Louisville, KY October 7th, 2009
It's the 8th of october and i feel like time has stood still for me. The 7th shall live in my heart and mind as a moving, beautiful, fun and energetic night. The show was perfect in all ways shapes and forms. The only thing that really hit me hard was the chairs. I think that in the rock and roll world, chairs kill the scene says I. Aside of that, the friendly and humorous vibe that pulsed through the air filled the room with a comfortable setting that allowed everyone who was at the show to have a fabulous time. It was fantastic seeing everyone up out of the seats by the end of venue. Not only that, it was an amazing honor to be among the kings court when he unleashed one of the new songs that could possibly be on the next record (finger crossed) [which, by the way, Pictures and a video of Alans song can be found on my myspace www.myspace.com/karra , all the albums are named and can be found easily :D, if you'd like me to upload them someplace else than please let me know haha] After the show, as we all headed out towards the lobby, a wonderful sing along of "General Taylor" was started and the entire lobby, full of Great Big Veterans (as well as some newbies like my Mum and my brothers grilfriend) raised their voices in song. It was a great treat and, like many have said, a GREAT way to end the night! I hope all of you fellow concert goers were able to experience the show much like i did. Smiling along with the boys, taking photos, filling my soul with the music that captivates every aspect of my being is an experience that never loses it's luster. Hope you all had a safe trip back home (especially all you Canadian folk that made the trip this way, as well as a few of you far northeners) and i wish the boys more successful shows in the gigs to come and a safe way through. Enjoy Enjoy Enjoy My Friends Karra

Re: Louisville, KY October 7th, 2009
Another amazing show! We missed the first 3 songs because we were stuck in a traffic jam on I-71. The 1.5 hour drive from Cincinnati took over 3 hours last night. I'm trying to convince my husband that we need to fly to New York this weekend to see another show, just to make up for the songs we missed.
"Dream Out Loud" is fantastic. I feel lucky to have been present at its public debut. Can't wait for the next CD!

Re: Louisville, KY October 7th, 2009
It was a wonderful show and I have mixed emotions about wanting back at this venue again. The sound was fanstastic - much better than Headliners, Phoenix Hill & Jillians were they'e played in the past. Soooooo much better than all those venues - and the spouse & I tried to think of anywhere we'd been that would sound equally as good to no avail. But man, it took a while to get people to stand up & get into the vertical movement. I'm guessing by the break 50% of the audience was getting up and by the last song before the encore series most everyone was on their feet clapping, but sitting at a GBS concert - well it just felt, wrong (illegal?!?!)! Anyway - sitting would be my biggest gripe about the venue.
MaddyFromCincinnati - I'll totally back you, since you were screwed out of part of the concert it's pretty much a given that you should head to New York to catch the show! PaulaPeep - huge thanks for find ing the link to Alan's new song. Someone was quick to download (thank you, thank you!!), hopefully other songs from the night will make it on youtube! Seriously for those not there - this was a night that should have been recorded, the sound was that pristine! ~ and last, but not least, YourFriendKuz thanks for the warm welcome in the other thread! And for starting this thread about the Louisville Show, and for posting the link to your recording of Alan's new song!

Re: Louisville, KY October 7th, 2009
Exactly how I felt after the Bloomington show on Friday. It literally took into the beginning part of this week to "get it out of my system". I was so melancholy all weekend. That music really gets into your soul. We had exactly the same experience with the chairs. These theater venues are fantastic in that the sound quality is superb and the surroundings are lovely. Plus, no longer being a pushy college kid (and now having my own 5 year old to consider), it is wonderful to have an assigned seat. Especially when its right up front (thank you gods of the presale!). However, you get a big portion of the crowd who came to SIT and LISTEN to a band that they don't know and it causes problems for those of us who are there to be vertical! Because, generally, we end up standing and dancing in front of the sitters. Who are none to happy about it. Apparently there were some people who were forced to sit down at our show because of the angry masses behind them. We were right up front though, the front three rows were sort of separate from the rest of the auditorium, and luckily were not asked to sit -- there would have been mutiny! Thanks for a great Louisville recap. Sounds perfect.

Re: Louisville, KY October 7th, 2009
I am with you on being dissapointed that the crowd sat through half of the show! I felt like it robbed half of the concert experience. I tried to stand up during song 2 hoping people would follow...it did not happen and I just felt like a butt. It was a little different than any of their shows I have ever seen before. I also agree that the sound was terrific. The singing after the show was also a great way to end the evening. I hope the boys will be coming to Colorado this summer...and that I will see Company of Fools in my next show. I have been missing that song.

Re: Louisville, KY October 7th, 2009
While I was completely envious of those of you who sat near the stage, the Bomhard's apron is best left empty. Everyone who wanted to sit could have, and those who wanted could have danced on the apron without impeding the view of the sitters. The Bomhard is so steep that I get vertigo just getting to my seat, no way I'm going to dance in the aisles (and I certainly wanted to!). It was my first GBS show but certainly not my last! It was an amazing show, the guys were uproariously funny (Ohio River and the big bat). I found it humorous that the last concert I went to was Def Leppard and they seemed to have a great time with "Kentucky Woman".

Re: Louisville, KY October 7th, 2009
I apologize to all the folks who were sitting and couldn't see due to my horrible flailing haha. But I hope your first show was great for you Chamere! Kentucky Woman was AMAZINGLY funny and, in all honesty, I had no clue what Alan was talking about when he said bat. I thought he meant the team "the Louisville Bats" haha. Go being a local Kentuckian haha..gah!

Another great Great Big Sea concert in the books.. Visited Louisville Kentucky from Toronto Canada, and it was well worth the trip..the band was great, the people were great and the city was great.. After the concert we ran into them at a local bar across from the theater and had a drink with the boys, which was absolutely amazing...Just Alan, Murray and Kris were there and they were great..got lots of pics and we couldn't be happier :) Cant wait for the next one.

Re: Louisville, KY October 7th, 2009
A few things stick out in my mind about the Louisville show. The concert was held in the Kentucky Arts Center in downtown Louisville. The venue was beautiful, and the sound was absolutely fantastic. The seating was extremely steep, and there was an area down front with a few tables. I was sitting in the second row center, directly in front of Alan and Sean. They were definitely the best seats I’ve had at a GBS show. When I first walked in the theater, I had one of those “oh no” moments, as everyone around me was dressed in suits, ties and dresses, and I was afraid that between that and the fact that the venue was seated, it was going to be a quiet, “listen only” kinda crowd. And, for the first couple of songs, that certainly seemed to be the case. Donkey Riding, which opened the show, failed to get anyone out of their seats, and in fact, there wasn’t even much clapping along with the song. I felt a strong desire to take a collective pulse—I thought perhaps Louisville had died or something. But, in true GBS fashion, by about the third song, the band managed to get people up and moving. Fortunately, the seating was so steep that those of us who did stand up and dance during the show didn’t seem to be bothering those behind us too much—at least, I didn’t hear any complaints. And the volunteer ushers, who were pretty diligent in making sure that no one used the flash on their cameras, didn’t ask anyone to sit down, which was nice. The band played two sets—I think Alan said later that it was around 30 songs or something—and they really seemed to be enjoying themselves. Sean and Alan were joking around a lot, and the whole band seemed very relaxed and comfortable. There were a few slightly off-color jokes about horses and huge bats downtown (the Louisville Slugger bat), and a confession by Alan that he had never had a mint julep. There was also a bit of silliness involving the song “Kentucky Woman” by Sean, with a few U2 covers thrown in for good measure. Alan was on tap for the solo that night, and he premiered one of the new songs called Dream Out Loud, which I thought was absolutely beautiful. I really hope it makes the cut for the new album—I can’t wait to hear what it sounds like fully fleshed out by the rest of the band. The next memorable thing that happened was actually after the show. As I came down to the lobby, a group of guys standing near the ticket booth started singing General Taylor. As the lobby swelled with people, the voices started joining in, and pretty soon, most everyone in the lobby was singing along. I noticed some of the Kentucky Center staff watching, with bemused expressions on their faces at the impromptu concert. It was a really neat moment. Glen was in the lobby, selling the merchandise. I hope he mentioned it to the band. I’d like to think that they’d be pleased. After the show, a couple of gals who were sitting next to me, Beth and Nicole, and I headed to the bus to try to get a picture or two. After a few minutes standing around with some guys from Canada, we heard that some of the fellas had already headed over to a little Mexican place across the street. So, we wandered over and sure enough, Alan, Murray and Kris were sitting at the bar. Alan and Murray were drinking human head-sized margaritas, and Kris was drinking something a bit more conservative, I believe. We got some pictures with them, and then Beth, Nicole and I stuck around until their bus had to leave at midnight. They are truly the greatest guys--funny, smart, generous, and let's face it--pretty darn easy on the eyes. All in all, it was a fantastic evening!
