding to bring the king alan thread back up....and i would like to post a picture i took the other night at the bowery. the quality is not great, the red lights make him look slightly devilish.......and i know there are many many much better pictures of him out there, this is the best one i got all night, or at least one of the best:

    (i hope it works!)

Put that together with a scary freaking photo BetRx took that night and suddenly the lyrics of "Straight to Hell" might be autobiographical!!  lol

Perhaps Betty could be persuaded to post it here?  You know the one I mean!!  Devil

Re: King Alan: All About Alan Doyle

first off....that skinamarinky dinky dink video is great lol or however you spell it!!!!

oooo possession...if we are gonna play that game....i have another of alan from that night looking pretty scary lol:

come on, tell me he doesnt look pretty damn rocker-ish with that deep reddish glow!? haha....and then i have this confused alan face: i dunno, i look at this one, and i can hear him saying...huh?

and then i got this angelic alan one, even if you cant see his face, i thought it looked kinda cool lol:

yeaaa so i was basically right in front of mr. doyle the whole night, so i got a few sean pictures, and one okay bob picture, even though i made many many attempts...one or two good murray pics, and i wasnt able to get one good picture of kris the whole night...even though i was only one person deep from the stage, the kid in front of me was of course like a foot and a half taller than me, and i couldnt get around his head quick enough for a good kris picture......so kris, i apologize...i tried and tried, and was just unsuccessful Sad  but those are some of the interesting alan pictures i got wooohoo!

Me too, on the Sean side!  Maybe we were standing next to each other?  The lights were brutal, so many of my pictures and videos came out strangly red.  I certainly ain't complaining.  Any night where I am standing less than 5 feet away from both Alan Doyle and Sean McCann is a good night in my book!

If you watch Anne in Philly's "General Taylor" on Youtube, you can see my hands holding my camera, especially when Sean does his heart stopping bend down insanely close to the audience thing.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bA2WWBHad1M

Paula, thanks for the links!  You can tell fatherhood has really kicked in for Mr. Doyle.  "The Lion King" and "Barney"!  They sang a little bit of Skinamarink in Lowell this summer too (I don't think this video is from the same show, I believe it was still bright out when they sang it) and I was so happy to be singing "I love you" to the b'ys without my husband glaring at me!  Big Smile

Re: King Alan: All About Alan Doyle

were u wearing a reddish shirt? and you were with a tall man wearing a bluish shirt (if that was you, i am assuming that was your husband?)  if so, i think there were a couple people between us, but i did say to myself during that song, when sean bent down, "OMG she is getting a really good video!" lol........yeaaa i made  a mistake, i was 3 people deep....there was a big kid in a white sweatshirt in front of me and then a woman in a wheelchair who was back a little front the stage in front of him that he was with.....so i was also kinda behind you and a couple people over....but yeaaaa if that was you thats cool! next time ill say hi! if that wasnt you, then im gonna feel pretty dumb after all this rambling about the woman in the reddish shirt! Hmm lol if you watch that video, when she pans over the audience when we are all singing, you can see the tall kid in white almost right in front of alan, i was right behind him (well probably back about a foot so i could get a better video). there are two people with a camera behind him actually, i am the one on the left....i took a video of that song too but since the kid was between sean and alan, i just kept going back and forth every like 10 seconds between the two sides of the stage lol....here a link to show what i mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06E9bFfZtko&feature=user  i also got a video of old brown's daughter but was having the same problem with the kids head.. i could see fine for myself just not a good spot for video...and sea of no cares, that one actually came out pretty okay...they are all there if u go to more from itznic32....this post ended up longer than it should have sorry.....

    back to alan talk :)

Yup, that's me!  On your video, you can see Sean on the screen of my camera!  I think my husband had on a bluish shirt, he was standing behind me, and GBSeaford was to my right (they are both about 6'3" -probably lots of people got video of the backs of their heads!)  I will try, again, to get my "General Taylor" on youtube.  I have had no success so far.  I might as well attempt "Old Brown's Daughter" too.  They were both so great.  What a show.

Re: King Alan: All About Alan Doyle

itznic32 great job on the pictures. I know for any of us Alan fans here, right in front of Mr. Doyle is where we're meant to be at a show.

I agree with you guys that Alan is embracing fatherhood well. I read his latest FTR, and when he mentioned the part about his little boy, I went 'AWWWWW'. He seems like he's prolly a GREAT Dad, and Henry is lucky to have him. Here's the quote I'm talking about, just in case you don't know:

"...and had some serious doubts that I’d get to see the little fella before his bed time for the third night in a row. It’s funny how that kind of simple thing matters so much when you’ve got a small kid.  Don’t want to miss a thing."

All I can say is 'Awwww!"

Paula, thanks for adding the Skinamarinky Dinky Dink Video, that is just tooooo cute for words!!!

Yeesh, demonic!Alan is a bit scary. If GBS ever record this children's album as people think they should, that should definitely be on it. :-) Just nothing TOO sappy!
