Would you please look at moving the birthday list to the top of the page -- most folks never scroll down far enough to see them at the bottom (or, don't even know they are there). Perhaps a scroll run between the "Signed in as" line and the "GreatBigSea.com" line? Carol

I'm sorry... putting in my 2c. I prefer this list at the bottom. Especially since it has SOOO many names on it, many of which are people who have never even posted. People who want to see the list know they need to scroll down. If you do decide to move it to the top, could you please add the option to NOT view it in preferences? Or have it as a link to be viewed seperately? Thank you. Feel free to give back change on my 2c...

(This might be a dumb suggestion, but...) Maybe it could kind of go on the side somewhere, so that it's not in the way but you don't have to scroll all the way to see it... I agree that it's hard to see because people don't scroll all the way down, though that's where the B-day list usually is on a message board. Is there no way to scrape those people off the list who might be GBS.com members but who don't actively engage in online GBS-related activities? Probably not...

The problem is the single sign-on environment. You are a member of this community if you make a purchase at the store. Since the default setting for the birthday is ON, we have all these people listed in the birthdays that have never even looked at the OKP. My suggestion: Change the default setting for birthdays to OFF and send out a notice, either in the newsletter or in the "From the Hosts" section, advising members to activate the setting if they would like their birthday publicised. And I still prefer the listing at the bottom of the page. It's consistent with other boards and doesn't force the user to needless scrolling. I have to scroll enough in here already, thank you.

I am double-checking with our tech team, but I do not think there is a way to filter the birthday list to only include active board members. Therefore, the birthday list will include people who are not on the boards. Is this still something that people want? -nico

Nicopop Since you're asking, I personally like the birthdays feature, no matter where it is, or who is on it, tho most days it's people I've never heard of! But it's great on those days when I see someone I recognize, and my own birthday will be there next month! I'd enjoy a 'happy birthday' from my friends here without having to shamelessly tell everyone 'hey today's my birthday'!
Some people shine like a star in the first moment. Others keep their light hidden until they are ready to show us.

I think Golden Ager was asking to move the birthday list to the top of page as opposed to where it is on the bottom. I think we'll definitely be keeping the birthday list, but question is whether or not enough people want to move them. I like the birthday list and personally prefer it at the bottom. What do you guys think? -Nico

I think there should be an opt out of it ( along with several other "features" on this board) and that there should be a way NOT to see it. If it has to be visable to all, I'd rather it be on the bottom, that way the folks who want to see it can find it yet those who don't don't have to be forced into it.

*snorts @ Tina* *L* Just for reference, I don't find the birthday list offensive. I just object to it being at the top of the screen. Once you've seen it, you've seen it so why have to scroll past it every time you load the page? I also don't think it's practical at this point since it lists people who NEVER come in here and who have no idea it's being listed. On top of that the other day there was a person whose login was their email address. I doubt that person realizes that their email address was posted on this message board. And while I'd like to think that noone visiting the OKP would spam a random email account like that, that doesn't preclude BOT programs from snatching it up and not only spamming it, but spamming FROM it. And that's not even touching on the people who do not celebrate birthdays as a religious preference or for any other reason and to them, that WOULD be offensive.
