Since I've heard Alan sing about 51 to 49 it has really peaked my curiosity about all the goings on when this  post WWII vote took place. I'd like to read about the issues that were bought up in favour and against. I've tried to find a book about it at the library but only came up with a fictional tale of Mr. Smallwood (who is mentioned in Belong ) and a woman with an acerbic tongue. Any suggestions ?

That fictionalized biography of Smallwood, The Colony of Unrequited... Holy hand grenades, unrequited nothing!  It just turned up here for $5.53 US!  Grab it - it's a ripping read, and a worthy introduction to one of the best authors currently writing!

51 to 49 seems to be a theme for Canada. I originally thought that the 51 to 49 was about the results of the 1995 Quebec Referendum  where staying with Canada just squeaked through at 51% also.
