    SEATTLE!

    I am DEAD...

... but I have died a happy woman. Oh my, the wonderfulness of tonight's show. There will be a full report tomorrow when my brain has come back online, ladies and gentlemen, but I am too fried to post it tonight. Suffice to say that the B'ys once again pulled off a hell of a show.

Highlights of the show: KICKASS renditions of "River Driver", "Old Brown's Daughter", and "General Taylor". (We were NOT expecting "General Taylor", but the audience spontaneously started singing it between sets, so I'm wondering if that convinced the B'ys to do it in the second set!) Alan and Séan in absolute FABULOUS banter form. Bob in fine vocal form. Kris and Murray doing hijinx behind the other B'ys. And just before "Old Black Rum" during the encore, an impromptu ditty that they must have thrown together in the last two days, all about how they're "really glad to be in Seattle, NO REALLY, we're really glad to be alive". Hee! And Alan joked early in the show about how it had been two whole days without any near-death experiences. It was very fine to see them in high spirits and playing with so much verve for us.

ESPECIALLY given that Alan has now posted his account of what happened with the bus incident on the From the Road page. Reading that tonight, I am doubly happy and grateful that they came and played with us with all their hearts and with all their strength.

More in great detail tomorrow! I will be posting a very long writeup on my journal and will post a link to the concert-specific stuff here. Off to bed! ^_^

Solid set...'cept there was some woman in a multicolored hat typing on a Blackberry throughout the entire show..Hmmm..the glow was a bit distracting even at 3 rows behind her. Typing typing and typing...Otherwise enjoyable.

Well, that was me. Sorry it distracted you! This makes me realize I'll need to turn down the screen strength in the future and also hold it lower down so it'll be out of people's lines of sight. For the record, it wasn't a Blackberry, it was an iPaq. But! Point taken.

(And I was using it to try to write down the set list and the various things I wanted to remember about the concert. I've tried paper and pen, but that didn't work out just because I couldn't see what I was writing. But I can turn down the screen strength on the device. I'll do that in the future.)

    Re: SEATTLE!

It was a marvelous show! They joked about having a night off on Sunday -- and I can appreciate that. I'm tired after only three shows in three nights -- they must be beat.

The fun they are having on the stage feeds the audience -- and the fun the audience is having feeds the band.

We had dinner at Kells, and Irish Pub less than 2 blocks away from the Moore Theatre (a beautiful old lady who desperately needs a corporate sponsor to refurbish her to her glory days) and there were other GBS fans at Kells while we were there.

The concerts are a wonderful mix of both old and new songs -- they've been alternating horse songs - Charlie one night and Kit the next -- but Old Black Rum, Paddy Murphy, Rover, Beat the Drum and Run Away every night.

If you can get to a live show on this tour, you owe it to yourself to do so, just to get to watch Sean interact with his Mermaid! Just to watch Bob and Chris duel with the fiddle and the accordion. Just to hear the difference having a voice sing bass (Murray's) makes to so many of the songs. Just to hear Old Brown's Daughter.

Alan REALLY is glad to be alive. They all are, and it shows in every song.

Find a ticket! Go to a show!

Anna, we missed you (Alex, Lilly Janeill and I)!
One of our group got a setlist, and it origianlly had Feel It Turn, but they changed it up for General Taylor after they surely heard the audience at at the intermission. Did you see Danny in the wings step out and look out ot he crowd, laugh and then go back stage.....I think it was decidedly a deliberate change due our rendition...

We also got Everything Shines, instead of Penelope last night; a welcome change!

Carlie was there, not Kitty ...but since I haven't posted on Victoria, yet, I'll add that Kitty was in Victoria, Charlie came to Vancouver!

Other than that, the set was pretty "standard" for this tour so far. One of us will post the list when we get a chance, but right now we are about to head off to the airport so I can return to my life this evening!!!!

Ahhh, but I still have Denver to look forward to a week from tonight. The slow let down is a GOOD THING!!!!!

I took some great photos and some very sweet video clips which I will share soon.

The show was the most high-energy of the three I've had the pleasure of seeing this weekend! Spirits were high.

Aww, bugger, sorry I missed you guys! One OKP person did come up to me after the show, while I was in the swag line to see if they had any more shirts of the style I wanted, and he asked, "Are you Anna the Piper?" (If you're reading this, HI DOUG!)

And really, the whole spontaneous "General Taylor" warmed my heart. I saw the guy who'd triggered it off, an older gent farther back in the center section of the main floor. ^_^ It was really one of those moments that make LOVE being in this fandom.

Hi Andy, Yes I'm reading this. It was a great show. The story of the Mermaid from Sean had to be one of my highlights. plus being front row when they did Old Brown's daughter was awesome. If anyone needs pictures I do have some excellent ones from my seat. Or if you have a web sight you want them submitted too, I can do that as well.

Ooooooooo. I'd love to see your pics, and while my store of GBS concert pics is not large, I do have a tiny archive on my own page. My GBS pics currently live here. I don't add new pics to it often, just because I don't have my own camera, but if you're interested in putting pics there I'll be happy to work something out with you. Smile

    Re: SEATTLE!

Show was awesome. Drove down from Vancouver with a couple of friends to see it. One of them being the one who introduced me to them.

Didn't realize how much my voice had been going untill I yelled that I loved Alan.. and it didn't sound like me.

    Re: SEATTLE!

The Seattle show was my third time seeing the band and they did not disappoint! Our seats in the balcony rather muddied the vocals but the energy and humour and the brilliant music came shining through! I brought along my man who had never heard the band and he wants to borrow my CDs now--so he can understand the lyrics that were completely lost to us except on the acappella-ish numbers!

I'm a mega-huge Beatles fan, but after last night's show I have a new motto:

"Alan Doyle--he's the new Paul McCartney".

I think I need to create that on a shirt...

    Re: SEATTLE!

The Seattle show was indeed great... EXCEPT that the audio was horrendous. Specifically, the vocals on the louder pieces (e.g. Consequence Free, Mari Mac) were completely lost and/or drowned out. Very disappointing, esp. to the third (quarter? fifth?) of the audience who didn't already know all the words.

I'm not sure if this was due to problems with the band's sound system, the acoustics of the theatre itself, or the fact that I was up in the balcony..?
