Wow, Frosty ... this HD thing is really amazing ... watched it fullscreen! Uploading those big files must take ages! What must I say/do to convince you, to upload ALL your grand video work there????

btw ... I really like your "Guinness" performance ... Yesbeermug

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

    Hi Christina,

Yes !, the HD is quite nice eh ! , if you have a computer that is new enough to support the full screen, it's amazing, even not going to full screen, still shows you an amazing quality. ( if anyone sees the video as choppy, after it has 100% loaded, then it's your computer, there's an amazing amount of data in those videos )

I tried uploading another snippit of Great Big Sea yesterday, several times in fact ( a video just over 100 megs ) and it is having problems uploading, I got up to the 70% mark, , and another time up to 81% before it timed out, and stopped. Most uploads of 100 megs or so can take 6-7 hours, (yes, on a high speed connection ) so it's best to do it on a computer you aren't using for anything else.  - Vimeo has so many filmmakers now that they are experiencing very long upload times, and then after your video uploads, it then needs to get re-encoded to their HD specs, and you can then be in a lineup for 18 hours at times ( this is just to get it encoded in HD ) ( everyone uploads in HD, but their servers then re-encode it once again to fit their specs ) It's a long process.  Check back there from time to time, and hopefully you'll see some new ones.

Ah my Guinness performance LOL, thanks Big Smile

Hm .. that's exactly what I thought. Oops, 7 hours for 100 MB - that's tough. Still considering that the computer does this work kind of alone, I well understand that you don't fancy checking the upload after five hours to find out that it didn't work again ... sad2 ... and this only for sharing the clips. Of course I keep the hope, that you don't give up completely ... looks really really great on my 21" widescreen ... big smiles

Well, your smaller videos on YouTube are a delight anyways ... did I say "thanks" for that already ... winked  ??

    Take care ... Christina

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

Yah, it's rather depressing.  I started an upload this morning, at 9:21 am, just over 100 megs, and I cancelled it at 1:43 pm ( so about 1/2 an hour ago ) it was only up to 38%. Crying  The other thing it does also, is totally takes over your computer, it uses up a lot of memory for some reason, so you can't do anything else ( even open email ) it will just freeze the computer ( I don't know why that happens )

Oh well, I'm going to try upping smaller vids, and see how that goes.  I have a good one of Sean with his can of Guiness..... did a very short snippit of that.

Alan starts playing a new song, and all of sudden looks over, and Sean is cracking open a new can of Guinness ! .... oh man was that funny !

That clip should be up later today, it's only 10 megs long, but very short.  21"-24" monitors are nice aren't they, I gave away my analog monitors, including a 21", still in super condition, but it wasn't wide screen, and weight about 75 lbs, and took up a lot of one of my computer desks.

    And you're welcome :-)

And just to keep this on topic ............. who's excited about the new album coming out eh ? ! shades

Edit: Darn ! .... this past Sat. night, Great Big Sea was singing our national anthem in Montreal.... crap... I knew they were going to do it, and forgot to digitize it.

    Did anyone record it  ?

Edit 2: Phew, the website was down for a good hour, for a second I thought the whole forum database was corrupt !

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

Concerning Edit 2: WHEN did that happen? I was just away for an hour (practicing my version of "Ordinary Day" on the guitar - uh that was loud - sorry neighbors ... embarrased) ... and came back to find the site properly working. Maybe the problem was on your computer (exhausted from all this painful useless uploading work)? How about a restart ... winked?

Yeah, I know what you mean ... I'm a Mac user and used to have one of these stylish turquoise but huge and heavy 21" screens ... I was pretty surprised how big my desk was after I gave it away ...

Excited about the new album? Are you kidding? I'm excited since - I don't know - August? Expecting it for kinda around Xmas ... and know it's announced for J-U-N-E ... confused2

Well - we seem to know one third of it already, don't we? I'm curious to hear the studio versions - especially from "Tonight". Grand song I suppose - I was touched from what Alan said about it on the Songwriters Panel ...

So for now I will be patient and look forward to your Sean&his-stout-can vid ...

    Cheers ... Christina

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

I've uploaded a nice HD version of Sean sipping his "vitamin G" but it will only start being encoded
    in 230 mins ( that's about 5.3 hour ! )  boo hoo.

While you wait, I've uploaded a UToobie version here:

Below is the message that greets you after you upload HD content, when it's ready, you can watch Sean in HD Smile

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

Goodness Frosty - you're really persevering! At least you can enjoy something healthy like vitamin G meanwhile!

I can't ... I just entered office (it's around 9 am where I live) and I'm about to start my working day. Our company firewall gives us no access to YouTube ... AND ... there is no "G" in the fridge.

So: ten more hours to go before I can have a beer and find sweet Sean bantering about his special medicine in HD

    winked

Caitlyn - I absolutely agree on the "Walk on the Moon" ... very emotional.

I was really moved to tears when I got the chance to see it performed on stage last summer. I think it was the whole situation ... finally getting the chance to go to a GBS concert after beeing fan for about 6 years and then listening to a new song that hadn't been recorded, yet.

I'm curious if the recorded version can bring back this moment ... or even top it?

    Cheers ... Christina

Re: Ships and Dip cruise - just amazing !

right. So I've finally watched the snippet of Alan noticing my sign uninterrupted, and I realized he said he "felt the love" and Sean said "it's a spiritual thing" and then Alan says "no, it's dirty"

just.  !!!!!. Yeah, that about sums it up.
