I spotted this on a Vancouver radio station's website.

Edited to add...Sean's not mentioned in this article but according to the Juno site he is playing as well.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Former NHL hockey players and some of Canada's most popular musicians will come together March 27th for the 6th Annual Juno Cup at UBC's Thunderbird Arena.  It's a celebrity hockey game during JUNO week in Vancouver.  The line-up for the big game was announced this morning by Blue Rodeo's Jim Cuddy and former Vancouver Canuck Cliff Ronning.

Cuddy, a 12-time JUNO winner, will have an all-star lineup, including Sarah McLachlan, Aaron Pritchett, Tyler Stewart of Barenaked Ladies, and Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea.  The roster of former NHL players includes Bob Probert, Russ Courtnall, Paul Coffey and Dave Babych.

Cuddy says it's all for fun, and some of the 'Rockers' can play very well, but others....could find it a challenge.  "I remember one of the first years we played in Calgary, Jamie Macoun said 'It's very dangerous out there, you have to be careful not to step on anyone'.  We have some people who don't know the rules of the game.  We're trying to encourage more women, and this year Sarah McLachlan is coming out."

The game is for a good cause, raising money for 'MusiCounts', Canada's music education charity.  The money will be directed to schools in B.C. over the next year.  Previous Juno Cup games have raised more than $700,000 dollars for schools across the country.

    Hey Molly!!!!

Good to see you! I attended one of those games in 2004 when they were in Cape Breton. Wat a hoot! No matter who is plying, you are bound to be entertained.

I don't think it's televised, although I would love to watch it too.

    Re: Juno Cup

Sad It's too bad they won't televise a 'fun' game of hockey.  I really can't watch the NHL stuff.  I watched the all-stars game and I like Olympic hockey, where they just play the game.  It's a beautiful thing.

Yeah it sucks that they won't televise it. I love all hockey, NHL included, so I don't have your problem. Hmm, there should be some pics of Alan and Sean playing hockey around here somewhere....

    Re: Juno Cup

So, the Juno Cup was a little disappointing as Alan and Sean didn't play. (Sean was too sick, I think, and Alan couldn't play because he needed to sign a contract for Robinhood)

But Alan did coach and he sang 'Oh Canada'

    Re: Juno Cup

Sarah McLachlan didn't play either! It was rather disappointing, especially for my friend who didn't get to go to Victoria last night and so was looking forward to seeing the boys play hockey at least. I totally understand Sean not playing, it's far more important for him to rest for Sunday, but Alan was there the whole time, why couldn't he play?

Actually I am not surprised that Alan didn’t play.  I was more shocked that he was going to play.  There are clauses in movie contracts that you have to refrain from some physical activities to avoid injury so you do not delay taping etc.  Of course this is all speculation on my part.

    Re: Juno Cup

Alan couldn't play because of potential for injury. If he were to be injured in any way, the producers would have to replace him, I doubt they would hold back production for him to heal, this would probably delay the start of production especially given how much time he's already put in preparing and that would cost money.

Ha ha, even if the movie thing could be fun, it seems to be sucking a lot of Juno fun. :)

    Re: Juno Cup

Ok, that makes a lot more sense. Well, the Juno cup was still fun, the rockers won by one point! And my friend and I snuck over to behind where the players were sitting and got Alan to give us his autograph :) I told him it was a great show in victoria and he said "It was fun, eh?" which made me very happy. He did a great job with the anthem too, I have a video of that that I will have to upload later.
