Shenandoah Nat'l Park area of Virginia?

Planning a short vacation in August, drive along the Skyline Drive, see the sights, visit the caverns.  I've only driven straight through the area before on I-81.  Anyone have suggestions on things to see besides the Drive and caverns?  Hiking should be to a minimum.

You might be there right around apple harvest time...visit the orchards. In Staunton you can visit one of the presidental birthplaces ( I forget which president!) In Charlottesville theres Monticello, and outside of Gordonsville is James Madison's home. Many wineries in the area, and antique shops too!

Looking for more outdoor things waterfalls, grottos, umm, I don't know that kind of stuff. You've seen one presidential birthplace, you've seen them all!  Saw Monticello when I was a kid.

If you are going as far north as Big Meadows you should stop. It is gentle walking and if you hit it at dusk there are hundreds of deer. Have a great time!

Big Meadows is on the list!

We'll be starting at the north end, probably only going as far as the entrance down to Harrisonburg.
